Removing Western influence isnt the answer. These little groups shouldnt be able to dictate what people in Middle Eastern countries get to influenced by. Many people there are happy with Western influence. Why remove it simply to appease a small groups of troublemakers who care not for the opinions of the greater part of their compatriots?

Much as I agree the way forward is not with fighting, but with dialogue and peaceful actions, completely wilting and giving these groups all they ask is not the answer. Especially not when these people have little regard for anyone that doesnt see things their way (non-extremist compatriots), and would likely take advantage of the situation for their own good, and not that of the Middle Eastern region as a whole.

I never said its harmless, I said its unclear how harmful it really is. Which is exactly what the article that was linked to said. Unless something is regulated and has some sort of editorial process it is in no way a valid reference (and no, just because it is "self-regulating" does not cut it any more than a generic web page does, and if in doubt I'd suggest you go have a look at some of Wikipedia's SW related entries, there are some massively glaring errors in them).


And as a lesson in educating your dumb arse, "Western" countries are those that are of the classification of "First World" countries with political leanings that are in line with that of capitalism region of the political spectrum.

The 'official' demarkation of a "First World" country is defined by a mix of it's GDP, population, government, industrialisation and a few other factors. It's been too long since I have had to study anything that was linked to political/economic definitions so I'm a bit rusty on it, but it mainly refers to Northern America, the UK, large amounts of Europe (especially now with the advent of the EU), Russia and a couple of the former Soviet states, and a few of the Oceanic members of the British Commonwealth. As far as I can remember India and Taiwan if it escapes from Chinese control and gains full independance were the only Asian countries that were approaching "First World" standards a few years ago (although both have separate but large stumbling blocks from reaching that point).


Nowdays in general terms "Western" is used to identify the major capitalist based countries around the entire world, not just one tiny section of the globe.

So go and actually learn a little bit about what you are going to be talking about before typing away at your keyboard and proving to us all just how stupid you really are.

And what praytell is the western hemisphere since you can arbitrarily draw any line you like down the globe? If you actually take a look at most maps they use the IDL as the centre of the map, thus making Australia, Eurasia and Africa the 'western' hemisphere, and the Americas the 'eastern' hemisphere.

The terminology comes from the sociopolitical divide in Europe where the "Eastern Bloc" countries were those that were under the general rule of Communism and thus lied on the eastern end of Europe and butting onto Russia, whereas the "Western Bloc" countries were the UK, France, Holland, Spain, etc. all residing in the western section of the European continent.
