Is it my imagination or has he lost quite a bit of weight for this film?

Dogg.

Something tells me that frames later his face starts to go in Sidious mode.

Yeah, he doesn't wear Sith robes in this fight.

If I recall from one of the prototype action figure pictures floating around, he still has hair.

Pablo said Sidious actually removes his hood a LONG while ago... he mighta just meant he'd be unhooded in this scene. Or maybe he does in the fight with Yoda.

Curious to see how it'll play out on screen. I don't like the idea of a no-hooded Sidious fighting.

guys please get the fuck off the hood.

These Spoileriffic leaked images take place after the leaked Spoileriffic Mace Posse image. This is the arrest scene.

The expression on his face is after hearing Mace, and this isn't an exact line, "You're under arrest motherfucker".

He is actually getting old in real life... so I would assume that this is just the natural progress of his real life body changing/aging... remember these films have been going now for 10 years... and how old was he when he filmed Return of the Jedi in 1983-84?

Ian McDiarmid was only 39 when Jedi came out in 1983.

Here's a picture of Ian in 1980 in the film "The Awakening"

Kind of interesting, though, to note that he is actually younger than Harrison Ford. I didn't realize that until a few months ago.

The motherfucker part was added in a rewrite by David Mamet and later discarded by Tom Stoppard.

Actually, Palpatine is going "why do I look so fat in some pics and skinny in another? Oh yeah, it's the darkside power of McDonalds."

I know, I really don't like that. Seems like laziness if it's not explained...

Whether or not this is a fuck up or a plot point, we can still assume that a man of his station would have access to some amazing plastic surgeons or rejuvenative pathogens.

Someone needs to scan that Insider cover from 2001 with Palpatine on the cover for a more extreme comparison.

All this time I guess I hadn't even thought about Palpatine fighting as "the Chancellor", Then later fighting Yoda as Sidious.

I just assumed he transformed into Sid after Mace and co. pissed him off.

Palps transformations seem to be making sense now:

1.Palpatine hypes the powers of the Sith to Anakin on how to avoid death.
2.Mace is told about Palpatine's secret
3.Mace and Jedi confront Palpatine, to arrest him.
4.Palpatine either fakes defeat to Mace knowing Anakin is coming or is actually near defeat.
5.Palpatine transforms into his original ancient/pathetic form in front of Anakin to garner sympathy, and to mislead him he's just using the darkside to survive, and make Mace look like the bad guy.
6.Anakin disarms Mace, Palpatine finishes him off.

Obviously later on Palpatine has nothing more to hide, and appears in his darkside image, since Anakin has already turned and all the Jedi know his secret anyway.

Yeah, he use to have skin cancer

Also, if he's hiding his appearance, why does he need to hide it from Maul and Dooku? :monocle:

No doubt the makeup issues are a bit shifty. Tony who's the girl in your avatar I want to bite her in the ass, get lockjaw and get drug to death?

Palpatine's skin NEVER looked that bad in AOTC as it does on the 2001 insider cover. That was clearly a bit overdone.

Does he look less pale in Episode III? Yes... but since we know he's been hiding his true age anyways, who cares?

The webdoc "Pick-ups & Re-shoots" seems to show him turning to face Anakin, who is entering the room. Timestamp 1:00
