What went right with The Prequels

Postby philmcknight » November 2nd 2005 6:31 pm

There have been endless debates among the fans of Star Wars about what went wrong in the prequel trilogy. I've even engaged in some of those myself. What I thought would be interesting would be to ask everyone what they thought went right in the PT.
I think the movies were beautifully shot for one. The scope was amazing and the attention to the smallest of details made it all worth watching even at the worst parts of the movie.
I also appreciated how, despite its flaws, the PT deepened my appreciation for the original films. Seeing Anakin go from good little boy to one hell of a badass and the reasons why he did made the emotional impact of the original films that much better.

See for me, Sith gave me more apprication for the entire saga as a whole. Seeing Anakin turn and why he did gave his character in both the OT and PT so much more character depth. The story that was told in Sith puts everything together. This was the missing piece for the saga IMO.

And Agent Smith, are you refering to the Casey Jones of TMNT fame? He was awesome! :whateva: Turtles in a half shell... turtle power!

I completely agree with mattskywalker. After watching ep 3, then ep.4, the absence of Palpatine in 4 and the revelation of Palpatine in 3 make his appearence in ESB and RotJ alot more chilling.

The whole transition between the 2 trilogies worked out great.

What exactly did it lose? If anything, it has more meaning now, and ROTJ definitely looks better.

That is a really interesting site. It makes you wonder if any of the things simular were meant to be that way or it just happened that way. I enjoyed the prequel trilogy for the most part especially Revenge of the Sith. It really made things connect with the original trilogy and made me look at it in a different way.

For all the gripes that people have over the prequel trilogy, you have to admit, it did get a new generation interested in Star Wars.

Just look at all that we have lined up still. Plenty of books, comics, games, and miracles of all miracles, two TV shows...

If the prequels hadn't come out, I think Star Wars might not have expanded its audience and appeal in quite the way that it did.

I couldn't have said it better myself. ROTS validates all the other SW movies. ... and how the Blockade Runner set bridged the two trilogies. Brilliant!

We got to see the Jedi in their hayday. With them all wiped out in the OT, we couldn't see their full swordmanship or other skills. With that scope being limited to 3 films, I think Lucas did a good job without scarificing the story. Wish some of the ways of the Jedi Order could have been seen in the OT.

Certainly the biggest thing the PT added to the saga was depth. The characters of Obi-Wan, Yoda and Vader are fleshed out so much more, as was the evolution of the galaxy as a whole. When I see Vader in the suit, I no longer see just the black mask, but Anakin once again, enslaved, just as he was in TPM.

To see the Jedi at their height, the Republic in its glory and the transformation of both is what made the PT so rich for me. We now saw what was lost, which makes the victory in ROJ much more fulfilling.

I totally agree with you there. I can never see Vader the same way in the OT and that has helped me understand the movies more.
