LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- The wars aren't over for "Star Wars" creator George Lucas.

Lucas said Wednesday he's making an animated TV series of "Clone Wars" that could air next year, although he hasn't sold the show to a network yet. The series is set during the time when the Republic is fighting a civil war against separatists led by Count Dooku.

The mythic period hasn't been dealt with too much in the popular "Star Wars" movies, so

• "it's a fun place to go," Lucas said.
• "It basically has all the main characters" such as Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi,

Lucas said, but the stars who played them in the movies won't voice them for the TV show.

• "There's nobody famous,"
Lucas told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.

The show is planned as a continuation of the Emmy-winning "Clone Wars" that aired in 25 episodes on the Cartoon Network from 2003 to 2005.
That series used limited animation.
The new version will use 3D computer graphics.

What I'd like to know is how is he going to do more Clone Wars stuff without destroying the continuity already established by the earlier cartoon, the comics and the novels? :what:

Then again, I am sure he doesn't care. :whateva:

not so much about the TV series, but a bit more of recent Lucas quotes ("books are books, films are films" :? ) and future plans:

Yeah, I know all this but the Clone Wars were supposed to be different. A whole section of the official website was set up just for the Clone Wars.

Cartoons, comics and novels were supposed to meld into a cohesive unit because Lucas knew he couldn't give us the full three year war up on the big screen. The movies would've had budgets of half a billion bucks each.

The plan/scam was to use all of the mediums to tell the complete story of the war from many different perspectives. Now it could all be taken apart in the blink of an eye. Hopefully, someone will put in the time and effort to fill in gaps within and between the timeline instead of just overwriting complete parts of the history.

How do you get him contradicting the books and comics from that interview? He basically just wants to make new stories, not adapt existing ones that others made. Did like the possibility of the live-action series taking place in different periods though. :)

Doesnt Lucas have that giant department that keeps him from overwriting what he's already gone?

note that I said what he's done, not books, etc.

A post (Aug 28th '06) on Anthony Daniels website reads -

I just thrilled to recording my role in the new 3D animated series of Clone Wars. Security is so tight that I will probably be melted down for even mentioning it. You'll have to wait and see

Then GL talks to the AP & states (early Oct '06) -

"It basically has all the main characters" such as Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Lucas said, but the stars who played them in the movies won't voice them for the TV show. There's nobody famous"

Is it a simple diss, has Ol' Flannelled one forsaken AD or maybe even blown a 'control freak' gasket and exercised a sub-sectioned option in the melting down of one 'Golden Rod' Daniels for letting it slip?

Or maybe AD *isn't* famous??

Far be it for me to point out the obvious though.

I really don't think he was being mean to Daniels or Oz (who's also aboard this thing), just talking about the most famous characters and their actors, I reckon. :o
