I hate this movie already. It has forced Bryan Singer's SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL to be put on hold. Warner is focusing on JLA first. Besides the fact...I have no desire to spend time in an alternate reality DC universe where Routh isn't Superman and Bale isn't Batman.

This film is powered by greed, not story or character. Its the same philosophy that went into the JLA book during its creation. The plus that the book had, that the movie lacks, it each character already had been fleshed out in their own book. WB is hoping to use this film as a start point for other heroes stories. Crossover films should wait until each character is established and when their stories are ready for overlap.

WB can collectively take a leap. They are alienating me on this one.

I'll see it, I'm really interested. I want this to work, even if it's being made for no reason at all.

George Miller is directing, so that may help things.

As for Bale and Routh, while it would be great to see them in this, it probably wouldn't fit into Miller's "universe" and I think the actors--especially Bale--is totally devoted to the other directors' visions.

Right.

But does anyone see a problem with having the same characters characters in two different 'universes' and two different films? Its not going to work unless it serves as a reboot. Continuity is key here.

I hope the guys at Marvel Studios watch the fan confusion here and insist on putting the actors from previous films in thier characters for the Avengers movie. I was never a big DC fan, except for the big 2 (Super and Bat), but I can understand the ire people have expressed so far about the casting changes here.

That said, if the budget is right, the effects get handled by some good people, and the script and dialogue come together, this could be a really awesome movie. They should call it "Crisis in Infinite Cineplex's".

It would be badass to see Michael Keaton as Batman again in this though! But the villians SUCK! Why not get Braniac or Darkseid or hell, Bizarro??

This movie is going to be a tragic rushed clusterfucked mess.

But I'm all for a nostelgia kick and getting Keaton back as Batman. But we won't see that. It'll be a bunch of 20 something kids in a "angry superhero teens" type movie.

Yawn.

Bring on the Dark Knight to wipe the floor with this shit...

Might as well just use the Doomsday storyline if you're going to fuck it up anyway.

Oh, and just my opinion, but not having Routh and Bale attached is really retarded.

here we go, casting announcements from: IESB

[spoil]
Green Lantern, The Flash and Talia al Ghul Revealed

DC Comics fans have been on the edge of their seats for the last few days waiting for some official casting for the upcoming Justice League film, for now here is the Flash, the Green Lantern and Talia al Ghul.

A few months ago the IESB brought you the news that both Justin Long and Adam Brody had been brought in to read for the role of the Flash, a few days later the Trades confirmed our scoop.

Today I received a phone call from a source who has some pretty close ties to people involved in the production and gave us a tidbit, Wally West/The Flash will be played by Adam Brody.

By the time that I received the tip, it was too late in the day to reach the anybody from the studio for comment, we had been hearing similar rumblings for the last few days but no confirmation from anybody at WB at this time.

The other name we are hearing was pretty much locked as of a couple of weeks ago was Common as John Stewart/The Green Lantern. We confirmed this with multiple sources.

Also, remember those rumors that claimed that Teresa Palmer has been cast as Wonder Woman? Not true, Ms. Palmer has not been cast as Princess Diana, our sources are telling us that she has been cast as Talia al Ghul, daughter of Ra’s al Ghul.

One thing is for certain, actors have been sworn to secrecy and have been warned not to reveal their involvement even to their closest friends and relatives.

One studio source, who has been asked not to be mentioned by name, told the IESB that several actors that starting talking early on were warned by the production that they could lose the role if they revealed their character or even the fact that they had been cast.

We have our ears to the ground in Texas this weekend for Wizard World. There have been rumors for a good part of a month that announcements were being planned by WB during the Con. We have checked with couple people over at Wizard and they have not been able to confirm or deny if anything is planned this weekend.

Stay tuned as we bring you Justice League news as it breaks.
Scoop: Scott Porter Is JLA's Superman!
By Josh Tyler: 2007-11-17 02:19:08

Scoop: Scott Porter Is JLA's Superman! It looks like the dam is about to burst on the casting of Warner Bros. Justice League of America movie. It’s just unfortunate that it had to happen late at night on a weekend, when I’m full of Scotch and in no mood to talk about which Hollywood actor will be abusing his crotch with tights next.

