We sold over $100 million in one day of this DVD around the world, so I don’t think anybody’s too upset about it. And any changes that George made, they might be controversial to about 5 people.”

I guess Lowry has never visited originaltrilogy.com. Five? How about 65,203? Although, they sold $100 million copies in one day, times $50 a pop comes to $5 billion dollars, if I'm doing my math correctly. So $5 billion made in one day is something I'd be braging about as well.

It's not 100 million sets. It's $100 million worth. That's my understanding of that quote anyway.

And the numbers at OT.Com represent the number of people who advocate for the O-OT's release on DVD. It does not mean that they find the newer versions objectionable, or evn that they did not buy them. I signed the petition at one point, but I am a strong advocate of the new versions as well. I think they should both be available. I'll understand if the O-OT is never released, but that doesnt mean I don't support the idea of it's release.

You're totally right about the OT.com numbers. However I think Tony may have just been pointing out that more than 5 people has issues with the changes. I think 5 may indeed be underestimating the numbers.

And how many people bought the dvds doesn't really have much of a bearing on that. I have problems with some changes but bought the set because it was the only set they have released. That doesn't make me okay with the changes. But it also doesn't mean I can't enjoy the dvds. Same with several other people I know. In fact, now that I think about it, I can account for four out of those five people just in my close circuit of friends.

I'd love to see them mention the audio mess up, at least out of respect for honesty. I'll be truthful here and mention that I didn't actually notice the problem, and still don't on my system but, for whatever reason, the issue is really apparent on a friend's system (who has far better speakers than me). It's the only time I've counted myself lucky having a cheap-ass entertainment system.

Apparently they're not in admitting they reviewed ANH before it's release....then again only 5 people would notice Luke's multi scene green saber, a couple stuttering edits, screwy hue and saturation in some scenes and overall a subdued soundtrack.

But when you have a 50 inch plasma with a THX sound system, this shit is kind obvious even in a drunk viewing.

palpsfan wrote:No, your math seems to be WAY off.

They made about $100 million the first day. At $50 per unit, that comes out to 2 million units sold.

Even if there are 65,203 people (obviously give or take a few) who did NOT like the changes, that still translates to 1,934,797 people who were just fine with it.

65 thousand vs. 1.9 million? That's tipped pretty steeply in the "the new versions are fine" side.

2 million people would have bought whatever version they had for sale.
