Jon Favreau will be in charge of Iron Man for Marvel

"Marvel Studios has hired Jon Favreau to develop and direct the big-screen adaptation of Iron Man and has attracted an impressive roster of writers to help bring some of its high-profile characters to the big screen, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Favreau will direct a feature version of Marvel's armored hero and develop the script with the writing team of Arthur Marcum and Matt Holloway (Convoy). The project originally was set up at New Line with Nick Cassavetes directing.

Writer-director-actor Favreau previously helmed Zathura: A Space Adventure. He was attached to direct John Carter of Mars for Paramount, but the 11th "Star Trek" movie, from J.J. Abrams and due out in 2008, put a stop to that project for now.

Iron Man will be Favreau's next movie, and he hopes to go behind the camera early next year."

Who will play Tony Stark?

What got me hooked into Iron Man again was the new Volume IV series ...

Image

Wonder which Iron Man armour will be used. In recent issues Iron Man's armour became symbiotic which is cool in my book. Another Iron Man amour variation is in Young Avengers where Iron Man's armour gained sentience and became the new Vision.

Ain't it cool has what they believe to be the exclusive on who has been signed to play Tony Stark. I wouldn't have thought about him in a hundred years, although with his background he seems to get the soul of Tony Stark.

Tony Stark the Iron Man, will be played by Robert Downey, Jr.

This is an interesting choice.

I'm not against it, but I damn sure wouldn't have thought of it either. :monocle:

Hmm, I don't think I was ever into Iron Man. I'll have to check out the movie though.

Scene 28: Iron-Man cruises Hollywod looking for somewhere to score some blow.

I always liked Robert Downey Jr as an actor. He always seemed very believable and his performances genuine. I think he'll make an excellent Tony Stark if it's true. Even if he is a raging dope-fiend.

Hey, Robert, stick to the :weed: , that other shits bad news.

The teaser site for Iron Man has launched. Nothing there yet, but you can register for updates. The early poster that appeared at Comic-Con this past summer.

Old news, but... Favreau has cast his Pepper Potts.

Pepper Potts is? Gwyneth Paltrow!

Yeah, I kind of expected someone less blonde. And less tall. And less lanky.

But it might work on-screen. Not someone I expected though.

The Dude meets Iron Man.
Now this I like.
It almost makes up for Paltrow.
Almost.

And that at some point in the trilogy, Rhodey will become War Machine. That's dope. I'm looking forward to this even more now. Also, I didn't know this before, but Ralphie from A Christmas Story is one of the producers on this. Not that it's going to matter in the outcome, but kind of a weird bit of trivia to out-nerd your friends later on.

I like it. It looks retro but still practical. Also looks like there's actually a person in there, can't wait to see it in motion. I hope they aren't sitting in this cave through the whole fucking movie, though. The red and gold armor has to make some kind of appearance or this thing is going to be kind of anti-climatic for me.

That suit is fucking doap. I hope they leak more pictures, it'd be nice to see it with some kind of reference. It looks kinda' like a rendering or an illustration of the costume. If that's indeed it, then they have absolutely nailed the character, stylistically.

IESB has a video up of the stunt man in the suit walking around and stretching! The site's been crashed from AICN linking to it but I did manage to get a pic from there from the video:

Image

IRON MAN: neighborhood watchman

Stan Winston made the suits

Even though it's grainy, and a slightly out of focus vid-cap, that is the most exciting spoiler image I've seen since 2005.

I'm totally stoked for this one, yet again, even though Iron-Man has become a major dick in comics these days.

it does look pretty badass doesn't it? Next summer is going to rock with this and Batman. Spiderman who?

edit* Also, the spy reported that Iron Man is fighting "Iron Monger" Does anyone know about him or have a pic from the comics? Jeff Bridges is set to play him.

Obidiah Stane steals some stark tech and builds a big tank-man suit with a gun on the shoulder, I think. Found this here page with pictures. I'd put them here but I'm s'posed to be working.

edit: uh, no gun, guess he has a big antenna on his shoulder and he's blue.

Thanks for the link. Very cool to see the suit in "action".

On another note. Anyone else suspect these types of clips as just another way producers and such build hype for the movie? Meaning they had some dude go out, drive by the set, film a not so good clip of the suit all the while making sure to focus in and out so sheep don't blow their load with too much info? Not that I'm complaining, it's just a thought. :chewbacca:

I wouldn't doubt that there is a certain amount of that. I don't know if that's the case here, but having some info leak and then evaluating reactions to it could pre-empt a lot of negativity at release time, and allow for changes if they so desire. In a way, they could just use the internet as a gigantic and free focus group or marketing survey.

If it leads to less teeth gnashing and dissapointment from me in the theatre, I'm all for it.

