I just saw Batman Begins, and WOW. It is the BEST SUPERHERO MOVIE EVER!(caps). Im sorry spidey, you're still my favorite superhero. But your movies have dropped down to second place. Im just dissapointed it took this long to get it right! You may have your own opinion on this movie but i thought it was flawless. And the ending hints you at whats to come....

Anyone else blown away by this movie?

Hell yes, I have to say, and you will probably hate me (and don't get me wrong I LOVED EPIII), but Batman Begins is now my #1 movie of the year. It did everything perfectly, the pacing was flawless and the twist suprise was excellent. I didn't spoil myself for this movie and I'm glad, it made it really payoff, and I love the setup for the sequel.

I just hope all the principles come back for the sequel.

the scenes with the hallucinigenic effect from the gas were totally authentic. Speaking as one who has had some deep acid trips, I felt like I was on acid watching those sequences. Shit, when Crane was looking at Batman, I'm surprised the movie got a "PG-13" rating. The people doing the effects had to have first hand knowledge to get it that authentic.

I grew up a pretty big Batman fan. I liked the 1989 film and I liked a lot of the sets in the second film that Burton did.

I found the movie to be boring. It was just that things lagged a lot. Things in this film are literally spelled out for the viewer. I would have preferred faster editing for much of the film. The Katie Holmes shit was retarded. A lot of the stuff in the film seemed to cater to that one asshole that always has to ask “where does he get those wonderful toys?” I just felt that they spent too much time justifying and spinning things to make them seem real or possible rather then making a good film. There was nothing fun about the film. I understand that Batman has a lot of brooding, but it doesn’t make a film for me. I liked the first half of the film a lot more than the second.

Now, if the sequels come and payoff big time, then ride-on! I admire the investment. But as it stands, one it’s own, I wasn’t too impressed. I mean, yeah, that’s pretty much the story I remember. I don't feel I got anything from the film that a comic didn't give me when I was eight.

Maybe I grew up with the lore and that’s why nothing really excited me about the film. I have to admit that I feel pretty weird about not being into it. By all accounts, I feel I should have loved it. I thought I would have too; I was out there at midnight with a bunch of superfriends who feared a Tsunami that never came.

I think I have to see this again. I was bored way too much. Maybe I was in one of my moods.

I saw it yesterday, not having really followed any pre-production spoilers or really any idea of what to expect.

Overall I thought it was quite good...nice and dark, mostly believable storyline, and pretty good acting throughout.

A few minor complaints:

Katie Holmes was a waste...could have done without her
A bit slow to start...took about 30 minutes to really get going, it was quite a long movie though!
Michael Caine's comedy wasn't that great (I couple hits, but mostly misses)
The last 1/4 of it was a little too over the top...I realize this was a story based on comics, the first 3/4's was pretty realisitic, but kinda switch to comic book mode towards the end
Batman didn't seem to mind if he hurt some policemen in the cars chasing him at all
Christian Bale's delivery of lines (only while in costume) didn't work for me

Some Likes:
Again, good storyline, and believable for the most part.
Morgan Freeman, Rutger Hauer, Linus Roache, Gary Oldman, and Cillian Murphy were all EXCELLENT in this film...Christian Bale was really good too (I really enjoyed him in Equilibrium), but again the way he lowered his voice/delivered his lines while being batman wasn't too hot, IMHO.
A very dark superhero story, gotta love that!
The Batcave was pretty good as well.

I really liked the line/exchange between Morgan/Michael/Christian when he was recovering from the toxin's in his bedroom and had just woken up from a 48 hour nap. Classic!

Come on, man. That review's so filled with inaccuracies that it's kind of obvious he didn't even see the movie, and this was the clincher:

He either read an outline of the screenplay, or had some pissant go and take notes for him. Additionally, referring to Memento as "overrated" and "mind-bending" makes it pretty clear that not only did he have an agenda to serve here, but also that he's a fucking idiot.

It might be better than X2. I love the way they set up the sequel. Just a kick ass movie. This is how you do an origin story.

Caught it yesterday myself, with the wife. I thought it was well done, on par with the Spiderman flicks and better than any of the previous Batman films. The Microwave Emitter annoyed me though, that thing should have killed everyone around it faster than it boiled the water in the mains... aside from that it was a good flick. I too liked the whole fear aspect, and delving into his psyche more. Loved Liam in it too.

