I just read on phatooine.com that the running time for Revenge of the Sith is 2 hours and 35 minutes. Can anyone confirm this? I thought there were quite a few scenes cut out from the movie.

No, that's the running time of the illustrated screenplay with all of the scenes that were cut out of the movie.

Normally, I'm not a huge fan of super-long movies, but in this case, I think its acceptable because there is so much to cover.

I like losing some of the scenes better than others, but I thought they cut some stuff out of AOTC that they should have left in (and left in some that they should have cut).

I can sit though the LOTR movies and they were 3+ hours, 2:35 won't be a problem.

In the Making of book, one of the first cuts is 2:33, and a few pages later Lucas says they have "to cut at least ten minutes, more really."

And this was at the beginning of the Final Chapter (the downloadable one). So probably around the end of February, or maybe earlier.

2:20 sound's about right to me.

I see it being 2:20...

not that that means anything, but the 'Making Of' quotes Lucas as wanting a 2:15-20 picture.

I think where the most trouble he's had editing this film is trying to keep the pace fast in the middle section, but not lose the focus on Anakin. ie he wants to show the Kashyyyk and Utapau battles, but not have them take away from Anakin's seduction....that's a tough job...so I'm curious to see how they pull it off.

mm, Greater Union has the runtime at 132 minutes...I guess we'll have to wait a little for an official runtime, these all seem to be estimates...

i figure it'll be about 135 minutes.

maybe its just me, but as long as a movie is well paced, i love long movies. one, i really feel like i got my moneys worth and second, in all likelyhood, i'm enjoying the movie a lot, so it flies by so fast anyway.

i remember TPM being a breeze when i first saw it. now i can only sit through the entire movie once, maybe twice a year.

I'm concerned about the Anakin vs. Obi-Wan duel running too long. Unless they keep it totally edge of seat material, that shit could get boring, especially when it's supposedly going to be something like 10 minutes in length.

Hmm, a little off topic, but has anyone noticed on the MPAA Ratings listing they have "Revenge of the Sith" AND "Return of the Sith"?

http://www.mpaa.org/movieratings/search/index.htm << Search for "Star Wars"

The AOTC Saber Battle seems awfully short-lived once you've watched it two or three times, hopefully ROTS will redeem that.

Dude! Is that the new Nine Inch Nails single in your avatar? "The Hand That Feeds"? That's awesome! Nine Inch Nails are the masters! :heavymetal:

I couldn't. LotR are the most boring slow paced movies I've ever seen, and I refused to see Return of the King as I knew I was going to fall asleep again.

I don't have a problem with long movies as long as they keep you interested and SWIII might just do that.

FYI

The source for the 2:35 report was the AMC Empire 25 theater in Times Square, quoted from their advance ticket sales phone #. Take that info however you want. :)

As long as it doesn't play out like an abridged version of what was clearly designed to be a much longer movie, ie Attack of the Clones, I'm cool. Lucas arbitrary decision to make everyhting around 2 minutes is retarded, either make the movies longer, or cut a large chucnk of the story out and work with a much smaller story. Don't just take small pieces out of everything.

whatever the outcome, it'll beat every other sw movie lenghtwise, considering the amount of stuff that's going to happen.

I think it all depends on how many scenes are cut last minute, but i've been hearing what everone else has said, roughly 2:20/2:30 or thereabouts.

Per MovieFone that the AMCs use here in the San Jose, CA area:

"To purchase tickets for Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, rated PG-13 with a run time of 2 hours and 35 minutes, press 1"

Since the first time I've seen the director's cut of ALIENS, including the amazing pre-attack Hadley's Hope and the sentry guns scenes, I almost always want my fantasy movies to contain as much information as possible.

Lost Twenty?
Yoda on Dagobah?
Bring it on!

My local cinema is quoting 140 mins. The film is yet to be rated in the UK, but as soon as it is the official length will be disclosed at http://www.bbfc.co.uk

If it's 2:28 without trailers (which would be 148 minutes), wouldn't that make it the longest SW flick.

Accoding to the MPAA site, which rates it at pg-13 btw, it is 2:20.

Just a lil head's up in case someone else didn't notice this.

http://mpaa.org/movieratings/search/index.htm and search "Star Wars"

Also for anyone who cares, it has a 12A rating in the UK.

how do you know ?

That's what imdb lists it as.

Star Wars: Episode III (USA) (working title)
MPAA: Rated PG-13 for sci-fi violence and some intense images.
Runtime: USA:146 min
Country: USA
Language: English
Color: Color
Sound Mix: Dolby EX 6.1
Certification: UK:12A / USA:PG-13

I just report what I see.

The DLP running time for AotC was virtually the same as the film version.
For RotS, who knows much longer it'll be, but, if accurate, this 146min will be for the film version.

At C3, Rick McCullum reported (during a Q&A session) that ROTS has a final running time of 2 hours 11 minutes.

I think this is excluding credits but I'm not sure. Rick joked that it had 54 minutes of credits.
