Well, because, it's a discussion board. You have pointed this out many times yourself. If you are not interested, don't care, or think something is not worth your time, showing up in the middle of a discussion about that topic just to say you are not interested, don't care, or that it is not worth your time does not add to the discussion. It makes you look like an obnoxious, self absorbed, psuedo-intellectual fucking dickhead. Unless you can explain why, and then you still shouldn't expect the rest of the world to fall in line with your opinion.

I know how it is. You make a post, someone slams you, you want to respond. Been there myself. But you really don't have a leg to stand on here. We get it. You aren't going to go see Iron Man. Great. Keep that to yourself and kindly shut the fuck up about it. Because this is a discussion board. Not everyone is going to agree with you. If you want to get all fight club about that, start a thread in [s]the res[/s] here and we can duke it out about the merits of your egotistical bullshit laden posting without interupting the discussion.

and Weezer IS "emo" as well. quote taken from Wikipedia article about "Emo"

Quote:
As "indie emo" became more widespread, a number of acts who otherwise would not have been considered part of the "indie emo" scene began to be referred to as emo because of their similarity to the sound. The hallmark example was Weezer's 1996 album Pinkerton, which, years later, was considered one of the defining "emo" records of the 90s.

Just to back up my claim that any fan of Weezer is a crying, long hair flipping, mascara wearing, studded belt wearing, self-cutting, Iron Man hating PUSSY.

And I also don't believe that this will be just "another comic movie" because Robert Downey Jr. is anything but typical. The post that pissed everyone off was the one of yours that simply said "pass". I mean, why bother other than to make people think you're too hip to view such tripe? Did adding that really add to the discussion at hand? Were any of us waiting with baited breath to hear if you were going to see it or not? Nope to both.

So next time, if you care to add something to these discussions without having the fan-boy wrath brought down upon yourself, maybe add WHY you wont be seeing it. Thanks. :whatevaho:

Troy, you know I agree with everything you have ever said about anything. I'm on your side about this and everything else, even though I have no idea what this is about.

See, the thing is, and maybe I'm over-simplifying things here, but there are a great deal of things I don't give a shit about. I don't watch Lost, 24, or listen to a lot of the soundtracks and movie scores other people may enjoy. But I don't go into each one of those topics and tell everyone how little of a shit the thing they are discussing means to me, and thumb my nose at anyone who bothers, nay dares to contradict my words of ultimate wisdom. If you don't have anything nice to say and whatnots.

Unless of course it's something I give a shit about, and I have something bad to say. I say negative things about topics that I care about if they look like they are going downhill or if I have a legitimate critique to make. Sure, sometimes there is some tongue in cheek smart-assery. But for the most part, if something is just not interesting to me, I just move on. I don't bash other people for not feeling the same way. And it bugs the living fuck out of me everytime someone else does. Hell, plenty of people don't agree with me, I can live with that. I like chubby girl porn and big asses. You don't? Great! More for me! Well, once upon a time anyways.

Plus, there's the explination factor. If you want your not giving a shit to mean something, Lord knows why you would but still, if you want others to see the error of thier ways and not give a shit as well, you absolutely must present some sort of evidence or logical argument as to why you feel that way. In other words, tell us why, or shut the fuck up. If your "why" is not good enough, it at least might add to the discussion. Otherwise you are just going to end up derailing the topic with your own defensive bullshit. And that makes for a lousy read, unless it gets really nasty. Then it could be fun, but not in the main topic thread. I'm not trying to play junior mod here, but as a member/avid reader it gets kind of annoying. I'm not sure why I'm typing all this out, it's common fucking sense.

Imagine going up to some people in real life who are talking about something, excitedly discussing the details of whatever it is, and telling them that what they are talking about is pointless and beneath you. Depending on when or where this happens, you would be met with differing reactions ranging from a request for an explination as to your feelings, to a swift kick in the face. No one, anywhere or anytime, is going to respond with "Oh, well if you don't like it, it must suck. I now will not bother with it either." Unless you walk up to a bunch of retarded and spineless nitwits or imaginary friends that just adore you and your opinions. And something tells me that doesn't happen a lot to any of us. And you sure as all hell shouldn't expect it to here.

Nice post there Troy and I completely agree again. BTW Starkiller if you don't know what the fuck he's talking about go into the Iron Man thread in the Movie Spoilers and look on the last page (I think) and you'll see Sunshine come in and make a cluster fuck of a post...

