For some reason I am mesmerized by the pores in Peter Cushing's face. The clarity! :o

Wow. Thanks Duke. Most of those look surprisingly good for a thirty year old film, even considering the restoration.

I'll try to get them for you today. :)

Hey can I ask a really dumb question? Where did these screen grabs come from? Did someone do an upconvert from the DVD or is this something different?

Sorry to be a pain in the butt...

Some German TV-channel showed ANH in 1080p HDTV resolution with DD2.0 sounds. If you check out quality of those screenshots, you can see that they ain't upscaled from DVD. :)

Duke: Great job on the screencaps with the full-quality image files! Star Wars looks superb in full 1080 HD! :)

Could you please post some more screencaps showing the duel between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader? Pictures where you can see both their faces at the same time, and also pictures that show them locking lightsabers from a variety of angles would be great. Thanks very much! :)

The rumours I have heard say that they should be 1080p with DD5.1 sounds, so I'm greatly looking for them. This German version has only DD2.0 sounds.

I'll try get some of those reguested screenshots tonight. :)

1080p is not broadcasted anywhere in the world. They will be 1080i. The quality will most likely be slightly less since Cinemax uses MPEG2 while these are in MPEG4, resulting in less compression with the same bandwidth. You can get 5.1 tracks for these releases and sync them with the movies.

That explains the quality difference between the ANH cap's, and the ESP cap's. Thanks for the info!

Hiya Duke and guys,

I just spent an hour looking at all the pics and remembering the week I spent working on the film in 1976 at Elstree.

I did my first Star Wars signing the other month and met up with some of my old mates from 30 years ago... Nice day out....
