X-Men III

X-MEN producer Lauren Shuler Donner spoke about the latest plan to make X-MEN 3 at last Wednesday's Saturn Awards. Shuler Donner revealed that ideas for the third film outing of Marvel's mutant superhero team are starting to coagulate, and that she anticipates a start of filming on X3 sometime in June 2005 to make a May 2, 2006 release date.

The veteran producer also said she hopes to make the second sequel with the inclusion of popular comic characters The Beast and Gambit, and that she hopes she can entice Halle Berry back to don the white wig as Storm. "I certainly hope so, because I love working with her," Shuler Donner is quoted as saying by Sci-Fi Wire. "We would only write a big huge role for her, so she's right in that respect, and we would make sure that that would happen."

The X-MEN producer didn't address the comments published in an issue of Wizard two months back that the storyline of X3 would touch upon evolution gone wild, but she did say that the Dark Phoenix storyline from the comics would be used somehow in X3 and that Famke Janssen would be back. "We love Famke anyway, so, yeah," answered Shuler Donner. "Well, she's Dark Phoenix. She's Jean Grey."

Comics Continuum:
"I don't want to sound ungrateful, but first of all, I don't know what the script's going to be like. I don't know what it will be like. But I would find it very, very hard to watch someone else play the role of Wolverine, you know. But, you know, I've had a really great go of it for two movies, so you never know. They may want to move it in different directions, so we'll see what happens in it".

He's all keen on the idea of a third film in any case: "I can see there being complete validity in doing X-Men 3, if not more. I mean, I think it (X2) cemented what was a really interesting world".

The studio is currently aiming for a May 3, 2006 release.

If Twentieth Century Fox were smart, they’d give Jackman his own solo Wolverine movie.

With him thinking that Jean is dead until X3, this would be a perfect time for Wolverine to go off on one of his rages.

Heh, I can just imagine her sounding really, really sarcastic while saying that.

Tyler Mane who played Sabretooth and Ray Park who played Toad have confirmed that they are both returning for X3.

Two New Mutants:
Beast
Gambit

Without Jackman as Wolverine, these things will become meaningless in a hurry.

He should always be the priority.

As to Berry, who cares.

fucken oath. No Wolverine - No X3. Simple.

The ending to X2 basically paves the way for Dark Phoenix. Any denial from the crew on this is all balls. We've seen cameos from Beast and Collossus, but it's intersting to hear of the return of Toad and Sabretooth/James Hetfield. How true are these rumours?

oh yeah, X3 can go without Storm, who's a pedestrian mutant if I ever saw one.

they confirmed to me that this is definitely the direction Bryan Singer is headed in.

Wrong. Singer confirmed to Wizard 2 months ago that while initially considering this, after talking to Peter Jackson he was not going to attempt to do 2 films back-to-back.

Why? Shooting three 3 1/2-hour films back to back isn't anything like shooting two 2-hour films back to back.

I'll have to find the article for the exact reasoning he gave, but off the top of my head it had to do with the logistics and investment that needs to be made (creatively along with monetarily) before filming even begins.

About chatted with Cyclops himself, James Marsden, about X-Men 3 and here's two clips...

How responsive will the talent be to coming back?
I think everyone will be back with the exception of one person.

Could it be Famke Janssen who won't come back, since she was killed off in X2?
No, I wasn't suggesting that and she's not really killed off. I think what's going to happen is, I think, and this is purely speculation, is that hopefully they'll get into the Dark Phoenix storyline from the comic book. But again, that's purely speculation.

It's pretty obvious who might not comeback.

Storm was almost not in X2 it seems Ms. Berry wants too much money nowadays.

20th Century Fox has provided us (superherohype.com) with the new teaser poster for X-Men 3, opening in theaters May 26, 2006! The third installment, to be directed by Brett Ratner, will start filming in Vancouver this August. The original returning stars have been signed, and the cast is bolstered by Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Vinnie Jones as Juggernaut and Lost star Maggie Grace as Kitty Pryde (aka Shadowcat).

I don't know. I'm a huge X-Men fan. Grew up reading the comics. I love X1 and X2. I just think this picture lost all credibility when Singer left and Fox (namely Rothman) got pissed.

They are now rushing the shit out of it (Production officially begins in August for a May 26th release). They are out to beat Superman to the multiplexes and I think it will come back to bite them in the ass. It is much better to wait, let Superman have its day in the sun, fix the problems with the script, get the CG effects perfect and assure yourself that you will be able to make an X4 or X5 instead of running this gem into the ground just for the sake of showing up your old director.

Singer came into X-Men seeming not to know diddly shit about them. But he studied them, let people who knew enough about the characters get their say about them and came off with a not perfect, but certainly great movie (X-Men). He came back for the sequel and you could tell that they were starting to roll with some great ideas (Wolverine alone in the mansion against an entire task force!?! fuckin A) and setting up wonderful sequels.

