MPAA Chafes at Bit(Torrent)

A new technology called BitTorrent, which can download a pirated feature film in DVD quality in less time than it takes to watch, is posing a new threat to movie studios. According to Mercury News, the technology, which requires several "owners" of a particular film to "share" individual parts of it with others, is particularly tough for the studios to battle since the sharing network shuts down after the film is downloaded. The BitTorrent software was created by Bram Cohen of Seattle, who receives no money from sales of pirated films but does welcome "donations" from visitors to his website. However, that may not insulate him from a lawsuit by the MPAA. John G. Malcolm, director of worldwide anti-piracy for the Motion Picture Association of America, told Mercury News: "BitTorrent and others who are complicit in copyright theft should take little comfort from their temporary celebrity status."

Honestly, I would be more chaffed over the fact that home video revenues have outgrossed theatrical revenues every year for the last three years at least. I look at it the same way I look at the music thing: people will support what's worth supporting. If you constantly hand people shit and dissapointment, eventually they'll stop wanting to pay ever increasing prices for it. However, people still want to be entertained. Since the entertainment cartels seem to do everything they can to keep out of the public any product they don't get a cut of, where then does the public turn?

The MPAA and RIAA both suck ass. While I really don't like movie downloading since you can go to Wal-Mart and pick up the movie for a fairly decent price but still ....just these two companies both suck major ass and they can burn in hell for all I care.

Didn't they sue a 13 year old girl who was in JH? I mean WTF is that kind of shit? Do they expect this 13 year old girl to pay off the HEFTY fine they slapped her with?

1- they are just a lobby group...

2- Sueing that 13 year old go them a shit load of press !
