The Fountain

Postby DoubleSith » July 21st 2006 6:38 pm

The Fountain is an odyssey about one man's thousand-year struggle to save the woman he loves. His epic journey begins in 16th century South America, where conquistador Tomas Verde (Hugh Jackman) commences his search for the Tree of Life, the legendary entity believed to grant eternal life to those who drink of its sap. As modern-day scientist Tom Verde, he desperately struggles to find a cure for the cancer that is killing his beloved wife Izzi (Rachel Weisz). Travelling through deep space as a 26th century astronaut, Tom begins to grasp the mysteries of life that have consumed him for more than a millennium.

Yeah, I have some pretty high hopes for this. I'm a huge Jackman fan.

Brad Pitt was originally signed on in the title role but he pulled out for some reason.

Aronofsky is a talent. He was supposed to direct an episode of Lost this past season but had to pull out due to the workload on the movie and his new baby with Rachel Weisz.

This is the teaser trailer.

Ya, that is an interesting trailer. I’ve enjoyed some stories I read about long long term relationships – hundreds of years. Heinlein’s novels featuring Lazarus Long for example:

Methuselah's Children (1941)
Time Enough for Love (1973)
The Number of the Beast (1980)
The Cat Who Walks Through Walls (1985)
To Sail Beyond the Sunset (1987)

One featured a relationship w/ a girl named Dora that I remember to be decent. She aged, he not really. So, it was tragic. Like this one seems in FOUNTAIN. They (HE) lives forever or near so but she maybe will not be there w/ him for the duration. And so maybe Jackman takes that and that makes for a good movie.

Looked that guy up on IMBD and he’s in demand fer sure:

Rebound Guy (2007) (announced) (in negotiations)
Wolverine (2007) (announced) .... Logan/Wolverine
If You Could See Me Now (2007) (announced)
Untitled Baz Luhrmann Project (2008) (pre-production)
The Lady from Shanghai (2008) (pre-production) (attached)
The Tourist (2007) (pre-production) .... Wyatt
Flushed Away (2006) (post-production) (voice) .... Roddy
The Prestige (2006) (post-production) .... Rupert Angier
Happy Feet (2006) (completed) (voice) .... Memphis
The Fountain (2006) (completed) .... Tom Verde

So, if you like him, looks like you’ll have an opportunity to drink from the well.