Well I know that Jack Nicholson's Joker was above all movie villains (except Vader of course). But the series HAD to be remade after Schmacher fucked it all to hell. The thing is that Burton never really told an origin story. Yeah, they had the murder of Bruce's parents but that was it really. I like the thought that went into "Begins" to make it an origin from Waynes psyche to the suit to the Batmobile. I think it all works so well.

In the beginning I did not have high expectations for Batman Begins. I just felt that it was going to add to the pile of already flopped batman films. I gave the movie its fair chance however and man was a blown away. That movie is fricken amazing.

Now the only hope I had for the movie was that I had hung out with Mark Boone Junior on the set of The Legend of Lucy keyes and he had indicated to me about batmanbegins and how he enjoyed what he had known of the story and that it was very dark. He really didnt want to let me in on too many plot details, so I didnt pry. He told me about his past with chris Nolan and he was approached to play the character Flass because Chris enjoyed working with him on memento. It was fun to see Boone in such a feature. Flass is the corrupt detective who was hung upside down by batman haha.

I do agree with most here, Spiderman definitely takes the #2 seat. Batman was just approached in such a great manner. It is how all of the comic book movies should have been made. I cannot wait to see where they take this movie franchise in the future..... just for the love of god dont replace the batman actor in like every sequel lol. I am hopeful that they do the same thing for Superman as they did for this Batman movie.

Absolutely agree with you there. Katie Holmes was the one weak point in the story.

I have never felt as good about the relationship between Alfred and Bruce. They seem almost father and son in this movie and that's the way it should be.

My thoughts exactly, i know Alfred is suppose to be old and such...but they should be careful with whom they choose. People don't live for ever and it will be awhile before the sequel comes out. Im predicting june 2008...one can only hope everything goes right.....

I thought he movie was brilliant in being morose and dark, Katie Holmes did not need to be in it though. If you took her part out, the movie still could have functioned well with some script editing.

That's funny. The Riddler is my favorite Batman villian.

I think Batman Begins is by far the best Batman movie technically, but Batman Forever is my favorite. Probably because I grew up watching the TV series and have absolutely no attachment to the comics at all. Batman Forever had a definite sense of fun that was completely lacking in the latest incarnation.

Batman and Robin, however, is complete tripe.

Crispin Glover is 41. Younger than Penn, sure, but still 10 years older than Bale.

My money's on Guy Pearce. He's playing Andy Warhol in Factory Girl (the movie that Katie Holmes' fake boyfriend claims to have never heard of), so the Joker shouldn't be much of a stretch afterward.

I also think that you're unlikely to see any kind of stunt casting in general, as long as Christopher Nolan is involved. It's too reminiscent of the Burton/Schumacher series, which he seems to be taking pains to avoid evoking.

I watched Batman Forever yesterday and it's hard to believe that it is (was) one that people thought was still pretty good.

I enjoyed it and think a reboot of the series was in order after seeing how well they handleed this one.

I didn't mind Katie like I thought I would, but you could have cut this character out. I do agree with most of you there.

I like how they showed he was not perfect and actualy got hurt on his missions at night.

All in all a great movie. Looking forward to the next.

I have to agree that while Jack did play the Joker perfectly in the way that he was presented in "Batman", it really wasn't the 'true' Joker. You need someone that is younger (on par with Bale in age roughly) and who is a beanpole. The Joker isn't in any way, shape or form physically imposing. He's the kind of guy that would be beaten up in any other circumstance, which highlights just how dangerous he really is.

And he should be played as he really is, the ultimate manic depressive and the epitome of "criminally insane" in that there is no sane nor cognisant thought that passes through his head.

I just got back from seeing Batman Begins in Imax and it was awesome!

I'm still hearing the music in my head.

They could have done without Katie Holmes though.

I enjoyed Jack Nicholson in the other Batman movies, but they definitely need a younger Joker for the new ones.

Neeson, Caine, Oldman, Freeman, etc., etc., etc., were all fantastic.

For me the highpoint was the Tumbler chase on the rooftops. I'm not a carchase plus explosions type individual but this was fucking awesome. The whole Bruce Wayne being a front for the the Batman worked for me. The lowpoints were the hand to hand combat sequences. It's like they just showed us snapshots.
