Star Wars Symphony for a Saga Fan Score

Postby tlbauerle » May 17th 2005 3:46 pm

To give everyone something to occupy themselves until Wednesday night...I thought I would go ahead and release this now.

Star Wars Symphony for a Saga is a two disc album, a compilation of all six scores, condensed into fifty tracks that for the most part seemlessly blend together. A total of 150 edits have been made to create this work and it is a completely new way of listening to STAR WARS music. All source music has been eliminated with the attempt of keeping this as a symphonic journey.

I released this on OT.com and JWFan.Net over a month ago and the response has been phenominal. Over 500 people have downloaded it so far.

This was done shortly after the ROTS soundtrack was leaked, and I had kept links off high profile sites because I didn't want to attract too much attention. Files are encoded at 192kbs, mp3. The 256k ROTS was used.

I am in the process of revisiting and revising a lot of the album, but thought I would release v1.0 now, in the hope that people can provide feedback so I can edit better. The new release with feature higher quality ROTS section, and I will try and eliminate more tape hiss from AOTC.

For now enjoy at: http://musicofstarwars.tripod.com

The links for the six suites are in YouShareIt form and while they are supposed to be unlimited, I already had to reup TESB once, so if there is a problem, please PM me and I'll get right on it.

Thanks for listening and please let me know what you think.

(NOTE: I figured since so many people have done their own 30 minute version and it has been well received...no one would mind hearing my 130 minute version.)

This is meant to be listened to from beginning to end so burn with Nero and 0 sec gaps or use a media playlist.

Thanks!

:chewbacca:

I'll definitely check it out but I bet LFL and Sony Classical will not be pleased with your efforts.

Well...I haven't been pleased with Sony Classical's efforts. I also plan on cutting video, dialogue and fx to it at somepoint because I wasn't completely impressed with the bonus DVD.

I thought some of the editing was clunky...and the cantina band edit ruined it for me.

Not only the DVD...but I have been unimpressed with Sony Classical on a few things. The UE is terribly cut up despite how great the sound quality is. Then on AOTC the tape his makes my ears bleed. The OT re-release is a joke...ROTS is the best yet, a big improvement.

I think the 20th Century Fox Anthology was much better, and the RCA Victor releases of the SE were outstanding. Sony is the wrong company for this.

As far as ruffling feathers with this, its not the entire thing...there are still hours of music out there...and I can't see how this would cut into sales, really.

they had an UE ready to go for AOTC...it was completely done as I recall, then it was scrapped. This was...what two years ago maybe?

There is a maybe on getting full soundtracks for the PT by next year's holiday season. It doesn't seem to be a priority for them. EDIT: (I mean it took ten years to get the Anthology at first!)

As far as the site goes, its been up for three weeks or so, we'll see what happens....if it gets canned...it will pop up elsewhere.

v2.0 will be released via torrent in FLAC and 320kbs...this is only temporary.

Well I'm going to recut some of this first...which is why I'd like feedback when I re-edit.

Secondly, I'm trying to remaster AOTC since the tape his is unbearable. I wonder if that stupid copy protection has anything to do with that. Man its bad.

Give me a month or so...but this will tie everyone over for now.

Y'know everyone says that about DotF, but its a clean edit...keeps the rhythm...its just an interesting way to key change...and it makes DotF a hell of a lot more interesting to listen to...I'm tired of the concert version the way it is...

Of course I am assuming it is the edit in the middle that sticks out...I think the one at the end could be better.

Funny how that is the only edit people don't like.

AOTC has major tape hiss throughout...put on some headphones and listen to AOTC and any other prequel disc and you'll hear the difference...it drives me up the wall...

Detour...if you have a problem with what LFL or Sony Classical thinks...don't listen. I'm not here to make $$$ off it...its something I wanted to do for me...and then to share. If my hand gets slapped I'll take down the links and email them to people. Its not like it is a purchasable item...

Wow...extreme thank yous to you! There have been quite a few skeptics that have dogged it before a listen, and everyone seems to love it afterward. Glad you liked it so much that this was your first post!!

I just hope we can actually get a DVD of video done to this thing. THAT would be incredible.

Thanks so much...any part(s) that stuck out to you?

Once you unzip the files...each contains mp3 files...so load them on your ipod, or any other media player. Use winzip or winrar to decompress.

Thanks for the continued compliments guys.

Change the file extension to .zip or download them again and add .zip to the file...that should work.

Dem...what is Mozilla, a browser? You should be able to change the file extensions using windows by going to Folder Options and Unhide extensions for known file types...

FB:

I used Acid for the whole thing. I did some subtle panning and volume changes as well as transposing one little bit.

I personally love that edit between Enter Lord Vader and BOTH...

ROTS was extremely easy to cut as I wasn't as attached to the music.

The OT was extremely difficult....I wanted it to be more symphonic and less narrative, but that's not what I got. I also found transitioning easier with the PT because Williams specifically wrote the score for cutting whereas he had a locked film to score for the OT, making some transitions difficult.

Example...in "A New Hope, Part II" I didn't want the DS Fanfare after the burning of the homestead so I inserted the Mos Eisley fanfare and then when back to the emotional aftermath. I couldn't really go straight from one to the other because it just didn't fit with the way he set up the DS Fanfare...

I dont know if that makes sense, but it was really interesting to disect these scores.

I had seen you post your work, tlbaurle, on KMC I think and I was one of those skeptics that didn't want to download it (a 'what's the point' kind of thing). But after giving it a shot tonight I must say bravo, great work and I really enjoyed it, thank you.

This deserves a bump.. great work. Downloaded it all and enjoying it.

Hopefully Williams will do something like Shore and write a symphony of all 6 movies for live performances.
