I don't think this is the pod Yoda took from Kashyyyk. The interiors and sizes look different. But I'm not sure.

It does look like Yoda is using the pod he left Kashyyk in and that is what we see him arriving in on Dagobah. I like what i see here. A very lonely depiction of life for Yoda. Although, I did hope to see his ship depart the Tantive IV or medical facility to begin the journey.

FYI, in my opinion, that is NOT the same Pod that yoda escapes Kash with... it's larger, and designed different.

I think it's safe to assume that the pod Yoda is in on Dagobah is most likely from the Tantive IV.

I thought they would have used the same escape pod as in ANH.
Obviously it's not the case.

Yoda and his pods in ROTS really are tributes to Spielberg's E.T.
The first time I saw Yoda taking off from Mustafar I thought I heard the theme from ET ... I realized it was Yoda's theme on second viewing.

That cut dagobah scene screengrab has exactly the same ET feel to it ...

According to one of the movie factbooks, he made his hut with parts of a "Republic-era ship". This is most likely parts of the escape pod. (A ROTS factbook noted that the one he takes to Dagobah is hyperspace-capable, so the Tantive never actually went there.)

But in ROTS, we see the Tantive IV land on Naboo (after the birth of the twins and Vader), and we see Yoda, Obi-Wan and Bail talking. So how could Yoda get to Dagobah on a Polis Massan ship if he already left?

Seeing as the scene was cut I'm guessing the original idea of the conversation took place elsewhere, and it was re-edited accordingly

Or maybe a Polis Massa super-freighter accompanied them to Alderaan.

Or maybe Yoda finished the conversation, took an escape pod from the blockade runner, went back to Polis Massa and then proceeded to Dagobah.

But what if he actually stole the TIE fighter prototype, had a drink with a wookiee, then went to Dagobah via Polis Massa by mistake!?


More to the point ... how did Obi Wan get to Tatooine!?!?! We don't actually see it on screen!!!

It's now in the starwars.com databank and uses the Polis Massan freighter story for the EU explanation. I'd say the best reasoning is that they went back to Polis Massa after the trip to Naboo. The Tantive IV was making the rounds throughout Episode III, it's not too far-fetched. But clearly, in cutting the Dagobah scene and/or re-arranging the end scene montage, the Tantive IV conversation that takes place during the arrival at Naboo was originally meant to take place beforehand. Or I assume anyway.

Carrying grain to starving inhabitants of the Separatist stronghold of Sluis Van, the ship briefly dropped out of hyperspace just outside Dagobah's solar system. Launching his escape pod undetected and unrecorded, Yoda headed for his gloomy new home. With no hyperdrive aboard, the escape pod was used for a one-way journey.

Exposure to the elements of Dagobah ruined the sensitive electronic systems of the vehicle within a year. Yoda salvaged what he could from the craft, using scavenged elements as part of a crude yet comfortable hut built near a lagoon. The hut's foundation was crafted from the pod's hull plates, while its thruster rings formed the door and window frames, and luminescent elements from the gravity compensators formed the lights to Yoda's hut.

Okay just watched this scene on the DVD, and I must say I'm impressed, not like before when I saw it ripped onto the computer. It is a beautiful scene... but yeah, I agree with its cut. We don't need to see where Yoda ends up. Plus it is more powerful seeing the endings of the mother, father, and children.

Well, he was right in what he said (something along the lines of showing the fates of the mother, the father and the children). I guess it would've felt kind of out of place. But no more out of place than throwing Tarkin into the mix.

Is it just me or is there a little too much wildlife on Dagobah? I never really noticed but I don't recall so much in TESB or ROTJ. I guess maybe Yoda scared them off by that time. Or maybe he had to eat them.

I always took that to mean quantity, not few very large things.

The Dagobah scene is nearly perfect up until the door opens and we see Yoda. I don't know, it looks good, but it just doesn't feel too right to me.

And yeah, Dagobah had lots of wildlife in ESB. Every scene you would see something in the background flying, and some snake crawling around.

I'm actually cool with Lucas' justification of cutting the Yoda scene. What he says makes sense. On the other hand, you could clearly argue that we get to see where Obi and Bail go, so we should get to see where Yoda goes. I don't have a strong opinion either way.

Good scene, but not necessary I guess. The most powerful ending image for me is Obi-Wan turning around and leaving, far more emotional than the Yoda scene.

The thing is the Dagobah scene has Yoda actually onscreen for only seconds. Tarkin would have more screen time in the closing scenes had it not been deleted.

Better that it was not included. All yoda needed was a potted flower in his hands and a glowing heartlight.

That's actually a good idea.