Personally it's about the gayest shit I've read on this forum in a long time. Saying that you're not going to see a film and not say why (basically because of someone's "review" of it).

...you only say that [stuff Sunshine said in the original thread] if you:

a) intend to be an idiot and piss someone off
II. Look stupid for the purposes of being 'different'
3 - Get attention.

So while I agree, you've also given him just what he wanted. Thus walketh the fine line of attention-seeking on messageboards...

Still, stupid post by the EMO kid.

I don't like vegetables. Or football, baseball, basketball, or NASCAR. I don't like skinny women, or virgins, or fake breasts, or religion. I do not appreciate government, authority, laws, monetary systems, fossil fuels, and the fact that mankind views itself as something un(or even super)natural. I hate drug tests, social generalizations, schedules, and Kevin Bacon. I didn't like the Soprano's either. And I'm about to give up on Star Wars, because I read a review that said it sucked in all the ways I had allready expected it to.

I did really enjoy Bugsy Malone, though.

When I was a kid I thought you could grow up to be a gangster in the 30's.

And the Blacksheep Squadron.

I always wanted to be a fighter pilot, until I had to get glasses. Damned my non-perfect eyes.

And I'm also a big fan of "old school" Disney, here is Walt Disneys Carousel of Progress, playing from 1964-present, currently at Walt Disney World in Florida.

And if you don't like any of these things the way I do, I don't like you very much either.

Just kidding!!

This has been brought up before, and I still don't see how I'm being snobbish here. My decision not to see the movie was not born out of the fact that I enjoy or demand "higher art" (I watch Star Wars movies), and is irrelevant. I was interested in this movie when the rumors began, and decided, after seeing the same--more or less--storyline of the other comic book movies but with different names and in different places, to just say "pass" which, I will admit, didn't add to anything except my own satisfaction--just like you making this thread.

Yes, but we all know wikipedia articles are subject to the opinion of the author, who, for all we know, could be someone as obtuse as you.

My opinion of the movie doesn't have much to do with the review. I don't really remember it at all, to be honest. Here's a breakdown of Iron Man 2008:

--L_S interested and intrigued about the new Iron Man movie, decides to start reading rumors on MF.
---L_S starts to see stills, decides he is uninterested in any more comic book movies after being disappointed in X-men 3 and Spider-man 3.
----L_S reads a "review" of Iron Man, it's mostly positive, but at this point, only a truly ultra positive review of the film could get him to see it in theaters.
-----L_S says "pass." Causes a few fellow boardies distress. Accused of being "emo" and called a "cluster fuck"

As you can all see, I struggled immensely leading up to this moment. It was a deep-rooted, moral, complex struggle between my head and my heart, and ultimately I decided that I didn't want to see the film for various reasons (see, every post I've ever made about Iron Man) contrary to MF's popular consensus for the movie.

I really couldn't care less if everyone in the world wants to see Iron Man, or if everyone in the world didn't. I have no personal investment in the film and won't take it personally at all if someone wants to see it for the same reasons I don't, or vice versa.

I am, however, loving every minute of this. I will forever remember Iron Man not as the shitty movie it is, but as the movie that made a few Iron Man fans angry enough at me to start a great thread about how useless I am.

I actually created this thread because I saw where this was going, and the reservation hasn't had a good brawl in a while. The way this was all going to muck up the actual topic thread was going to make it unreadable, and belive it or not, I actually watch that thread for news and info about the Iron Man movie. I like when people share interviews, or clips, or pics, or whatever bits they find scattered across the internet. I didn't want that personally valuable strain of information tainted by the shitstorm that was going to hit because you felt like repeatedly sharing your poorly defended opinion. We got it the first time. No one called you out WWE style when you wrote "pass", it was only after your repeated attempts that I bothered. And again, that was less about our 'difference of opinion' than it was about coralling the backlash response. A fully expected reponse to the fact that in your own socially retarded way, you insisted on repeating yourself until someone acknowledged you.

A fact reinforced, by your own admission, that you are actually enjoying this.
Longtime_Sunshine wrote:

See?

