You have to look at the bigger picture here, beyond "floating fruit across a table."

With the Force, Palpatine was able to overthrow the entire galactic government and put himself in the position of Emperor. With the Force, Palpatine and Vader were able to wipe out the entire Jedi Order.

And wtih the Force as their ally, Luke and Vader were able to destroy the Emperor.

I think this line takes on a new meaning after the PT. It's more Vader being smarmy and trying to make himself look impressive to the bureaucrats than it is a factual statement. Notice how quickly he is dismissed and looks submissive to Tarkin.

He gives a great demonstration by using the force choke, but even then you can tell Vader is quite bitter. This scene is now an illustration that Vader is a pathetic character, rather than a boastful declaration of how poerful the force is.

However on the DVD's Kersh said something that really struck a chord with me. I cant remember the exact quote but It had to do with characters like Vader, Ben, and Yoda having a type of reverence for the old times, and trying to keep up the civility of the old way. I think this is an example of Vader's discontent with the direction the Empire is heading. In the Old Republic it seems there is a certain respect for the Jedi and the Force that has been lost since the events of Ep III. Respect for the power of the force has been replaced by a respect for the power of crude weapons like the Death Star. Although im sure Vader realizes the need for such weapons, he, unlike his officers, doesn't lose sight of the fact that such weapons come in at a distant second behind the true power in the galaxy...the force.

Well put! But now I have to sit through Kersh's lousy ESB commentary to find that particular nugget.

I find it sad that Kersh, the director of the film, couldn't think of something better to say for himself besides recite what's happening on screen. It could've been great. It could've been a contender.
