The 2007 stuff is finally hitting stores. I stopped by Wal*Mart last night and picked up a shitload of figures. They didn't have the McQuarrie Trooper yet, unfortunate because it's the best of the bunch so far, along with the concept Chewbacca, Fett and Vader. With Academy Biggs, Darths Malak and Revan, and Darktrooper coming down the road, it's going be a good year for George's bank account.
So far I am not finding any new stuff save for the usual pegwarmers
Although I did find Galactic Marine (Purple Snowtrooper) and Airborne Trooper (Orange Stormtrooper) in different colors from Target's Order 66 exclusive. The figures were shelved on the register endcaps near the candy, batteries, and tabloids.
Well last night after only 4 months of being out I finally found Galactic Marine (Revenge Of The Sith Purple Snowtroopa)
Also seen the following: Death Star Troopa, Moisture Farmer Luke Skywalker, and the following vehicles all over: Sith Infiltrators, V-Wings, and Vader's Sith StarFighter.
There's still an annoyingly high amount of figures from the Saga Collection around here, and 30th Anniv. seems to be getting the shaft. I'm currently searching for Mustafar Lava Miner, Shock Trooper and Imperial Stormtrooper. I considered picking up the Infiltrator for my Naboo Starship/Tatooine Episode I focus, but it's just too damn small.
The stores where I live have been surprisingly good at carrying new stock. The Greatest Battles repacks from last year are still sitting around - if I see another Mustafar Padme or C3PO I'm going to smash it. But I'm all the way up through Wave 3, with the exception of the McQuarrie figures. Saga Legends repacks have started to hit as well, so I can look forward to those stuffing the pegs.
Note to Hasbro - everybody's sick of Darth Vader; kids, parents, collectors. No more for the next year or so.
Keep an eye on HasbroToyShop.com's 30th Anniversary area. Hasbro restocks the supply at 2:30pm Eastern Standard Time every so often and you can order your Ralph McQuarrie figgas and other hard to find items then.
I saw a single Shock Trooper at Target but passed because there was a weird splotch of white paint covering the "eyepiece" on the helmet. Assholes. I'm really disappointed with the Saga Legends. Many of Hasbro's pre-selected figures for the line are terrible, like ROTS Anakin "Lightsaber Attack!", cannon Yoda (he never used a cannon anyway) or electronic Artoo. These figures are just awful and outdated, and they've been released too many times already. I hope that next year the following are finally put on a card:
I don't know why the Emperor especially continues to get shafted with these other awful incarnations. The Evolutions version was the closest to a good Emperor they've gotten in the modern line. If they repainted it for a more movie accurate skin tone, replaced the head with a more neutral expression/movie accurate face and fixed the hood on his robe, it'd be a great figure. However, the current version has since only been available in the Evolutions multi-pack, while previous awful versions get repacked. If you're going to repack figures, do it right.
Got both my McQuarrie Luke Skywalker's in the mail and then found-picked up Quinlan Vos. The Purple SnowTroopers from Revenge of the Sith that I seen all over are now gone again.
Fireside Padme looks hot, and if that's a super-articulated Jango, well it's about time. The wolfman and clone trooper are just goofy though... The new AT-AT Transformer is the shit.
I did manage to snag a Concept Fett, which brings me every figure up to #20.
This is the most lame concoction ever by Hasbro.
There is not one commander in the set (the Jedi were Generals)
and WTF is that silver Sandtrooper doing in there when all the other figures are from ROTS?
It should have been a Clone Commander and a Grunt from each platoon.
Alot more thought when into the Order 66 Two-Packs than these - sad!
Hasbro's just dumping those figures out. Yoda with cannon was a disgrace and it's been put out again and again. I can't wait for the new Kybuck one. It actually looks like Yoda and not some weird Yoda/Gremlin hybrid.
That's sad about the clone's set....they're all peg warmers. Guess I'll use the money for a mando pack, and wait for the arc 170 battle pack coming out.
The C&C Gift Set is a UK exclusive - an abysmal one at that.
I'm just guessing here, but maybe some of these never made it to the UK or were only available in very limited quantities - but still, that doesn't excuse this set from being lame and having a totally misleading title.
I'll be saving my money too - there's plenty of cooler stuff coming out later on...
