World Trade Center - Oliver Stone's 9.11 Film

Postby The_Somnambulist » May 17th 2006 6:17 pm

The first trailer for Oliver Stone's 9/11 film, World Trade Center, was released recently:

http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/wtc/

It's a very beautiful looking film. Nice wide shots and a good variety of visuals. As opposed to the trailer for the other 9/11 film, United 93, which felt too crack-handedly shot, too rapidly cut and generally too claustrophobically designed to leave any major impression, especially since it's a film which covers such a significant event. Anyway, the film seems to feature Cage, the latino dude from Crash and a group of police/firemen most prominently as they gradually learn about the attack and arrive to assist other civilians on that fateful day. It's apparently based on a true story.

Basically, it all looks good except for some unusually sentimental dialogue that's delivered by Cage at the end, as he and his friend are buried under rubble.

Ohhh, opinions... What do you think?

You know, I think they made this movie way too early. I really don't want to relive that day again - its too sad for me. This is a movie needed for the next generation - for those people who did not watch, live on TV, the absolutely astounding vision of those two towers filled with people disintergrating before our eyes.

I'll pass on this one for that very reason.

Looks sappy and unnecessary. We all watched it happen. We saw the buildings come down and kill thousands. And this was only like 5 years ago and we're making films about it starring Nicholas Cage with a moustache? Hollywood sucks.

I doubt this movie's gonna be good... I mean, they made a story around 9/11 with heroes?! how weird is that?!

How many films have we gotten on WWII, Pearl Harbor, etc? I personally am looking forward to seeing this after the suckage that was Flight 93. If it's too early for some people, then just don't watch it.

I think that was the general consensus.

anyone who would profit off of 9-11 is a fuckturd. The proceeds should be given to the families of the tragedy, or better yet the film shouldn't have been made. I hated seeing that shit while waiting for another movie to start, I went to a movie to escape reality for a few hours, not re-live the most horrible reality I experienced in my life.
