Episode III Easter Eggs • Continuity Errors • Other Extras

Postby Bantha-Tracks » May 25th 2005 5:28 am

Having seen ROTS a dozen times in the theater since Thursday, Ive noticed a few things. Here's a list of what I noticed in the order they appear. (yes, i understand many of you have noticed many of these, but I have yet to see anyone else list what they saw.)

The Wilhelm Scream: During the space battle, a republic cruiser takes heavy fire, and the turbo laser batteries take the brunt. A turbolaser explodes sending clones flying, one of them screaming The Wilhelm.

Disappearing ships: During the Jedi/Chancellor/Dooku sequence, the space battle can be seen outside the windows. During this time, ships appear, and disappear several times. Dont be confused by the cuts between different windows and different angles.

Tusken Raider yell: After Anakin kills Dooku, and just after Palpatine says "Remember what you told me about your mother, and the sandpeople." a Tusken Raider can be heard to scream.

The Millenium Falcon/YT1300 Stock Light Frieghter: As Obi Wan, Anakin and Palpatine arrive at the senate building on the airbus, after the rescue, just as the airbus comes into land, at the bottom of the screen, right side about 2/3rds across the screen a certain 'peice of junk' that's 'got it where it counts' appears coming for a landing. A second YT1300 can be seen taking off.

Female protocol droid: After the airbus lands, in the wide shot of the jedi and chancellor disembarking, on the left side of the screen there is a green painted female protocol droid standing with C3P0, and two other 3P0 units, one white, one silver.

Lucas daughters: As Palpatine and Mace Windu discuss the current situation, Amanda Lucas is seen, painted blue and blinking 30 times in 20 seconds, over Palpatines shoulder, right side of screen. Lucas' other daughter, whose name escapes me, is over Palpatines other shoulder.

Lucas himself: In the Opera House, Anakin runs up the stairs and then we see him running to the Chancellors private viewing box. Just outside the viewing box door, is Lucas, painted blue talking to Amanda Lucas, also blue.

General Grievous' Lightsabers: When Grievous fights Obi Wan, the four lightsaber hilts he uses are all major character lightsabers. Grievous uses:

Obi Wan Kenobi's Episode III and IV Lightsaber (Blade is green, not blue)
Anakin Skywalker's Episode II Lightsaber (Blade is correct blue)
Qui Gon Jinn's Episode I Lightsaber (Blade is correct green)
Darth Sidious' Episode III Lightsaber (Blade is Blue, not Red)

If you notice, the greensabers are Master/Padawan (QuiGon/ObiWan) and the Blue sabers are Master/Apprentice (Sidious/Skywalker) This is my favorite Easter Egg.

In the Jedi Purge sequence Adi Gallia is riding an ROTJ speederbike when she is killed.

Jet Lucas: Jet Lucas is the Young Jedi Padawan killed at the Jedi Temple as Bail Organa watches.

Things I havent been able to find.

Rob Coleman, SFX supervisor has a cameo in the Opera House scene.
1138 is supposed to be referenced, but perhaps cut.
Rick McCallum and Ben Burt supposedly have cameos.

I think Rob Coleman is seen on the left side of the screen during the first shot facing the area where Palpatine is seated.

John Knoll is visible on upper left of the screen while Palpatine is speaking to Anakin.

Not sure about McCallum or Burtt, though...

Katie Lucas is the one painted blue, Amanda Lucas is the one over Palpatine's other shoulder.

Also, Mousy McCallum, Rick's daughter, is one of the Jedis seen in the security recordings.

Continuity: In the opening battle General Grievous shatters the front glass on the bridge to escape. A metal barrier slides into place to stop the bridge from decompressing. If the metal barrier had just withdrawn everyone on the bridge would be being buffeted around to an insane degree by inrushing wind.

Are you sure the "Tusken Raider" isn't just a TIE sound? There's a lot of fighter flyby's in that scene.

Also, how about the metal Pleasure Droid that was seen in the Art of Revenge pics? She's visible for half a second to the left of Lucas.

I think it was due to editing of the scene. IIRC, the novel has a point where they are fighing with each other's sabers.

when it cuts back to Anakin it is very well possible that Obi wan pushed it to the side with his foot.

