Downloading Zion's ROTS DVDR Newsgroup Guide II

4.36 GB download, requires another 4.36 of space to "unzip".


1. Download Grabit:http://www.shemes.com/download_latest_release.php


2. Install it like normal, when this screen comes up make sure it associates with .nzb files.






3. When it asks to enter your newsserver, use this page to figure out your ISP's newsserver, and enter the address into the box:






4. "Retrieve grouplist from server when I click Finish?" Uncheck the box (if you want).






5. The program will open.

*Want to change where your downloads go? Click Edit > Preferences > FOLDERS > and point to the area where you want to save it. Otherwise everything will be downloaded to C:\Program Files\GrabIt\Download\ or whatever.

6. Right Click > Save > Open

It should open in Grabit and your download will begin!

HOW TO OPEN .RAR FILES
The download is 100% complete you say? Great!

Now, find the area of your hard drive that you saved it to in the first place.

Inside will be a collection of wacky files ending in .r01 or part01.rar, etc

These are Rar files and you need Winrar to open them.

You can download Winrar from their website right here: http://rarlab.com/rar/wrar342.exe

Install Winrar, then double click one of these files (.r01 or .rar whatever). After a little waiting Winrar will open. Choose the option "Extract files" and select where on your hard drive you want to put Revenge of the Sith.

Wait a few minutes to extract and you are done!

FWIW: Zion's files are the only ones that have been updated on a.b.starwars all day. So if for any reason you're having trouble with Faid's .nzb instructions, you ought to be able to pull up the newsgroup the standard way and find the files pretty easily.

Does it work if you have SBC as your ISP cause wasn't there a thread stating that SBC's newsnet server would not show any media files.

Ah, that explains why it hasn't shown on news.sf.sbcglobal.net; guess I'll have to wait for the .torrent then. No prob.

I would imagine you were getting to this when you said to check back later, but could you offer another dumby-proof step on how we queue additional parts? I show only 23 listed when I click that file, but as of now it appears 38 parts are available.

I figured out how to do a GrabIt search to keep getting parts as they are uploaded, but apparently there is a daily search limit. After doing three searches in 24 hours, I received this message:

"You have reached the maximum amount of free GrabIt Search actions for today with this Internet connection. Please visit http://shemes.com to register for unlimited searches for only 6 cents a day."

Can someone tell me how to either continue doing searches without paying any money or how I can use a workaround to add the parts to my batch?

Also, I think that the nzb of parts 45 through 74 is missing part 69.

The whole thing's finished uploading on my end and YPP tells me that all parts were uploaded successfully.

Once I got passed part80, I encountered an error saying that for VOB 1_4 and 2_1 were corrupt. When I did a search for the files again today, I read someone saying: "Part 81 messed up on multiple servers"

As I took the nzb that was posted here, I initially downloaded most parts from alt.binaries.dvdr. I am now trying alt.binaries.starwars. Hopefully I can find a non-corrupt version. (I also tried downloading part81 from alt.binaries. dvdr again, but second download was also corrupt.)

Anyone else having any problems with these later parts? If so, how did you fix the mistake.

I think that sounds correct, I'm new to DVD burning so someone else could answer the question better than I can.

As you may know, most disc burning programs provide templates for burning different formats of CDs - they should provide templaes for DVDs as well. It's simply a matter of putting the contents of the VIDEO_TS directory into whereever the program of your choosing points you to.

You can also simply burn the three folders as a data DVD afaik, just as long at the two "_TS" directories are there and that the vob and ifo files themselves are in the VIDEO_TS directory.

Well, one last time: Thank you Faid for the help. I got the disc to work using Nero. I selected DVD disc, then said DVD video and went from there.

Of course, thanks Zion for the great job. Menus are fantastic, and finally I have a version with proper audio channels and correct aspect ratio.

I followed this guide and it all works out up until the last part. When I load up the file and it sets up all the .rars to download they all download at insane speeds (each file downloads at over 1000KBs every time) and it shows no blue progress bar only the green. Once it's all done I have nothing with the exception of a bunch of 0 byte txt files that do nothing. I know it's not my server as I'm able to download other things. I tried to manually find the rars on a.b.starwars but no matter what filters i set or dont set I always only get 10-30 files listed.

Anyone else have this kind of problem?

If you've already got the DVD-ROM folder on your hard drive, there's no need to burn it to disc. There's nothing in there that the disc needs in order to play.

So far I've only had time to view parts of it on my laptop with winDVD. Hope to burn it to a DVD later this week.

Grabit downloads files as txt documents in the Cache folder. After the file has been downloaded completely, Grabit "decodes" the txt documents and makes them Rar files in the Download folder.

I looked into the problem a few people have. So far the common traits involve speeds like 1700Kbs+, the missing of a progress bar and ending up with 0kb txt files. I had the same problems and looked into it on the GrabIt forums and apparently theres a problem that causes all that and it's caused by GrabIt's inability to strip HTML from .nzb files.

It turns out their work around is to well... live with it. Would there be any other free/shareware newsgroup programs that can import nzb files and also strips them of HTML?

Try this and tell me what happens:

My ISP is Bellsouth (newsgroups.bellsouth.net) and I'm using GrabIt. Under the article sections of alt.binaries.dvdr and alt.binaries.starwars, only par06-23 are available for download. When I perform a search I can see all the necessary par files but I can't seem to download those outside par06-23. The program states that the article is not on the server. Anyone have any idea what could be the problem?

If I open the .nzb files provided above, I get the same message about the article not being on the server.
