Bourne Identity came out five years ago and was a complex, engaging psycho-thriller. Then Supremacy was a gritty, but not as interesting follow-up by Paul 'Shaky-Cam' Greengrass.

I just saw the third film and have to say that Greengrass crafted a succesful conclusion to this trilogy. It was suspensful, gave insight into the Bourne character, and tied up the plot in a fairly tight way. The action scenes were top notch, intense and (mostly) realistic.

My biggest gripe would be that it's sometimes difficult to follow what's happening on screen, made worse by the camera's inability to stay still. Action scenes I can understand, but when a bunch of suits are sitting around a conference table and we're treated to an epileptic camera, it gets a bit absurd.

That aside, it was a very good movie. Anyone else see it?

Having seen all three films in the same day, I'd have to say that Ultimatum is probably my favorite. Though I want to see it again before I make that official. I really love the visual style that Greengrass put into the last two films. I know people give the "shaky-cam" a bad wrap, but I think it totally fits these films. The handheld camera gives an edgy feel to these movies that helps sell the fast pace, even in the boring meeting scenes where the CIA agents are feeding us plot points. It also adds to the realistic style of Bourne as a thinking man's hero, instead of a surrealistic Superman type.

Admittedly, the first time I saw Supremacy in the theater, I had a monster migraine headache (beforehand) and the moving camera didn't help much. I think they really toned it down in Ultimatum though. Either that, or I just didn't notice it as much. Another reason why I want to see it again.

My only complaint for the movie, as well, is the shaky camera. Other than that, the chase scenes were top notch as well as the fight sequences. The plot was terrific and an overall great trilogy. When this one hit's DVD, I'll buy them in whatever set will probably be released.