Then Fox/Rothman fucked around for a year and a half without signing him for X3 and it came back to haunt them. Fox should swallow their pride and wait on this to get it right.

just read the script review over at AICN.

hmmm, it sounds good on some parts, Arcangel is acutually my favorite character, so i'm looking forward to this. but again, some parts does sounds a little shaky.

i want to read the whole script-- i dont care how old it is. its hard to get nervous or excited based on someone else's interpretation. its always best to get it from the source and see for yourself. the script reportedly got leaked online. anybody has that?

looks like another cast member has joined, Mei Melancon as Psylocke.

Mei Melancon has joined the cast of the comic book-inspired sequel "X-Men 3" as the evil mutant assassin Psylocke. Melancon, who appeared in Brett Ratner's "Rush Hour 2," is reteaming with the helmer for the third installment of the superhero franchise from 20th Century Fox and Marvel Entertainment says The Hollywood Reporter.

Word began leaking last week from the Vancouver set that the latest "X-Men" installment would introduce the character Psylocke, who has had several incarnations in the Marvel comic book series and is best known for her fighting and telepathic skills as well as an ability to transport herself and others through shadows.

In the film, she will fight against the X-Men as a member of Magneto's (Ian McKellen) Brotherhood of Mutants.

Entertainment Weekly interview with Hugh Jackman from the other day, talks about Xmen3 and spreads rumors of Wolverine-solo-spinoff movie.

from the article:There's a lot of things we really tried to get in 1 and 2 which -- I don't mean to be blunt -- were just real expensive and we couldn't get them in until 1 and 2 were so successful. So there's some sequences there that the fans -- if you go to that midnight screening on the first night, they'll just be going ballistic.

This is a little late but since it isn't here already, I thought I would do the honors.

Here are 3 new pics of Phoenix (1 with Magneto):

And then on comingsoon.net, I found this synopsis of the novel adaptation being written by Chris Claremont (who also wrote the novelization for X2, and wrote a couple or so X-Men comics at one time :monocle: ):

"The X-Men, mutant heroes sworn to defend a world that hates and fears them, are back! This time, with the help of new recruits The Beast and Angel, they must face evolution itself in the form of their former teammate, Jean Grey! Possessed with the cosmic power of the Dark Phoenix, the resurrected Jean Grey has become a danger to herself, her mutant comrades, and the entire planet! To stave off this imminent threat to humanity, a potential cure is discovered and processed to treat -- and ultimately eliminate -- genetic mutations, once and for all! Now, as the battle lines are drawn, the X-Men, led by Professor Charles Xavier, must contend with both Jean Grey's world-consuming powers, as well as the malevolent Brotherhood, a band of powerful mutants organized under Xavier's former ally, Magneto!"

The novel is due May 16th.

Great trailer, but fuck, it spoiled a whole lot of the movie if you look closely, I noticed fairly clear evidence of two MAJOR characters' deaths.

One of whom I'll be glad to see kick the bucket, the other not so much.

Y'know, I don't even care about her being miscast. Storm was never my favorite character from the comic books and I was okay with her having the role she did in X1 and X2. My problem with Halle Berry is that she bitched about having a main role in this movie which I think is part of the problem with X3 (aside from Tom Rothman and a hectic shooting schedule). She wants to be in the spotlight and that ruins any movie that is an ensemble. She should just feel honored to have the role and instead she wants to fuck up this movie just to get more attention. Did anyone see Catwoman? Bleh!

Actually, if she wasn't in X-Men I would have never known what happened to a toad when it is struck by lightning.

It probably wasn't on purpose though (that she lost the accent). She probably just forgot to do it.

From watching the trailer I believe these are the things I like. It looks as if we are finally going to get a team versus team fight. Now whether this is just in the Danger Room or not remains to be seen but I do love the thought of Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, Iceman and Beast going up against Magneto, Callisto, Juggernaut, Pyro and Mystique. That looks like what is happening in the shot where Magneto's group is standing there at night and the X-Men are all lined up. I can only hope. Also, the Brotherhood going against humanity. Usually it was Magneto trying to use some kind of device against humanity, but in the scenes in San Francisco it looks as though they are finally using their powers to destroy humanity. This movie feels a little closer to the comics but keeps the look of the first 2 movies. I love what I'm seeing from this trailer.

Oh and another subject: What exactly is Rogue and Kitty going to do in battle? I mean, Rogue would have to get close enough to somebody to steal their powers and Kitty can only phase through stuff.

Hmm, yeah I agree L_S, that would disturb me too--Wolverine, while cool, has dominated the two preceeding movies far too much already.

I do hope they give Jean/Phoenix justice in this movie, if they didn't, I'd have a real hard time liking this film.
