Insider #81 Online Content @ starwars.com

Postby Kalla » March 9th 2005 11:04 pm

The online content for the newest insider is up. It's got some pics from Ep3 (The Opera, some other ones) as well an excerpt of the ROTS Novel.

I'd reccomend anyone with Hyperspace to check it out.

Any clue why Yoda has his saber lit INSIDE the Jedi Temple?

Yoda is in the Senate. Compare it against the leaked picture with Yoda, the two red guards and Palpatine.

They also have some cool excerpts from the making of book. It mentions that at one point, Han Solo was to be on Kashyyyk.

I'm really looking forward to the novelization. That interview with Matt Stover was amazing, everyone should take a look at it.

There's also Mace holding his sabe down towards the camera, more than likely the scene where he has Palpatine at his knees.

There's a bit of script dialog in the "Making of" book excerpt :)

Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) scans the volatile landscape of Mustafar, contemplating what is wrong with the galaxy and how he can fix it

This shot is my favorite.

There's also the shot of Ternian's avatar in the set.

Are we allowed to post the Insider script dialogue between Anakin and Yoda or not?

Yes, go ahead. Of course please refrain from posting entire articles and HyperSpace pictures. :)

I would rank the Making Of Book .pdf excerpts as the best hyperspace feature since last summer's (July 2004) Kashyyyk concept art gallery.

The .pdf's from the Making Of feature Pudu's JediDefender/Tom Hodge's leaked Invisible Hand ship + backs up almost every MF HardCopy report we had. Even delving into Han Solo on Kashyyyk cut concept territory.

According to the interview with the Making of book author, Lucas gave Spielberg a few scenes to play with at the animatic stage: the Yoda-Palps duel, bits of the Mustafar duel and a "couple of others". :)

Cool. Ok here it is:

YODA
Premonitions . . . premonitions . . . Hmmmm . . .
these visions you have . . .

ANAKIN
They are of pain, suffering, death . . .

YODA
Yourself you speak of, or someone you know?

ANAKIN
Someone . . .

YODA
. . . close to you?

ANAKIN
Yes.

YODA
Careful you must be when sensing the future, Anakin. The
fear of loss is a path to the dark side.

ANAKIN
I won’t let my visions come true, Master Yoda.

YODA
Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force.
Mourn them, do not. Miss them, do not. Attachment leads to
jealousy. The shadow of greed, that is.

ANAKIN
What must I do, Master?

YODA
Train yourself to let go of everything you
fear to lose.

While I did get to read the excerpt from the novel, I wanted to see the pics and such... :? I though the bit from the novel was awesome, thought, and to be honest I'm thinking of buying it, whereas before I really didn't think I would.

For all those complaining, it's back up, and wow! Those images are awesome! I was beggining to regret getting Hyperspace, but now I see it was no mistake; awesome. That shot of Palpatine looks like he's taking pleasure in murdering someone, lol. And that shot of Anakin is byfar my favorite; it's very poetic, and artistic in a sense. And what the hell!? Obi with a blaster? :monocle:

It appears the gallery featured images mostly from the trailer.
Ternian's avatar and the Calamari stripper in the watersphere were my favorite images.

pungaboy wrote:I also really like his description of Anakin and Obi-Wan as Heroes. I mean, we all think of them as heroes, but it's cool that they're described as being THE Heroes of their time. It also adds some poignancy and perspective to the obscurity in which Obi-Wan spends the latter years of his life.

It was cool, but unfortunately it only aggravates the OT name issue. If "Skywalker & Kenobi" is synonymous with "daring heroes" to every child in the galaxy, does no one think it's odd that Luke Skywalker and Ben Kenobi live so close? Unless we're supposed to assume that millions of people adopted those names based on the legends of the Dynamic Duo, or something.

Anyway, the novelization actually sounds really good - maybe more than just a cash-in.

I thought it read quite a bit pulpy. But for all I know, every Star Wars novel reads that way.

I was always under the assumption that everyone just presumed them dead. Kenobi could've easily hidden on Tatooine... an out of the way planet with little imperial presence.

Living on a Tatooine wouldn't be like say living on Corellia, you can hide like a "grain in the sand".

I find it hilarious that people who hate making the SW galaxy smaller, fail to realise that more than one person can have the same name in a galaxy spanning millions of planets, with millions of people on each, single planet. You can´t get easily detected with that large amount of people who might just have the same name as you.

Hell, I just got a wrong phone-number from someone wanting to talk to a guy with my name who lives in my neighbouring city!

Yeah, thanks for that update. Sometimes this Star Wars stuff is so far over my widdle head.

It just seems like every time I get comfortable with Luke's anonymity, they come up with an even bigger reason why it's not very plausible. Not that plausibility is a huge concern, but, well, you know the drill.

I wouldn't worry too much about Luke's anonimty being ruined by somthing mentioned in the book, I doubt it'll be played out half as prominently in the film, if it's played out at all (the whole Kenobi & Skywalker thing, I mean). There's tons of other stuff, way more important, for GL to spend his time on in Ep III.

On the other hand, don't forget that there was that scene written (I think it might have been shot, not sure though) for ANH, where Red Leader tells Luke he'd known his father and that he was a great pilot. I know a scene like that wouldn't work now, but it shows that Luke doesn't need heaps of anonimity. Also, Tatooine is such a sheltered planet, far removed from the problems of the Republic (they don't even acknowledge the currency), that Luke, or anyone else for that matter, could quite happily grow up there without ever hearing about the legendary exploits of Kenobi and Skywalker (especially with that annoying-bastard-of-an-uncle Owen Lars trying to 'protect' him by keeping him around as a farm hand).

People do not react to a Mr. Johnson living in Seattle and another Johnson living in Detroit. And that´s just two cities on one planet. SW scale is millions of planets with millions of cities on each planet with millions of people living in each city.

Think there´s a chance more than two Luke Skywalkers and two Leia´s could exist with those odds? ;)

Traiken wrote:Hell, for all we know Palpatine could have spread anti-Jedi propaganda up the asses of every Galactic citizen by that point, defaming or covering up the exploits of Skywalked and Kenobi.

I'm assuming that everyone figured that Obi Wan was dead, including Palps. I like to think that since Evil is all over the place now Sidious trying to find Obi Wan in the force now is about the same as Yoda trying to find Sidious pre New Order. Also, why would Sidious even care if Obi Wan was alive, he already acheived what set out to accomplish.

But my question is this...

We all know that Anakin turns into Darth Vader... but does the general populace also know this?

If Skywalker is this renown "man without fear" wouldn't people be like... WTF happened to Skywalker?

Who the fuck is this Darth Vader cat and what's the deal with that fancy belt cape he sports?

Imperial propaganda would portray both him and Obi-Wan as traitors, just like all the other Jedi. Vader would be, well, what ever the Emperor said he was. A Force-sensitive brought up in secret to help fight any enemies to the Republic, a re-educated/brainwashed Jedi used as a tool for the state etc.
Hey if the glorious leader Palpatine says it´s so, then it must be so! :)

Wow, if you can read that crappy, crappy writing and come away with a good impression........... Well, no wonder some people can't appreciate the difference between an EU airport novel and what George is doing in the films. No wonder Daniel Steel and Dean Koontz have careers, for that matter. It always kind of mystified me.