Anyway, here’s the skinny. Tonight we got an email from a guy claiming to be in the know with what’s going on in the JLA camp. He asked to remain anonymous, but he says he knows at least part of who is playing who. Normally I’d just delete such an email out of hand, after all we’re all sick of fake JLA rumors by now, but some of what he said confirmed heretofore unknown production tidbits I’d already heard from others, and then about an hour after he sent the email to me, another site posted a story confirming at least part of his casting rumor… yet they appear to have gotten their info from a completely different source, since their cast list doesn’t contain the real gem of the bunch… Superman.

So here’s the deal. Our source says Warner Brothers is set to announce the completed JLA cast next week, and Scott Porter (that’s him to your right) has been hired to play Superman. If you’ve noticed Porter at all before now, it’s probably as a regular on the TV series Friday Night Lights. He also had a fairly significant part in Music & Lyrics, and he’s just finished filming on Speed Racer as the brother of Racer X, Rex Racer.

He’s 29, from Omaha Nebraska, and about as all-American looking as a guy can get. I guess that’s what you want in a Superman, isn’t it? Now can the guy act? Wait, this is JLA. Who cares. Can the guy convincingly carry the Statue of Liberty over his head? That’s all that matters.

In addition to Porter, our source says Common is now signed to play John Stewart/Green Lantern. Adam Brody has been added to the cast, probably as The Flash. Teresa Palmer is on board but not as Wonder Woman. Other sources suggest she’s playing the daughter of Batman villain Ra’s al Ghul, Talia Ghul. Last, Michael Gough may make an appearance as Alfred, after being kicked out of the part by Michael Caine in Chris Nolan’s Begins movie.

So that’s the latest, and we've been able to confirm a lot of it with several different methods. Maybe this time we have a JLA cast rumor which is reliable. Everyone seems to agree WB will make an official announcement next week, so we won’t have long to wait for the final, full, cast list. We still don’t know who’s landed major parts like Wonder Woman or The Martian Manhunter.[/spoil]

reactions....

Postby Steelsheen » November 17th 2007 4:48 am

Common as GL - as expected for a few weeks now - one word: perfect :heavymetal:

Porter as Superman well he has that wholesome, all-american look to him, that cant be denied. Just hope they seriously work on his appearance, because that is NOT how Kal-El/ Clark Kent/ Superman looks. Now to got find those FNL episodes to see the acting caliber on this guy.

Brody as Wally West-Flash, my initial reaction: WTF?!?!?!?! Wally is a red head! RED HEAD! After walking this out a bit I guess Brody has got that smartass comedic timing that was needed for Wally. So yeah guess it's not a total loss. Still - Brody? ick!

Palmer as Talia - wow total miscast :|

They're gonna have to seriously work on her look to be Talia Al Gul - especially if they want to keep that name in the movie. Remember seeing one of her work done such as The Grudge II. Her acting skills there are perfect for a Mean Girls type of movie. bah, jury's still out on this one.

Scott Porter is pretty good on FNL, but he is a bit too young looking for Superman IMO.

If you were going to go for young looking anyway, you might as well go with Tom Welling....

Michael Gough back as Alfred? Fuck Yeah! Awesome if true. As long as he's in the movie, I'll sit it out.

Rest of the cast, this thing will be a disaster. should just call it DC Heroes: The O.C. Years

btw, the Scott Porter as Superman rumor is said to be false. a member at SHH actually talked to Porter at Wizard World Texas and Porter didnt know a thing about it, he was interested in The Flash which he confirmed to have lost to Brody.

latest in the rumor mill is that the cast is complete and locked in. however that doesnt explain WB's delay with the official casting announcements.

I've met her twice through some work-related events, she's actually pretty average looking in real-life very tall though, like huge all legs. I have no idea whether she can act either, to be honest this pretty much makes this project less-and-less legit and more like a joke. oh and she's like, in her late 20's early 30's for memory and the rest of the cast is like, 22+ thats just bizarre.

well it started out with the best intentions....

i think it was a really heavy blow that Bale decided to skip out of this. no matter how good the director and screenwriters are, no matter how exemplary the script is, if your actors are subpar, then the whole effort becomes pointless. its like trying to kill someone with a bullet with no tip.