Lots of coolness coming out of Comic-Con. While the endless repacks and clonetrooper-repaints continue, the new SW Transformers are definately hot ticket, along with new Comic and Evolutions packs... and best of all Hasbro is bringing the detail and articulation of SW2007 to a new Indiana Jones line!
Those Indy figures look excellent. The likenesses could use some work, but I'll be picking up ALL of them. I'm hoping for some playsets and vehicles as well. I need the German Flying Wing, Well Of The Souls and Hovitos Temple.
Hasbro's doing Saga Legends again next year and voting is under way. My top five is as follows:
1. TPM Holographic Darth Sidious - Awesome Emperor, pretty much the only holographic figure I like. I saw this at a local toy store recently for something like $20.
2. Early Bird Chewbacca - This is the ultimate Chewie as far as I'm concerned. The paint job is a notch above the Vintage version and the head is rocking the shit.
3. VOTC Stormtrooper - The removable helmet ones this year look odd. They should have just released the original versions.
4. CW Jedi Knight Army Human Jedi - Want some more of this guy for background Jedi.
5. Coleman Trebor - Awesome looking Jedi and great sculpt. I want more.
I've been limiting myself to the McQuarrie pieces since I moved. Naturally this includes Kotobukiya's $200-of-awesomeness fx statue:
And I broke my rule to pick up Yoda and his steed. This figure is the coolest Yoda ever - he has ear holes cut into his cloak and a holster behind his shoulder for his lightsaber.
I picked up a few items this weekend. Bespin Han Solo with Torture Rack. The figure is poor, but he looks alright on the GREAT accessory. I'm happy to see Hasbro doing cool shit like this rather than more troopers. There's way too many on the shelves this year for my tastes. Also got the Toys "R" Us Arena Encounter Battle Pack. It was just too cool looking to pass up. The three figures of the principal characters pretty much suck, but the beasts look awesome in the window box.
It looks like new/updated duel Obi-Wan and Vader. They would go perfect with that Mustafar Droid and platform. Also digging the weird new Aqualish Separatist guy. NICE to see Hasbro using the Evolutions mold or rather NOT using the terrible ROTS Lightsaber Attack Anakin with the retarded arms. As the Evolutions sets themselves are being re-released, I wish they'd just put out a SA AOTC Pilot. I still don't want to drop $20 on this set for one figure.
From the 2004's Vintage Original Trilogy Collection to the today's 30th Anniversary Collection, the action figgas of today are intricately detailed with super articulation thanks to Hasbro's new ball joint concept. Many of todays figgas come with loads of accessories including removable helmets. In some ways, Hasbro has surpassed McFarlane.
2006's The Saga Collection got a bad rap this year thanks to last year's leftovers. The Saga Collection's Death Star Gunna, Fire Ship Pilot, and Commander Cody gave us a glimpse of this year's awesomeness. The line also included re-releases of such awesome vehicles like the Imperial Shuttle and Endor AT-AT. Window-boxed packaging was used Dagobah X-Wing to show off the included DragonSnake pack-in covered with plastic The Snow Speeder came with awesome Rebel Pilot, and of course there was the Large Scale Tie-Fighter.
[hr]
McQuarrie Vader & Snow Trooper & Pre-Droid Visionaries Grievous
Han Solo Torture Rack
Lando The Smuggler
The Grievous Ship: The Souless One to be released January 2008.
Attack Of The Walkers: AT-AP to be released January 2008. Notice how Hasbro can make a AT-TE using AT-AP parts. Also how does the AT-AP "walk" with three legs?
More Walkers: The Green Kashyyyk Scout Walker BattlePack
Even More Walkers: Target Exclusive Hoth BattlePack with AT-ST
Even Even More Walkers: Target Exclusive Endor BattlePack with AT-ST
Tie Bomber (Target Exclusive) & Tie Interceptor (Toys R Us Exclusive)
One ship I'm definitely getting is the Y-Wing. The vehicle has an awesome window-box, is intricately detailed, and is currently shelf warming alongside last year's awesome Dagobah X-Wing. I may pickup 2 Y-Wings and another Dagobah X-Wing and open up last year's.
The 2007 Y-Wing could be viewed as the Holiday Special Y-Wing since it the same color and Holiday Special Fett was just released along with Luke Skywalker wearing Holiday Special Garb.
