Episode I DVD Re-Release • Potential Changes

Postby Zéyann » April 4th 2005 4:18 am

From Richard Kim at the Home Theater Forum:

Friday, October 31, 2003

ILM: As promised on the [Ep. III] set, Lucas has cut together and turned over seven brief Yoda scenes [for Ep. III], which amount to ninety-eight shots, for Coleman and his animation team to get started on.

"I'm in a very good place right now," Coleman says. In fact, his department has nearly finished replacing the Episode I Yoda puppet with digital Yoda—an exercise that Lucas and Coleman agreed would serve as a good warm-up—so the animation department is now primed and ready for Yoda's Episode III performance.

I'll wait until the final (if that's even a word in lucas's vocabulary) DVD editions of all 6 films and the whole shabang. I don't know when that'll be coming out - people say 2007, but nobody really knows.

in all honesty, i think that the final versions will be the ones that are released right before lucas dies...since he'll be working on them until then.

So, are the backs of the DVD covers any different? I hate the copy from the TPM back. I had hoped they'd change it.

Celebration III is supposed to be screening all 5 SW movies. I wonder if TPM print will have the updated Yoda? It's a perfect event to reveal it along with any other changes that may have been made. Unless they want to save it for a future DVD release.

So this is surprising...how? Was it ever advertised as being any different? I mean, the things are selling for like $11.99, what did you expect?

People bitch when there are changes and bitch when there aren't.

If they released a changed version now LFL would be 'milking it for all it's worth', but they're not so now they're 'cheap bastards' for saving it for a real release. I LOVE THE INTERNET! :heavymetal:

and yeah lucasfilm are too cheap bastards that will save it for future "ultimate" dvd release

That's fucking bullshit.

The "cheap bastards" are the those studios that keep cranking out DVD after DVD of the same movies: "Sleepless in Seattle" followed by "Sleepless in Seattle, the Collector's Edition" followed by "Sleepless in Seattle, the SuperBit 2-Disc Special Edition with Extra Scenes You've Never Seen Before" followed by "Sleepless in Seattle, the 10th Anniversary Edition."

THEY are cheap bastards, not Lucas for holding off and releasing it when he's ready.

4 releases since the advent of home video.

Not 4+ releases since the latest video format came out.

My point during my earlier rant was that there have been far more DVD releases of individual minor movies since the late 90's than there have been of the Star Wars movies since the early 80's.

If Lucas is the lying money-grubbing motherfucker miser some folks think he is, then there would be 30 different releases of each Star Wars movie since the beginning of the DVD format.

Instead, he puts them out when he feels the time is right, and when he wants to, not when 20th Century Fox decides to fudge out another bare bones pixelized pressing just for shits and giggles.

One minute, the videophile jerk-offs say that Lucas "hates" the DVD format, even though American Graffitti was on DVD a long time ago, then they bitch because TPM wasn't released on DVD in 1999, then they bitch when it is released on DVD, then they create a grand geek petition to put out the OT on DVD, then bitch and call him a stingy bastard for releasing them at all.

Imagine if Star Wars had not yet appeard in any video format. I wonder what names he would be called then...

Yeah, that was pretty stupid. I like the Digital Bits website, but that was total crap thinking that they single-handedly caused the release of Star Wars on DVD.

Well, I, for one, am impressed that they were able to cause the inevitable.

I'm gonna start a petition that will end any release of the original films, in their original non-CGI format, on VHS!!!1!

What a ridiculous thing to petition for? Why not petition for better wages, or to save Enterprise, or better yet to reshoot Aayla Secura topless in EPIII?

Why petition for something that is so obviously inevitable? You might as well petition the Sun to rise tomorrow...

Anybody have an update on whether or not CGI Yoda has replaced that ridiculous looking imposter puppet in Phantom Menace?? I ask, because I was just watching 'The Chosen One' documentary on ROTS Disc 2 and lo and behold...they showed CGI Yoda uttering the lines "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering". I blinked and thought 'Holy Frak!'. Can anyone confirm whether or not CGI Yoda is in this new version of TPM, released today to coincide with ROTS???

I would imagine that Lucas will do Special Editions of the prequels. But I doubt they would show up individually...especially now....they would have made a craze about it. Maybe with the ultimate 6 disc 'anthology' where he updates them all AGAIN???

I remember them saying that shots were made with Bail Organa for new senate scenes in TPM...I wonder if they are also being done.

Heard anything about stuff in the OT, Tern?

I can remember Lucasfilm sources saying "some Stormtroopers will have re-recorded lines by Temura Morrison", but that's the only thing that's gotten out so far.

There was the "Hoth-expansion" that seemingly fell through for the 2004 DVD set (some possible additions can be seen in "Inside The Worlds of the Original Trilogy") It might be given a try for the next big set, goodness knows they have more than enough experience to do several shots with CG walkers.

Anyone got any other rumors?

Everyones guess is as good as the others. I dnt think there is any concrete evidnece at all regarding possible changes to any of the films. I really widh GL wud just come out in a press conference and tell us what he plans to do. I hate all this speculating. They rushed he 04 box set so they need to vamp that up a bit cox it's awfull.
