Okay, so I was watching the goriest of horror films by the second grade. I consider myself a jaded prick when it comes to dealing with the fictional plights and pretend emotions of the people I see on-screen. The original version of this movie bored me to death. By the time I had seen it, it was 'bleh', but the remake was entertaining and had me on the edge of my seat. Don't tell anyone, but I actually 'felt' bad for the tourist family once the real trouble started out in the desert. And thats rare, so this must be better than what I remember of the original, or I'm just getting soft in my old age.

I saw this with my wife and she hated it because it "didn't make any sense" (allthough I had told her the basic premise of "nuclear mutated desert family terroroizes doomed travelers" a'la cheap Texas Chainsaw Massacre rip-off concept + radiation). She was like "so what, is that all this is about??!?". So maybe for your average movie-goer, this one will be boring or leave them feeling like it was all a bit pointless. But I liked it. And the dog had more balls than any of the main characters.

I saw Aja's HIGH TENSION a few weeks ago and was genuinely disturbed by it -- until the end, which was a fucking mess. Violence can still be shocking when it's handled by a director who knows what he's doing.

Sort of ironic that the original THHE was directed by Wes Craven, who did his best to turn the horror genre into a joke with his Scream trilogy. Maybe producing this remake was his way of doing penance.

Saw THHE last week and i felt no sorrow for those pathetic fucks in trouble. Never accept/solicit assistance to shave a few hours off your trip by taking a short cut. Keep w/ the map. This applies not only when you heard it from a creepy old fuck in an old run-down gas station in the middle of nowhere but also urban environments where ambush is assured.

And that was not he the only dumbass decision these characters made. I saw this one w/ several other dudes and we were all yelling and screaming at these fuckers the entire movie. "dont leave the women and child w/ the kid and the weakling son-n-law, dont waste bullets shooting into the black of night, dont barricade your self in the middle of the bad guys house, kill that fucking hateful boneless man, sic the dog on the bad guy, assist dog who is attacking bad guy and dont run away and leave dog to fight alone"

High Tension : is a good flic. You will likely be surprised as the story unfolds. i was.

Where THHE begins w/ a guy pitch forking a couple of gvt men, flipping them around like franks on a grill - High Tension starts w/ a dude giving himself head w/ a decapitated head.

THHE vs High Tension.. winner is High Tension. but they both worth a view. to me.

I totally agree with it being thier fault and found myself screaming at them as well. I was just referring to the accurate portrayal of genuine 'fear and terror' in the film. They did walk into it all on thier own though, for sure. But I yell at most horror film victim/characters for the same reason.

This 'High Tension' sounds like a good one, in a revolting kind of way. I'll have to check it out.