Dood, did you just say that Hasbro has surpassed McFarlane?! Honestly? Maybe on accessories, but not on sculpt.
I like some of the ideas that they have, but figure wise, personally, I'm not finding their selection all that attention grabbing. I'm still picking up some things. I'm still looking for a Revan, and I'll pick up that RT Battlepack, along with the ARC 170 battle pack (Tiger clones rock). As for the Y Wing....if it were an exclusive anywhere else, I'd get it....but it's a TRU exlusive, and I saw one in the store 2 days ago....I can't pay $45 for that thing. It's insane...it's a 30 dollar toy, max.
I'd just like to see some newer molds that are Lava Droids.
I'm surprised I posted Star Wars > McFarlane also.
Over at the Spawn.com Boards, most threads are about other non-McFarlane toylines: Transformers, SideShow, and Star Wars. There is a lot of bitching about how the Spawn line went from brittle, prone to break, articulated figures to pre-posed statuettes you sit on your desk as paperweights - that are brittle and prone to break.
What pushed people over the edge is Spawn 30 - the Animated-Style line along with the previous Hanna-Barbera stuff. Last year's Spawn 30 line, Hanna-Barberra, and LOST are still on the shelves. Spawn 31 was a return to horror-style but there were the usual brittle and pre-posed complaints along with a figure recall: The Goddess figure. My GodSlayer from Spawn 31 broke when opening the clamshell.
The rumors are now that articulated figures are coming back. McFarlane still has an awesome 12" line that nobody can't touch. The 12" Twisted Oz should appear in stores soon.
One major issue I have with the Hasbro line is the likenesses of some of the characters. TAC Tatooine Luke and VTSC Bespin Luke have two of the weirdest and ugliest head sculpts ever. Ceremonial Luke is painted like he's dead. Jedi Luke is wearing a bath towel and all around looks like crap. I just don't get why the Luke figures are so poor.
Also, I meant to post that last night I scored a major haul. Recently there were news stories how WalMart was frontloading the Christmas Season by putting everything out early (now). Well our two Super WalMarts were putting out the decorations en masse, playing Christmas Music, and stocking the shelves with toys...
Which means I finally found the stuff I was looking for all year: McQuarrie Fett & McQuarrie Trooper w Light Saber & Shield.
I was absolutely when I seen McQuarrie Fett out front all by himself. The other WalMart where I scored most of the loot I kept checking out the aisle and finding new stuff and on my way out I seen the McQuarrie Trooper. :bankheadbounce2:
Now all the hard-to-find stuff I need is McQuarrie Vader and Visionaries Grievous.
The Score:
• McQuarrie Fett • McQuarrie StormTrooper • McQuarrie SnowTrooper • Animated Television Fett • Smuggler Lando Calrissian • Torture Rack Han Solo
Thanks the heads up VT-16. Hopefully we'll see one in action in the new Clone Wars.
Luke's Yavin and Moisture Farmer headsculpts evoke a from me also. Whats cool about The Anniversary Collection Luke's are the stuff that comes with them. Moisture Farmer Luke comes with an Evaportaor and Yavin Luke comes with Vader's Saber Hilt.
(lifted from Rebelscum)
What I might do is when they go on clearance, buy two Yavin Luke's then put one of the heads on 2007's Moisture Farmer Luke.
The Saga Legends Boba Fett should be in the running for worst packaged figure. All the ones I've seen, he's jammed into the bubble so the rangefinder is bent into his helmet and his rifle is warped.
Well after going out to the Malls, a WalMart and a Target, I finally scored a McQuarrie Vader.
The McQuarrie Vader was the only thing I seen out there. Although the trips were worth it because I seen a couple of very stacked honeys and a black gril wearing pink soffee sweatpants showing off a booty that could shelve all of Waves 5 and Waves 6 put together. Sorry I had to get that in there.
Now that I got most of the figgas I wanted this year I may pickup some of the more easier to find well-sculpted ones: X-Wing Pilot Biggs & Deleted Scenes Biggs, Imperial StormTrooper and Airbourn Trooper, Jawa with Droid, and Mustafar Lava Miner... maybe that bang-a-gong nigga also.
Not sure if anyone here will get this but I hope I don't come off as "Jedimaster22" with the mall grils comment. Also I may have spoke too soon about Hasbro > Mcfarlane.
