[cat chat] ok seriously

Postby bacta » June 29th 2004 11:00 pm

my cat is still bringing various dead animals into my bedroom...

besides the obvious don't let her in my bedroom, answer, is there anyway that I can like train this habbit out of her? or do I really have to check her at the door/window for animals?

help.

well really if you think about it, it shows how smart and agile she is. seriously, the cat will be in my room, leave, and 10 minutes later come back with a mouse.

I dont doubt her mad hunting skills or her intelligence, I just think she's a huge bitch and does it to piss me off.

well that's the weird thing. she only eats the animals when I'm not around for her to give them to me.

like I said, stupid bitch.

She's bringing you the animals because she wants to show off to you. It's a compliment in a twisted kind of way.

Is she indoor/outdoor, or is there a mouse problem in your house? One way to limit her hunting is to keep her indoors (though get ready for some meowing during the transition phase) and just not giver her access to things to kill.

Another thing you could try is providing her with more toys and increasing the amount of time you spend playing with her. If she's tired out and well fed, she won't need to hunt as much.

Though it sounds like she's quite the hunter. Maybe investing in a pair of rubber gloves and some garbage bags might be the simplest thing.

well I understand that all the dead animals are gifts, in a way, and she means well, but it's getting ridiculous now. I mean the number of animals is getting into the double digets.

we actually got this cat as an inside cat (because I had other outside cats) but eventually she started going in and out of the house and spending a lot of time outside (where she was raped) so now she stays in our garage during the day, sleeps on the car, and at night she sleeps in my bed with me.

I don't think we really have a mouse problem because she brings in more baby birds than mice and my step dad has traps and poison and junk all around. which luckily the cat hasn't died from.

as far as the toys and food goes, she hasn't played with toys since she was a kitten, and I keep her food bowl full at all times. I really don't know what else to do but I guess I'll try and keep her inside all night (she only hunts at night) and get her some toys.

thanks for the advice.

The CatAplut is pretty fun, as are cat dancers. Anything with nip should get her dosed enough to be distracted.

Good luck and it could be worse. A friend of mine's cat once caught a bat. Ew.

The fact is cats and dogs are eaten the world over it is really nothing to fret about. So you have a cat as a pet big fucking deal. People have chickens, lambs, rabbits, and a host of other animals for pets yet we still eat those.

You should keep a piece of charcoal next to your bed, and everytime another mouse is brought to you you should draw a little mickey mouse (three circle style) on your wall and put and X through it. That way you can keep an official tally.