When I saw the film last night, I think I saw the Medical Spire where they put Darth Vader together during Mace's "I don't trust him" scene with Obi-Wan and Yoda. It looked like they flew by it. I haven't been able to check it though. I think it was during Obi-Wan's "He is not going to destroy the Sith and bring balance" line.

A real easter egg...

Right before the scene where yoda avoids order 66 and chops off the two clones heads.

There is a shot with a clone tank driving twords you. It has a red trapazoid type shape on the front of it. The tank then takes lazer fire damage, and the damage that is left is clearly the head of yoda with the red trapazoid forming his upper body.

Another easter egg:

Mace Windu, Kit Fisto, Saesee Tiin, and Agen Kolar take off to arrest the chancellor. When that clone ship is about 3 feet off the ground, you can hear the Han Solo carbonite freezing process from TESB.

Did anybody else recognize this?

Is there such a thing a Ben Burtt being lazy? This is the guy who would probably run home from his mums funeral just to record the sound of the coffin being lowered...

thats what i was thinking. my very first impression of this movie was that the sounds were just unbelieveable. they blew me away!

obi/anis fighters
GG's vehicle
the staffs GGs guards have
IH crashing
SBD voices

only thing i didn't like about hte sound was GGs voice. they should have made it more mechanical.. like in the clone wars cartoons.

Traiken. You talking about the sound that his podracer's onboard computer made when both his engines were once again operational? 'Cause that's there as well when we see his targeting computer (which, as shown in the BTH image) is the same as the one on the OT TIE fighters.

I think he means GGs 2 blue sabers' hilts belong to a set of Master and Apprentice (Sidious & Anakin) and the 2 green ones' hilts belong to another set of Master and Apprentice (Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan), though it took me a minute to figure out what he was saying as well. :)

the tusken raider sounds are supposed to be in there, it's right after Palps talks about Anakin's mom and the sandpeople. It's just a little reminder to the audience, and probably the first thing that came up in Anakin's mind as well.

one i noticed, that's similar to the Mace / Palps mistake is at the beginning when the droids have brought Obi-Wan and Anakin to Grievous, and GG is talking down to Anakin saying something like "i would have thought you to be much older" etc, the camera is facing Anakin's back and before it changes angles, you see Anakin turn his head to face Grievous'...
but then it cuts to the front of his face and he turns his head again, to face GG as he throws out the line "you're much shorter than i thought" etc.

I think he turned his head away from GG when he started coughing, and then turned it back to say his line.

His head turns a lot in that scene I noticed anyway. He seems to be looking at Obi-wan and R2, because he's just waiting for the perfect moment to escape, but we're beginning to nitpick and sound like TFN'ers.

---

Anyway, it was either the second or third time I spotted Pablo Hidalgo. I forgot he had a cameo. Did you guys find him? At the zoomed out shot when showing the many private booths at the opera, you can see him walking below the booths, near the bottom of the screen from left to right, similar to the Belle cameo in The Hunchback of Norte Dame. (Yeah, I used to be into Disney films. )

And another cameo I enjoyed was Don Bies. He's under the main pod where Palpatine is speaking about turning the Republic into an Empire. I think you can spot him right after the scene showing Anakin's yellow eyes.

Did anyone notice the return of Padme's magical all-purpose button on board her Naboo cruiser? For those who don't know what I speak of... it was much criticized in AOTC, when Padme presses one single button over and over for an endless variety of ship's functions. Well... Lucas really does have a good sense of humor, because in ROTS she hits the same exact damn button when taking off for Mustafar.

It´s the giant landers from TPM, they look like old bi-planes. Read the SW dictionaries, for fucks sake.

Does this "spiderlike creature" have any significance?

Of course it has, that´s why it´s in the easter eggs-thread. :meatwad:

here another big mistake.

Vaders mask is lowering down, you see his eyes turn on.
Before this he has NO neck seal on.

When you see the mask lowering from the top, like magic the neck seal is there.

It's even worse than that. Three shots in order are totally different, not just two. The neck seal is inside the shoulderpiece when the mask comes down, then as the helmet is placed on, the neck is over the shoulderpiece.

It's a little hard to tell in that pic (I used my camera) but that Clone has the yellow markings, like Bly and his troopers on Felucia.
Maybe it's a giant grub creature from Felicia?
