Star Wars Blu-ray extras revealed


The FSK that rates movies in Germany has tested some more material from the upcoming Blu-Ray Set:

• Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope (Blu Ray Version) (New Edition) 125 Minutes (24 fps)
• Star Wars Episode II - Attack Of The Clones (Blu Ray Version) 142 Minutes (24 fps)

Movies that are released again on a new medium are only reviewed by the FSK if they are indeed altered versions or different cuts. LotR for example has not been reviewed again for it's Blu-Ray outing...

Furthermore on Disc 7 there is something called "Boba Fett: First Look" (8:39 Minutes)
That's the Boba Fett-Cartoon from the Holiday-Special I think...

GAH!!!! And just when I was thinking "screw this set" the official site puts up that montage sneak peak of the OT deleted scenes!! Looks like the whole "bunker assault" from RotJ is going to be included, as is the sandstorm, the wampa subplot stuff from ESB. Damn, there's some good stuff I had no idea even existed, let alone in such good looking shape.

Wonder what - if anything - was changed in AOTC.

The cinematically weakest sequence in the entire saga, in my opinion, was the editing of the Dooku-Anakin-Obi Wan duel. I get what Lucas was going for in terms of amping up the intensity of each section of the fight, and the lighting style he chose (darkness with flashes of light for Anakin v. Dooku), but the editing is just really bad. And I love the PT as much as the OT.

I hope that sequence was touched up. Beyond that, not sure what else could have been done with AOTC, other than including well-known deleted scenes in the final cut (Padme's family).

I would just ask to fix some lightsaber colour inconsistencies during the arena fight.

Other than that, I think it's fine (since nothing can be done about Ewan's fake beard on some shots due to reshooting).

Would only make sense; the animation, lighting, rendering and compositing are all done, and it looke fantastic in HD at SW in Concert. The only thing that would ruin it is if they just drop that shiny new Yoda footage into that muddy, shitty pink HD transfer of TPM.

the UK version has the jango headbutt cut (1seconds worth) sometimes the european discs are the same so maybe it was resubmitted to include the headbutt?

Richard Schickel and Kevin Burns are listed as "Publishers," whatever that means.



Also, if you search Star Wars on that same link above, you get this:

It describes TPM and AOTC as "Original" and ROTS, ANH, ESB and ROTJ as "Modified."

And each of the 6 films are listed as being hundreds of minutes long, which I assume counts all of the bonus material included on discs 1 - 6 in the set.

Maybe I'm becoming too much a purist but I want the option of watching whatever was shown on each film's opening day... including the crack Yoda puppet. No, it's not as good the original puppet or the CG version but dammit that's what was there originally.

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones DVD Release

• 1. Several speeders were removed from a shot during the Bounty Hunter pursuit scene.
• 2. New dialogue was added to the scene where Anakin confesses to the Tusken slaughter.
• 3. After Padmé falls out of the gunship on Geonosis, a clone trooper asks if she is all right. Her alert response of "Yes" has been changed to a more realistically groggy "Uh-huh."
• 4. Anakin's mechanical hand now holds Padmé's hand during the closing wedding sequence (this was originally included in the DLP theatrical release of the film, but not in the 35 mm film version).
• 5. During their duel on Kamino, a shot of Jango Fett headbutting Obi-Wan is removed from the UK version of the DVD.

• 6. Jedi Coleman Trebor confronts Count Dooku on the lookout balcony during the battle of Geonosis. Trebor is instantly shot dead by Jango Fett. The following shot shows Jango twirling his blaster pistol before slotting it back into his holster. In the theatrical release, this was a solo shot of Jango, but the widescreen version of the DVD has Count Dooku in the foreground, smiling as Jango twirls his pistol.

• 7. Moments before Mace Windu decapitates Jango Fett, sparks and a slight puff of smoke from Jango's jetpack can be seen, signifying that his jetpack malfunctioned.

Did did that one just fucking MUG for the camera? Wait, why did we need to break away to see some badly mismatched RotJ footage slapped into in the end of ESB?".

At the end of the day, and leaving all SE vs OUT arguments aside, I don't think it's unreasonable to say "Hey, I'd really like to see the film that I saw and fell in love with.". And I think you are seriously underestimating the power of the dollar.

The GOUT was released once, it'll be released again. Maybe again as an extra, but if this release shows nothing else, stuff has been left in reserve to bring to market at a later date for another package. They even, during prepping this release, said "nope, not the definitive release of the saga" - you'll be buying these things for decades to come, and the originals will be there eventually.

True. But as opposed to those distracting styrofoam muppets from 1983?

I'll take the CGI ones over the cheap looking originals any day. Only problem I have with the "digital muppets" is that they didn't get rid of the retarded blue keyboard-playing elephant. Get rid of the dorky wolf man mask in the ANH Cantina, but keep the rubber blue elephant puppet in ROTJ?

I couldn't care less about seeing Star Wars in all its dated original release glory. And I'm an older fan who grew up with these films.
