Unrest in the Senate
May 11, 2005

"As a practical matter, the Senate no longer exists..." This uncharacteristically gloomy proclamation from frustrated political idealist, Mon Mothma, is nonetheless accurate.

Democracy is one of the casualties of the Clone Wars. In a conflict started by traitors to the Republic, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine surrounded himself with loyalist Senators determined to preserve the grand institution. The Republic they idealize, however, is only a shadow. By the time the first cannons fire in the Clone Wars, the government is already riddled by corruption.

In the state of emergency sparked by the war, Palpatine instituted sweeping proclamations that transformed the system, taking power away from the Senate -- from the people. These are some of the politicians active in the twilight days of the Senate and the trappings of their declining office.

I may have missed this, but I loved the Senatorial update. :) We finally get to see someone who is making all these ships - Gidden Danu :D Also, there are a couple of pics of cut scenes and costumes. :)

The end result was a very expressive background character capable of a great range of radio-controlled lip and eye movement. So impressed with the new Mon Calamari mask was Lucas that he briefly considered replacing the footage of Admiral Ackbar in Return of the Jedi with the improved mask.

Uh-oh.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind if they made Ackbar CG. I realize allot of people would be against this, but I think it would look better. It's just that when people think of CG characters in Star Wars, Jar Jar is the first thing that comes to mind, and that leaves a bad taste in their mouths.

I say they replace Ackbar. He works for me now, but hell, if you can make it better, why not? At least fix his lips in his closeups and headshots.

Well, at least we know, GL is thinking of tweaking the OT again...and hopefully some of the other episodes too.

I wouldnt mind the Ackbar change either. It can't hurt, can it?
Also if George IS going to tweak the other episodes too, then I'm sure hoping for a Digital Yoda in Episode 1!

Aren't they going to replace it with CGI?

He's never going to stop is he? Well, I guess whatever makes him happy, but I'm going to be tired of shelling out money for new versions every couple years.

One more version, I hope, he will do. One last ultimate box set I could live with. I wouldn't mind seeing CG Yoda in TPM, fixed lightsaber colors in the OT, and maybe less Jar Jar.

He changed Boba Fett's voice, maybe he'll change Jar Jar's voice to be less annoying. I bet Ahbed Best would be mad, but maybe Matt Wood could wip up something nice for Jar Jar, but I know it's probably not going to happen.

I really love the Yoda puppet in ESB and ROTJ, and I hope he doesn't fuck with those, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did.

And for furthur updates, I would bookmark this site: http://www.starwars.com/databank/updates/

Check out "A Stab at the Heart". It's a pretty cool update too if you missed it concerning the ships in the opening battle of ROTS.

Yay the saga is still in progress. Star Wars still lives... I have some meaning in life (jk, or am I that sad?... :p)

No really though, I hope he changes Yoda TPM for sure, tweak CG in AOTC here and there and add deleted footage. For III (yes I'm already at the stage I want stuff to be changed/added) add the cut footage of THE DUEL (saddened it was cut to nothing). For OT, nothing really but maybe fix bad FX here and there. Ackbar doesn't NEED to be changed, but I've seen the Mon Calarmari mask for ROTS (before cut, in the web doc) and its impressive, so it'd be nice to see an update.

I don't mind the changes but as was stated before, I'm growing sick and tired of re-buying the films. He really needs to make up his mind and do it RIGHT the first time round, rather than releasing them in bits and pieces. It's not a Windows OS for fucks sake, it's a movie.

"Holy shit Ackbar looks terrible." It dates the movie more than anything in ANH.

Are you flipping kidding? Aside from maybe Hammerhead and a few select others, Ackbar looks better than anything in the cantina.

A group can be seen to the right when Yoda leaves Coruscant (the military staging area).

They are also in the convoy on Felucia as the camera sweeps past it.

I think the entire Han/Greedo scene should be cut so everyone stops bitching about it

According to the comic strip on the OS named "Reversal of Fortune", it appears that Barris Offee is about to meet her demise. Order 66 was trasmitted to the troopers in strip 156 and things don't look good for Offee in strip 159.

Strip 160 (which will probably be posted Tuesday, May 31st because of Memorial Day) may show us that she escapes, dies, or it may cut to something going on elsewhere, implying that she probably doesn't survive. Anything can happen. I believe the strip lasts until June or July.

There was an MTV interview someone posted on either this board or another where Lucas mentioned going back and changing some of the storm troopers voices in the OT so that more of them had Temura's voice, to add consistancy.

So, yeah, he's working on another tweak. And, I don't mind buying the updated DVDs. It's what...30 bucks for the boxed set? Not that big of a deal.

-In an effort to make the destruction of Alderaan a bit more dramatic, I'd like to see the blast from the Death Star hit the planet, but slow down the effects to a moderately paced shockwave orginating from where the blast hit. Show the planet's surface and to an aged Bail Organa, preferably again played by Jimmy Smits, in his office discussing something with an aide. The aide glances toward a wall dominated by a window, and asks Organa something like "What is that?". Organa looks out the window, and sees a rapidly encroaching wall of flame that is the shockwave seen from orbit. The last shot is a close up of Bail's eyes getting wider and two silhouettes seen from behind as they are incinerated. I'd also like to see the planet's destruction look more like a destroyed planet and less like an exploded ammo dump. Clearly I've been mulling over this for a while, but I think the end result would be more satisfying than just seeing an entire planet go *poof!* and that's it. Including Smits would also be a nice tie-in to the PT.

Agreed. Although I may not quite envision the destruction of Alderaan quite exactly as you put it, nonetheless I never was satisfied with the presentation of how Alderaan goes "poof" in ANH. This is actually one thing I would like to see Lucas change in Episode IV.

changing some of the storm troopers voices

Some and not all of them, right? Good, that shows the Stormtroopers as more than just Jango-clones (clones from other sources, volunteers etc.). :)

I was hoping for an Alderaan-surface scene for the longest time (now that they have all the models, just recycle and add Jimmy with a grey beard), but during the production of ROTS someone wondered about adding a scene like that (with Bail picking up his morning newspaper and looking up into the sky, just a joke) and Lucas didn´t seem like he wanted to do anything like that. Hope he changes his mind.

Hey, I thought I was the only one who realized how stupid alot of people are for thinking that Greedo actually shot at all in the original version, much less after Han did.
