Somebody called into Stern this morning saying they were there at the club during the shooting. They claimed that the gunman was pissed cause Pantera had broken up.

That's all kinds of fucked up.

heard about this on the australian local news - amazing stuff - something i found morbidly funny was that the gunman shot the drummer five times first - at least thats what was said on our local news.

Who the fuck is dimebag darrell? I'm pretty sure Pantera is the band of choice for a generation of teenagers whose "Parents just don't understand" while they sit in the dark with the blinds drawn.

Over in GBS there's a huge fucking thread over some superfriend in some angsty band, that if it had been Linkin Park noone would have given a shit.

Instead there are literally people writing long letters to motherfucking Fox News (I'm not kidding) outraged that they dare slander their artist du jour.

I was never a big fan of his music but the guy probably didn't deserve to be gunned down on stage.

Pantera was definately a band that spoke for a legion of disaffected teens. Unlike a Linkin Park or a Staind or a Trapt, Pantera was a real "grease and guts" kind of band. They lived hard and played hard and never pandered to the MTV crowed, never worried about looking pretty, and never cared about winning over the masses. They played with their hearts and played till they bled. I was never a fan but I knew a lot of people that were and they didn't just listen to the music, they were absorbed in it. I could never understand it personally, but most people will never understand the connection I have to the bands I love. The fact that it happened on stage during a show is even more tragic, and with the gunman dead, we'll never know why it happened. This will just be another sad footnote on some VH1 special in a few years.

never was a big pantera fan, but I know they effected a lot of people. went to a really big show tonight and one of the female dj's from the local radio station made a rather tasteless remark along the lines of "please no one shot any of the band members tonight". a lot of people booed her, but most didn't know what she was talking about because they were 13 . later adam lazzara of taking back sunday asked for a moment of silence and it was really nice.

Later in the day I read that it had been 24 years to the day since John Lennon was shot.

This happened in a bar show, not a big arena or hall show where they'd normally pat you down. I don't think it's really going to come to bars patting down their patrons.

I've played a lot of clubs in my life. Probably around 50 or so. Some actually did pat us down before we could go to soundcheck. For instance, the Whisky does that. Everyone who goes it get's checked no matter what. So basically, clubs/bars are already doing it. But I don't think it's going to change anything. Maybe when a big band/celebrity decides to play a little dive they will check at some places. Most places don't really give a fuck though.

This is truely horrible, I met him like a year ago in December and for some reason the people never developed the pictures I took with him. A year later, (few days ago) out of the blue I decided to finally get them developed (I had the negatives) so I dropped them off and then he's fucking murdered. I feel so bad, he was a fuckin awesome guitarist. I'm going to definetly hold onto the signed poster and pics he gave me
