Why did the Tantive IV crew fight?

Postby kremzike » December 2nd 2004 5:24 am

I'm about to go to bed, so I put on Episode IV to watch until I drift off. Suddenly, I had a thought...

If the Empire is the ruling power in the galaxy, and the Stormtroopers are the recognized "police force" of the government, plus if the rebels on the Tantive IV were going to try to get out of trouble by saying "This is a consular ship. We're on a diplomatic mission", why would they engage the Stormtroopers in combat as they board the ship? Yeah yeah, it's to provide the opening of the film with an action sequence, but other than that, why would they do that? It's like getting pulled over by the cops while driving too fast, then you and your buddies getting into a fire fight with them, then trying to give them an excuse as to why you were speeding after all your buddies are dead. You think that's gonna make them let you go? :D

It's a silly topic, I know. So, get silly with it!

Well, the ship was being chased and attacked in the first place by a big-ass Star Destroyer.
When you are about to get pulled over, the cops don't start shooting at you as they pull up behind you, so maybe it's a matter of who shot first?

This thread rocks and should devolve into an ugly flame war. :heavymetal:

Right on, baby! :whatevaho:

Also, the Star Destroyer was blasting the hell out of Leia's ship, then they blew the door apart to get in and started blasting everyone in sight.
Can't say I'd throw my arms up and say, "MEY GIVE UP!"

To quote Leia in ANH:

"Alderaan is a peaceful planet! WE HAVE NO WEAPONS! You can't possibly . . ."

No weapons huh? Those guys on the Tantive IV were sure armed, as was the ship itself.

Also, in the radio drama, Leia murders an Imperial Officer while she dines with her father when she lets slip she knows about the Death Star. Well, maybe not murder, they struggle and his gun goes off killing him.

Interesting, eh?