And honestly, all anono-tough e-macho bullshit aside, I am a comics fan sure, and a sci-fi fan no doubt, but am I actually a fan of the Iron Man movie? Well, I haven't seen the god damned thing yet, so how could I be? I might end up hating it, I don't know. And that my friend is the entire god damned point. You have allready made up your mind about it. And have said so several times. What do you want people to do with that? Really, what? It's a legitimate question.

And I don't think you are useless Mr Sunshine, I just think you are mildly confused about the motivations of other people, and what they are actually doing here. It's less about sharing opinion, and more about sharing perspective. Bringing new information to the table, or analyzing something in a new or different way. Ones likes and dislikes without some kind of verbalized reference are basically useless. At least, in a discussion.

I hate where this thread is going to end up. For a while, I was looking forward to everything that was going on in here. But I think it is just going to be like every other forum brawl. The same brawl we saw in that one forum back then, or the one where that guy was brawlin. Yeah, same storyline, same forum.

Pass.

This is how I feel about about Iron Man.

I didn't actually mean I was enjoying this--it was a response to some other poster calling me an attention-hungry troll. I actually think all this attention is unnecessary and a little humorous. I guess that's the point of the Militia. But this point wasn't made.

My mother died of breast cancer in 1994.

---

Of all the types of anti-me posts, the ones I most enjoy and appreciate are those that ask me to examine my ways in an introspective, existential manner and to consider the community at large and my impact on it. Because, after all, the Internet is serious business, and it is therefore crucially important that the brightest, kindest, and generally best among us take it upon themselves to continually remind the dimmest, meanest, and generally worst among us that MF is a prestigious institution with extremely high standards of social etiquette. Otherwise, Western Civilization as we know may very well be lost within the next 10-15 years.

Western civilization is an illusion. All our "enlightened" systems of laws are ultimately enforced by violence, and all things from allegiance or posessions to life itself are for sale. It's a barbaric horde mentality wrapped up in the trappings of something meaningful and wiser. But it isn't. And The rest of civilization is no better, just less refined. I say fuck civilization, right in the part of it's bloated ass that pretends this is all fair play.

And honestly, sincerly, Longtime Sunshine, fellow person with eyes to see, just do us all a favor and either explain when you complain or just ignore the shit you don't enjoy.

No hard feelings eh?

It is perfectly safe. All alone in a lab somewhere, anyways. The effects it has on one's psyche however, are not always ideal. If you have any sort of issues discerning reality or your place in it, manifesting in ways that might be dangerous while sober (deathwish, depression, mild-megolomania, chemical imbalance, rage issues, that sort of thing) you can go straight out loopy and hurt yourself or someone else before it wears off.

I'd say that's the most dangerous thing about it. You cannot, under any circumstances or scenarios, or by using any amount of coffee, speed or other chemical stimulants or methods, ever get an acid trip to stop. It will continue until it is done with you. And that might be 24 hours. No shit.

I'd also suggest not going anywhere whatsoever near an automobile or roadway in any fashion. If you do, even if you make it from point A to point B unscathed, you will be regretting it. Especially if you end up somewhere you can't spend the rest of your time and have to turn around and go back home. That really sucks.

Weed becomes useless. You will wonder afterward why you wasted it if you smoke it when tripping. I'm not sure about anything else, since that's all I was ever really into. Beer is good, though. It almost mellows you out (very little) and the constantly having to go to the bathroom gives you a mild distraction from the pervasive feeling of your mind melting like old cheese in a microwave and the contorting freakshow the world around you will appear to become. Try not to stare into the mirror too much, and for the love of god, don't shave anything! Wait until tomorrow!

But, it isn't addictive, unless you are allready a fucking nutjob, and even then I doubt it. It's sort of like hooking a turbo-charger up to your brain-stem, standing in a puddle and putting your finger into a light socket, and picking your nose with lightning all at the same time. It doesn't mess you up like booze, or get you high like other drugs, it rewires your mind completely for a few hours. And if you loose the battle to maintain who you were before you ate that little droplet of stuff, you might end up batshit loco indeed.

Or so I hear anyways, I've never done it. :shaman:

Just say no, kids.

Heh, nope, never.....ever. Height differences can be a blast as well...

The thing I don't get. The guy tried it twice, both times were extremely bad trips. The second one, he attempted to throw himself off of a roof because he couldn't take it any more.....but it's ok.

Poor guy, must have had a lot of un-resolved issues.

It's been over a decade since I "tripped". After Garcia died, what was the point anymore?