ED: I never actually watched this video until today (5/6) because until now it was too busy and I'm generally impatient. And after watching it I'm convinced this is somehow intentionally leaked or the results of the luckiest and lousiest amatuer camera operator driving around So-Cal late at night, ever. Still, nice to see theres a believable degree of mobility in the physical creation. Would be nice to have had a steady shot of it though.

Superherohype has an article announcing that multi-Oscar winning ILM'ers will be doing the FX on this one, which gives me a nerd-boner of sorts.

I hope Favreau and Ralphie make this one worth seeing. I also had no idea when my wife made me watch The Breakup, that the psycho pal of Vince Vaughn was also a director. :o

Samuel L Jackson is Nick Fury:
    http://www.superherohype.com/news.php?id=5892
    http://www.aintitcool.com/node/33090

Ain't It Cool News is reporting that 1408 star Samuel L. Jackson will be shooting scenes as iconic super spy Nick Fury on the set of Iron Man today. It doesn't say how big his role is, but we would assume it's a cameo of sorts.

What is also interesting, is that Nick Fury was one of the films Marvel Studios announced as one of the projects for its new independent film slate. The movie, based on the superhero with military roots, has screenwriter Andrew Marlowe attached. Will Jackson's role be expanded into a full movie? We'll have to wait and see.

Iron Man, directed by Jon Favreau and starring Robert Downey Jr., Terrence Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeff Bridges, opens May 2, 2008.

The Ultimate Universe Nick Fury has been basically written as if it were being 'played' by SLJ anyways, so this is another awesome bit of casting news. This movie is going to kick ass.

Umm, goosebumps, jaw-dropped, cannot type adequate intro to this, but heres Comic Con footage on youtube.

[flash width=400 height=425]http://www.youtube.com/v/fVRQjCG8tn4[/flash]

The video quality isn't the greatest, but from what I can see of it, this is looking fantastic. Downey seems to fit right into the Stark role, and the armor is fantastic. I can't think of anything else to say other than shit like "fantastic". I keep mumbling "ohmyfukingawd" quite a bit to myself as well.

Black Sabbath Iron-Man intro music totally kicked ass as well, hope it isn't just temp music.

Oh, this and a couple other things I found at superherohype.

My Iron Man knowledge is quite limited not having read many of the comics but that looked great and has definitely got me interested in the film. Both of the suits looked fantastic in motion.

That was godly. When I first heard about an iron Man movie, my reaction was one of indifference. But the wonderful casting and that kick ass preview have me hyped. Looks to be a lot better than any of the recent Marvel films. Here's to hoping they can pull off an enjoyable flick.

Movie tie-in video game shown at Comic Con too. Still a work in progress but looks like a lot of fun.

[flash width=400 height=450]http://www.youtube.com/watch/v/_Lu3DjjjIBo[/flash]

I think it's safe to say from what we've seen from Marvel Studios thus far that they are going to handle thier characters a lot better than the major studios. The fact that the suits "just didn't get" and therefore fucked up Spiderman and F4 is going to become glaringly obvious.

Fuckers. They ought to put the actual video up on thier site allready. I recall them saying it was 'just for Comic-con' at some point, but hey, not everyone can take time off to go to California. Word of mouth will only go so far once you tell people to shut up.

Edit: Okay, so maybe I'm just bitter. Should have seen it coming. Thanks for the mirror Ewok Pudu!

Iron Man is lookin good. I was apprehensive about Downey but the promos of him all lean and mean, the design of the armor, and the recent footage turned it around for me.

Iron Man, The New Hulk, Indiana IV, and The Dark Knight - Summer 2008 is going to be big. The Star Wars Live-Action Series looks to be shooting then also. :o

Yeah, loads of stuff coming for next summer. I'm a bit more excited about Iron Man and the Hulk than I was for any five movies that came out in 07', so I hope they deliver.

Oh, and the other day CBR linked to Favreau's myspace blog in which he claims that the comic-con teaser footage is going to be online soon. That's one right on mutherfucker, that Mr Favreau.

I love this trailer....Iron Man still looks a bit cartoonish at times, but I love the Tony Stark character, especially at the demonstration with the "use it once" quote.

They left out some of the comic-con footage, like the head shot ricochet and the Favreau cameo. But still great to see this in such better quality. This movie is going to kick ass.

And thanks for posting the link DP, I didn't want to have to watch The Sons of Laguna Hills Beach 9021fuck er' whatever it was on MTV anyways. I got enough ego-trauma from having to video-tape part of the OC back in 05'.

I've officially watched this trailer as many times as I did Batman Begins and the Transformers ones and i get the same feeling for them all FUCKING YES!

RDJ is just the bee's knees when it comes to these sorts of characters. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is his best movie to date, looks like he's on form to top that.
