Having read only the first book and seen the latest IMAX movie, I'm mildly curious to know if this was hinted at earlier or if this is simply a post-fame attention grab. From the author herself:

I had assumed that he was gay from the beginning. Hell, with the way he goes waving his 'wand' around at everyone. Plus, he's the "head-master". Yes, these were cheap shots. I'm not proud. I hit submit anyway.

People in the 50's were such cute little creatures.
