[MF] Batman Begins • Behind The Scenes Set Shots

Postby malkieD2 » April 14th 2004 2:59 am

filming outside my office today roughly in a direction to give this shot

I haven't read the script, so I'm not 100% sure. I've been lead to believe that its the outside of the Arkham Assylum that they are using my building for. Probably means there won't be any actors, but I'll keep an eye out.

Ok, very boring pics, but they are just building the set right now.

Parts of the Asylum Courtyard.
Its made of wood, but it has a brick effect on the inside: http://www.malkieland.com/work/set1.jpg

The really interesting bit is the set that they've build so far - a really large set of stairs which leads up to a wall. They'll probably build a door way at the top later. I'll try and get a photo of that later, but there are loads of people on it right now, and I don't want to look too shady.

That object that looks like a big bath in the top picture is actually a doorway - they've positioned it at the top of the stairs that form the main part of the set. Directly opposite are two sets of scaffolding which I presume they are going to set the cameras on top of.

Given that its just workmen who are building the sets I'm hoping they'll all finish at 5pm then I can have a good wonder around and take some decent photos.

The coolest thing I've seen out of my window were two large plans (you know, like architech drawings) for the set they are building. Now, if I could get my hands on those they'd fetch a pretty penny on ebay.

As to the location - its in north London. I work in a really old building which does look similar to a mental asylum. I'm not sure how much of the filming they are doing in the UK, but the word around here is that that Nolan really liked the location here and wanted to use it for the asylum.

I'll be back later with decent photos.

End of building for the day has left us with these pictures. Not really exciting, but its whats there.

main set showing stairway and doorway at the top: http://www.malkieland.com/work/set3.jpg

directly opposite is some scaffolding,
perhaps for to mount the cameras: http://www.malkieland.com/work/set4.jpg

There is still a load of set on the ground that hasn't been built yet, so I'm hoping the final product is impressive.

I hope its finished tomorrow (Friday) as I don't think I'll be here over the weekend.

Photo update for the day.

Ok, I realise these are getting a bit repetative, so I'll hold off posting anymore until the set is finished, or anyone famous is around.

I don't know how much more I can get.

I got a memo this morning saying we're all banned from accessing the offices and laboratories that surround the set as of Friday at 7pm. I'm presuming they are filming then but I won't be there to see it.

I'll post photos of the final set if I can.

ok, things are really hotting up on the set - its nearly finished, and today they added the lettering above the door to form "Arkam", which really made me mark out.

The entrance to the courtyard is nearly completed. There are two towers with fake copper roofs, linked by a fake steal walkway. It looks like they are making a grating type thing to fit into the entrace way.

The good news is that they are letting us watching the filming tomorrow night, the bad news is that we're getting searched for photographing equipment (including cell phones), so I really doubt that I'll get any photos for you guys.

I'll grab some photos at the end of the day to show the final set, but I think thats going to be it :( I'll hang around for filming tomorrow, and hopefully see some action !

ok folks, these might turn out to be some of the final photos I post. The film crew, directors and actors are arriving tomorrow night to start filming, and we've all been banned from our offices and laboratories in the evening. However, the good news is that they are letting us watch the filming, but all photographic equipment is banned from the set.

I'm going to hang around to watch filming just to see what happens - its not everyday you can hang out on a major motion picture set.

Anyways, here are the photos.

Anything I can get tomorrow before the filming starts I'll get and post here :)
