The TV series spin-off of the Stars Wars film franchise will run to at least 100 episodes, according to producer Rick McCallum.

McCallum told BBC Radio 1 the writing team would soon be meeting to start on the project, which would begin filming in 2008 and be ready the same year.

LIVE-ACTION SERIES

McCallum: "Hopefully if we can make it work and everybody's excited and watches it we will keep on going"

The series will be set between episodes three and four of the film saga. It would cover the 20 years in the life of Luke Skywalker growing up that remains a mystery to most film-goers. McCallum said there would be "a whole bunch of new characters" and the series would be "much more dramatic and darker". He added that it was unlikely any of the stars of the movies would be involved in the TV series.

RED TAILS

Star Wars creator George Lucas has just completed writing the script for the next Indiana Jones film and will then begin work on Red Tails, about African-American pilots in World War II.

Following completion of that film, work will begin on the Star Wars TV series

There has already been a Star Wars series spin-off in the shape of the animated Clone Wars, which began as three-minute episodes before they were expanded to 30-minute shows.

MF.com Star Wars TV Content Area: http://www.millenniumfalcon.com/index.php?page=2007

For the time being the Star Wars Television forum is featured on MF.com frontpage sorta. When you make a new thread it shows up up on the front page's STAR WARS TV area. So please keep new threads "news-oriented".

Eventually there were will be a dedicated Star Wars TV News Forum under the "FrontPage" category. When that happens this forum will become a discussion forum not unlike the Episode III forum. :schoolyou:

Thanks to those who are posting new threads for TV Show news items. :)

I just don't see how it's going to work. The whole point of the first movie (being IV) was that Luke was 'Tatooine-stuck' and only heard about the whole Empire/Rebellion thing in stories/friends, a whole SERIES dedicated to Luke stuck there just won't work, unless you fuck with StarWars lore - which again, ruins the whole introduction of Tatooine and Luke in the first movie.

Why not, stick a TV series that Occus after ROTJ and feature a grizzled Mark Hamill setting up a new Jedi Order, or don't mess with the "traditional" StarWars timeline and set it during the successful Knights of the old Republic setting.

I would not be as interested in seeing a TV series post ROTJ w/ old Luke and his doings because I feel I got 3 good movies concerning some important events in his life. Sure he had other times of glory, but I got enough of his story. Not ENOUGH, but enough in that I’m pleased w/ those 3 movies and hope to see something fresh to me = not the continuing of key characters stories already well told. I’m more interested in the telling of minor characters stories and how their lives may fit into the scheme of themes. The butterfly effect. I enjoy seeing how a small not much thought of action can influence the bigger picture. And who better but minor characters to be that catalyst. In my experience, that is real life. But I suspect you are in good company and many others would also enjoy seeing Luke later in life.

Don't think the series will have anything to do with Luke, just the period he grew up in, i.e "the Dark Times".

As for post-ROTJ, I just want a cool adaption/remake of Dark Empire as an animated series. Have Mark Hamill do voice-work and everything.
