HookLineAndSinker gave the heads up to us that Governor Tarkin is now listed in the official cast list for III. Played by Wayne Pygram.

Here is our guy:

Looks like a good choice. I wonder if he has any lines at all anyway. Well, how come the older Tarkin has hair and the younger is bald? lol, they have hair regeneration programmes in the SW universe perhaps !

This is pretty sweet news. I long suspected that Tarkin was in the film, of course, even if only as a cameo, but Wayne Pygram playing him? That's a good casting call. Considering his time on Farscape, playing an exceptional, multi-layered villain, that's almost like bringing in Sean Connery for that famous cameo on Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. They're using a good actor for the role. True, it's a role that may not have any lines, but Pygram can deliver menace with just a look, and under heavy makeup yet. And hasn't the rumor been that the actor had makeup to make him look more like Peter Cushing?

All in all, an excellent choice.

I'm wondering how that cameo is going to work.

Unless we see Palpatine make Tarkin's aquaintance at some point in the film, the cameo will feel tacked on.

There were spoiler reports about Palpatine giving authority to Imperial Governers in the galaxy earlier in the movie. Who knows if that will stay though.

Pretty sure that's not Pygram, he looks like he need absolutley minimal make-up/prosthetics as is!

Notice the sunken cheeks, and the large indention in the ears of all the pictures. The makeup Tarkin has a nose that ends in more of a point than Pygram's supplied pics, however we all know how Ian's (Gandalf) nose looked in LotR. Also focus on the 'dimple' between Pygram's eyebrows, and his large forehead compared to the makeupshots.

I would bet the makeup tests have legitness to a degree.

Yeah, Pygram is a built, muscular guy. He's got Cushing's nose and cheeks, but that's about it. Eccleston has a knack for playing frail, skinny, and creepy characters. And he has a similar voice to Peter Cushing. I'm kinda disappointed he didn't get the part. But so what... it's probably a 5 second cameo anyway.

Tarkin was suppose to appear at the end of RotS with Vader and the Emperor. It would surprise me if he is present at one of the many military installations across the galaxy, or at the Regional Governors Decree.

That was the rumor but it proved to be bullshit when the first pic of burnt Anakin and the Palpatine as Sidious pic turned up in HS webdocs. Now Carl Cuningham seems to be confirming that the Tarkin pics were real too, so in short all those make-up testy shots were in fact real.

I think it's about time we had a massive fucking cull in this place. Pygam looks fine. Considering his role is likely to be nothing more than a couple of seconds long then i'm sure it'll be all good. They've done a great job with Ewan so why not?

Yeah, it annoys me when people care more about consistency than the actual characters and how they're ultimately portrayed. Like you say, Ewan has done a stellar job, while only faintly resembling the late Mr. McGuinness.

Cool. I doubt he'll have lines. The minute he opens his mouth and doesn't sound like Peter Cushing it'll kill the character. Unless Lucas gets him to re-do the voice of Cushing for the next DVD release of the OT, hehe.

About 12 months ago I pointed this out in a thread. If you do a little research it wasn't hard to figure out.

The company doing the prosthetics for Ep III is Image Creative who also did Farscape. Wayne Pygram was in Farscape. Wayne Pygram is in the Image Creative portfolio in various make-ups, including this one:

http://www.imagecreative.net/images/large_003.jpg

Which looks similar to that Tarkin test make-up pic. That is clearly Wayne Pygram in the Tarkin make-up, which is indeed a legit pic.

Cooooooooool it all fits together now. The Farscape connection, the prosthetics company story. I can't wait to see how big of a part it is.

I'm imagining somthing along the lines of Tarking being used as an example of what Palpatine means exactly by his idea of using 'regional governers' etc.

Looks a little like Roddy McDowell in Planet of the Apes. That's no bad thing, Roddy McDowell rocks.

It will be interesting to see how his role plays out. I can't imagine that we'll see any more of him than we did Bail in Ep2. Again, that's no bad thing. I don't need to see an explanation as to why he got his position or whatever.

I personally would have preferred Tim Roth, but I think this guy looks enough like a young Cushing for it to work. Ewan McGregor doesn't necessarily look like a young Guinness at all, either, but he made it work once you got that beard on him.

The one with his hand below his chin is the look they went with. That's a scetch of the Wayne Pygram make-up test. Although, it'd be cool if they could make a composite of the two, like they did with the clone pilots (Bodie Tayler's face & Temuera Morrison's face combined into one).
