Yeah, New Conan doesn't look as bad as I feared when I only knew of him as a guy who looked like some kind of lost Dead Head. The original was an exceptionally bloody (if sometimes mis-timed in the FX) film, and I hope they don't lose that. I want to leave the theatre thinking I need a fucking band-aid. Still, he looks mean enough. I hope it gets an "R" rating, not only for the ultra-violence I'm rooting for, but with all the decent snatch they have cast, I hope there is far too much nudity for a PG-13.
One thing that gets me nervous. The villian. So they aren't remaking the original, fine by me, if done well. But one of the things that made the original such a great movie (and I don't care if he was originally a Kull the Conqueror character, he was still dope) was Thulsa Doom. Some scary evil bastard who got a gang of folks all hyped up for murder and death that they flocked to him and stood in line to be green stew for his henchmen. And Vaders delivery of all his great dialogue was cinema gold. The sense of murderous revenge on Conans part was solidly stamped in at the beginning. I hope the director and the producers of this film have an equally compelling story to tell. With breasts and ass and buckets of blood. But not together, because that's a real turn off. Yick.
