Star Wars has given me a lot of joy over the years. The films themselves were a very important part of my youth and a part of the person I grew into, in their own way. They're just great films. I love watching them to this day and being swept into that galaxy far, far away.

A decade ago, they came back in the biggest way. I remember in the late 80's and early 90's, all was very quiet on the Star Wars front. The merchandise was restricted to yard sales and flea markets; Star Wars was stuck on home video and Christmas day TV marathons. There were some novels and video games, which were cool. But then suddenly in the middle of the last decade, it all came back. It was back on store shelves, in the media and most importantly, on the big screen. The naysayers can't deny that the Special Editions were great for that sole reason: seeing them on the big screen. Lucas was quoted at the time saying that Star Wars was designed as a theatrical experience and he must have been right, because I've honestly never had a greater time watching the films.

Now here we are 30 years after the original release and I find myself bored. Artoo mailboxes and Celebration IV just aren't cutting it for me. I'm not pumped at all. I want it back and I won't deny it. I want to see 'The Empire Strikes Back' crawling up the screen at my local cinema. I want to see it on TV in commercials and news reports; lines around the block of people waiting to see the films again in the theater. That's what it's all about. The Special Edition release was a good time.

It's not a lot to ask, is it?

I agree! I miss the Midnight Madness at the toy stores. That was always fun for me. Maybe all is not lost. They were talking about releasing on six movies in 3-D!

There's nothing at all that can compare with seeing a Star Wars movie midnight debut.

N-O-T-H-I-N-G.

Hey, who are we kidding? I'd settle for a hand job from a fat chick in a twil'ek costume during a midnight screening.

The feeling I got when Revenge of the Sith ended was the same feeling I got when school was done or I had moved away from where I grew up. It almost hurts to say this, since I grew up with Star Wars, but it's over and it's time to move on.

I agree with you for the most part ET.

By the way I found out that Corgi/Master Replicas isn't renewing their license with Lucasfilm for 2008 so after this year I believe now more Star Wars items from Master Replicas will be made which sucks since I was looking forward to more FX sabers...

Anyways I will agree with you I'm not pumped up about it any more like I used to be. I could give a rats ass about Celebration IV.

The only thing at this point now is if I want to know if we will be getting a Saga DVD set or not as well as the complete supposed Saga soundtrack box set.

I have to agree with everyone, I'm pretty underwhelmed with the 30th anniversary stuff so far. It started off kinda cool with the Rose parade, but something that could have been kind of a cool pop-culture kind of phenomenon in terms of synergistic media has turned out in my opinion to be kind of scattered across the board.

I'd say unless you're a hardcore fan, most people don't even know that it's the 30th anniversary of Star Wars and from a branding standpoint, even a simple DVD sticker that says "Star Wars 30th Anniversary" on existing DVDs would probably bring more general awareness to the fact that it's the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars.

George Lucas has been in the media more this year than in years previous, but it doesn't seem like there is anything happening other than some toys, Celebration IV and a few things at Disneyland and Disneyworld.

I could be wrong though, C4 could turn into a type of launch-event where they start to talk about 30th anniversary promotions and products, but based on everything I've heard it sounds like just a big merchandising event. The only cool thing that would make me go to C4 so far is meeting Ralph McQuarrie, thats about it.

I'm a huge huge fan and I've always been fascinated by what Lucas and Lucasfilm are doing/planning, but so far I think they've really been very low key about 30th Anniversary.
