Summer Movie Meltdown 07

Kicking off with the ass kicking bad-assery of 300, followed by the too lame to even rent Ghost Rider, and the personally disapointing Spiderman-3, summer movie season 2007 was kind of a letdown for me. There were a lot of great moments spread out across a lot of mediocre films, and only a few actually put together a wholly great movie experience. Hell, I never even went to see Pirates 3 because I wasn't about to sit there for 3 hours needing to piss.

I was looking forward to 28 Weeks Later, which was okay, but not as good as the first, yet had a better final act. Fantastic 4 II got such bad press I'm waiting for the DVD. Transformers looked fabulous, but I really kind of hoped everyone would just die in the end.

Not that any of these were actually horrible (except SM3, that sucked), they just didn't live up to my expectations based on what we had seen of them prior to hitting the theatres. My top two would be 300 and Harry Potter and the OOTP, and having to admit I liked the latter in itself makes me kind of sad for the state of movies these days.

I just hope that the people behind Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk don't see this years crop of movies and think they can shoot this low for next year, because I will send them boxes of hate mail and cat shit if they waste my money like Hollywood did this year. Because I'm looking forward to those two more than all of this years movies combined.

But fuck my opinion, what did you think?

Agreed, 300 was awesome. I enjoyed Grindhouse too, though it probably would've worked better as two movies. I've never been a big Spidey fan, so I saw that one on the internet and didn't get anything spectacular from it. The biggest letdown for me this year was Pirates.

Though Transformers is definately doing it for me right now. I saw it at a drive-in theater last week, and it was definately the most fun I've had at a movie in quite awhile.

If Transformers wasn't released this year, then yes, Hollywood would have sucked a fat one. Saw 300, great freakin flick (looking forward to the end of the month for the DVD), 28 weeks later wasn't as good as the first, Knocked up was alright, didn't see Pirates or FF4II, but Transformers rocked the house.

I've enjoyed 300, Transformers, Spider-Man 3 (after multiple viewings), Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End and Fantastic 4: Rise Of The Silver Surfer. Then again these are my type of movies so I guess that is why I highly enjoy them.

This summer was a letdown. While I enjoyed Spider-Man3 enough to buy it on DVD at some point, it wasn't what I hoped it would be. Other than that, 300 was awesome (HD-DVD next week bitches!), Fantastic Four was the same piece of shit it was the first time, and I don't give a shit about Pirates.

But next summer is owned by Indiana and the Knight.

I liked Transformers, haven't seen Knocked Up yet (doesn't open here until the end of September, I think). Didn't bother with Pirates, thought 300 was a waste, don't go near anything Potter related.

So this summer has thus far been worthless in terms of movies.

I, too, am looking forward to Batman and Indy next year, although I worry about the latter.

Liked Transformers though I don't know why...Liked 28 weeks later, silly but some good moments.

My Favorite in Knocked Up by far...I laughed really hard and that is good.

Transformers, Harry Potter, Ratatouille, Knocked Up, Shrek 3, Spider-Man 3 were all very enjoyable flicks IMO. I saw more movies this summer than any summer so far...and there's still the Simpsons movie!

I saw Spiderman 3 in Imax...it was pretty good. I like seeing big blockbusters in Imax, so it was ok. Nothing great however. I also saw Harry Potter in Imax 3d. That was pretty cool, though I felt like they cut a lot out. Haven't seen 300, will probably check it out on DVD. I hate Pirates, but saw 3 because my parents were visiting and wanted to see it. Transformers was what I expect a summer action flick to be...i.e. blowing stuff up and end of the world goodness. I generally only go to see movies at the theatre that require the theatre experience. I'll pick up knocked up on DVD since it doesn't require a big sound system or anything. I am really looking forward to next summer when Indy 4 and Batman 2 come out.