Last week at the AFI's George Miller mentioned that JUSTICE LEAGUE will have a new title soon.

We may have it already.

Christian Bale was on Nova (FM) today in an interview (pre-recorded I assume) for "Yuma" and said he has "nothing to do with AMERICAN HEROES, and their Batman will be different to our Batman".

Hmmmm. I work for Nova 100 in Melbourne. I think if anything, it's prolly that Bale doesn't actually know much about the project, so he therefore prolly has no idea what the movie is actually called.

Either way, it's going to be a piece of shit so what does it matter what they label the box?

i dont know why its such a big deal that Justice League will be "retitled" just because one article says so. it also probably meant that 'working under a new title' (sic) means that it will have a working title like Star Wars had Blue Harvest, Batman Begins was Intimidation Game and Superman Returns was Red Sun.

Some people are such extremes on this movie they're either gullible or derisive. :whateva:

The fact AICN is "reporting" something heard on a music radio station here in Melbourne from a guy not remotely involved in the project as NEWS of a TITLE CHANGE for film is totally retarded.

It's like the BBC reporting on something the guy at the corner dairy heard about where Osama was staying. (odds on the guy at the corner dairy is Osama)

From what I've read over there, AICN's Butt Numb-a-thon went down like a cup of cold sick, so I think if you send them in a fake review of the Justice League Script they'd run it they're so desperate to wash away that whole failure by running some bullshit like this.

And speaking of jokes, I think it's beyond coincidence that a forum thread about this whack assed O.C/DC-P.O.S movie has degenerated so quickly into a flame fest.

This movie is going to be an experiment in pointless assitude, just like talking about it seems to be. That's not a slam to anyone here, just an observation on how little interest this crappy production is drawing from the average fan.

My prediction is that it never sees the theatre.

Routh Out of Superman Sequel, Too?

Source: Latino Review
January 4, 2008

Not long after we mentioned this article from Variety stating that Bryan Singer is highly unlikely to direct the Superman Returns sequel, Latino Review posted more possible bad news for the second film -- Brandon Routh may not return either as Clark Kent/Superman.

According to the site, the actor that lands the Superman role in George Miller's Justice League will go on to star in a separate Superman movie as well.

Again, none of this is official until the studio actually confirms or denies these rumors (about both Singer and Routh), so it will be a wait-and-see game for now.

Yep.

Don't get me wrong, he was no Reeve. However, I liked the film more than I thought I would.

But to go back to the drawing board after one reboot is basically admitting failure. Believe it or not, SR made more total box office (worldwide) than Batman Begins.

Granted, BB had more damage to undo because of that fucking Schumacher. But having said that, SR wasn't a dud. And don't forget it had to go up against a highly anticipated sequel in Dead Man's Chest just like BB had to go up against Revenge of the Sith.

I can't see a new film in the near future. People seem to feel Superman doesn't work in this day and age. Warner Brothers apparently agrees.

UPDATE: just got off the phone with a very high-ranking mole who is absolutely in a position to know what's happening with this film, and he tells me that it is "absolutely false" that Brandon Routh is out as Superman for the stand-alone series.

The only thing that has been determined is that JUSTICE LEAGUE will not feature the actors from the other films. That's it. Right now, Routh is still Warner's choice to return if they make another stand-alone SUPERMAN film, and that's based on conversations as recently as a few weeks ago.

Don't believe this one, kids. Routh's still the Man of Steel.

I agree with what Moriarty said in the article at AICN. Routh was actually one of the good points of SR. You can't blame him because of a bad script or poor choices (sequel to Chris Reeves Superman? Did we need a sequel to a 30 year old story?).

The main problem with SR for me is that Warners put too much money into Singer's vision. Yeah, he did great at X-Men 1 & 2. But I believe that was mainly because the story spoke to him personally (Mutants = Gays. I'm not making fun by the way, I really believe that resonated with him. Not because he might be gay himself, but because intolerance was something he at least could understand).

The nearest thing that connects to Superman is Jesus Christ. And I really don't think you have to make a movie about a Jesus Christ-like figure. I don't think Richard Donner ever tried to make "Jesus for 1977". But for some reason, Warners and Singer loved the idea of carrying on the 70's Superman franchise with the added Christ theme and it just wasn't the same. IMO.
