We aren't going to say where the source came from, for obvious reasons. BUT we will say this, it isn't a TC (telecine). You can tell by the way the craft lands, the vibrations etc. It's not a retail though, it ain't far off.

Just awesome...

If you'll excuse me, I'm going to curse my ISP's piss-poor newsgroup support while I simultaneously pray to Jebus for a torrent to show up soon.

My ISP's news retention is horrible, 2GB would be nice but it's not even close.

UKPE: This is 2.0 from what I understand. But Dolby Prologic II can create a nice fake 5.1 surround field. :heavymetal:

Thanks PerfectCr,

Hmmm tempted to get this, but what if a 5.1 comes out tomorrow, because I take it a film in dvd quality like this also has 5.1 at some point...

Hmmm, I'll take a shot at it.

VCD Quality seems pretty convinced that it's a DVD rip.

What with the news on the OS about the repacking of LOE and the ROTS novelization into one book, as well the Dark Lord "sequel", both available on Nov 22, I think it's probably safe to guess that the DVD will be released the same day.

So this is Divx? Why the fuck take a perfectly good DVD rip and slap it into a computer-only format? That is retarded. I would much rather watch something on my 27" TV than my computer. Fucktardary.

The Philips DVP-642 DVD player (among others, I'm sure) plays DivX movies with astonishing clarity, whether they're burned onto CD-Rs or DVD-Rs. Just a couple of days ago I transferred my OT DVD rips to a DVD-R and now have the entire OT on one disc. I was working on one for the PT, using the ROTS workprint, until I saw this thread.

DVD and VCD are both pathetically outdated formats whereas divx/xvid can do the same quality at half the file size.

Get yourself a divx dvd player, a modded xbox or TV out.

There are apparently two torrents up at Pirate Bay -- this one was uploaded a little earlier:

http://static.thepiratebay.org/torrents/3339879.torrent

But it also looks as though neither of them are being seeded worth a shit.

i can't figure out which ones to download from the dvdrcore. they seem like alot of the same files for instance alot of then say 61/61 or 10/10. I am just learning usenet so any help would fuckin kick ass :)

if I download the 61/61 it seems like it is giving me more than one file so is that all I need? it seemed to go way too fast to be the entire thing though

Nope. That's what DivX is all about. The larger file, BTW, is the RAR'd version. Takes a little bit longer to download and has to be unpacked, but if there's a problem with corruption it's a lot easier to go back and redownload one or two RARs than an entire .avi.

I feel stupid for asking this, but my girlfriend is going to kill me if I don't go watch Penn and Teller's Bullshit....so...

How do you deal with PAR files? What program is it?

And did anyone have problems opening the sw3a.r00, etc. files? I got the 3b files to open fine, so I basically have half the movie. When I try to open the .rar for 3a, it says 58 files are corrupt/end of archive. Do I need to download these again, or is there something I'm missing? I normally know all the ins and outs of .rar files, but I was hoping there was something I was missing instead of having to d/l all of these again. I'm near my limit on Giganews.

I swear this will be my last tech support bitch, but should I be worried that there are no seeds? I now am downloading at about 50 kb from 22 peers, but there are no seeds. I thought a seed was a finished file, so does that mean that none of these folks have it finished?

Cool. The X1 isn't a bad little projector at all. Especially at the price. You're right the 4805 is probably at better bargin now though from a bang-per-buck.

That's why I did a bunch of research before a spent the jack on a projector. I went with the BenQ 8700+ because they're the OEM for Runco's HD2+ units... just about 8k cheaper.

You can't lose with a DIY screen though, especially if you've got a bright enough pj. Of course I went balls out with a SilverStar.

I sell and design high-end home theaters so, I got lucky with dealer cost and a B stock unit. I have a great screen from VuTec...not the Silverstar but, my room is dark so the picture is bright anyway.

No, I definately wouldn't team up a SilverStar with the 7200 unless you wanted to go blind.

The SilverStar is great for virtually any other non-InFocus projector.

DLP is the way to go. The brightness and contrast is > than CRT. Plus having that big screen hanging on the wall make it feel like a real theater. In fact, I like movies at home better that at the movie theater....and my popcaorn is cheaper.

Dude, the 35mm film you go to see at your local theater doesn't have the contrast of a CRT. HD2/HD2+ gives enough contrast for 99% of the videophiles to approximate the experience most of us get at your local theater.

IMHO - if you've got the $$ and the light control in your home and love movies, you just can't lose for going with a front projector.

If you're just going to watch the latest reality TV crap-o-the-week, then stick with a TV.

You're right. CRT is better at producing blacks...however, todays DLP gives a better contrast ratio and better color reproduction than the old CRTs. I got a demo of the new Marantz DLP the other day and I will say it was the best DLP Ive seen to date...of course it had a 30K price tag but, it was stunning.

So, what's the definative word on the sound?

Is it 5.1 or is it 2 channel matrix stereo surround?
