Star Wars TV series 'years away'

Bad news for "Star Wars" fans: the live-action TV series is still "years away", according to George Lucas.

Lucas spoke to a packed crowd at the Museum of Television and Radio in Los Angeles about plans to bring "Star Wars" to the small screen.

An animated series based on the Clone Wars is in development with Lucas to produce 100 episodes, but the live-action version is a long way off.

Lucas revealed that the show will follow four separate character arcs, with each episode dealing with one character ala "Lost".

McCallum mentioned in the latest Insider that the WGA strike put a stop to scriptwriting, which was supposed to be going on around now.

Just to re-iterate from a previous post...what a mess!

Looks like Force Unleashed is going to have to fill the void or a nice new Jumper (sweaters for American friends).

Disappointed in the UK.

I think it's kind of old news, as Lucas was at Paley Festival in February or March last year when he told that.

But, it's true the writer's strike may have delayed scripts writing for some months, unless an agreement was signed between writers and Lucasfilm like other studios did in january...

Bad news for "Star Wars" fans: the live-action TV series is "dead in the water and is never, ever going to happen", according to George Lucas.

Fixed.

^He was being "sarcastic."

I think that holding off the live-action series for a few years is a good idea.
But then again, no matter when or how it comes out, people are going to scream bloody murder and claim that Lucas raped their adulthood.

I think it's a good idea as well....otherwise people get burnt out, like Star Trek.

I don't know about it being "dead in the water", allthough that is the vibe I'm getting here as well. My hope to see it happen may be clouding my judgement on this one, though.

Part of me still wonders why they ever decided to make a live-action TV show at all, instead of just making more movies. Producing more films would be a larger undertaking for sure, but not as long of a commitment. More bang for your buck so to speak. From a business stand-point, more films seem like a sure thing, whereas a television show may or may not do so well after the initial hype wears away. Sure, creatively, some folks may wonder (not so quietly) if Lucas even has another Star Wars film in him. But if he were to farm out most of the writing for it (as he planned to with the TV show anyways), and had someone else direct (a la ESB), it might be better recieved than the prequels.

I'm not understanding the motivation here. Maybe they should just say "screw the TV and/or movies, let's just open a Star Wars theme park". That would fucking rock. I nominate myself to be Georges business manager, because the one he has is pissing me off.

• On the Live-Action Star Wars series, Lucas said that project was still “years away.”

Tagne is right, this story is based on info from last year's Museum of Television and Radio event. So far as I know this year's Paley Festival hasn't taken place yet. Thanks for keepin an eye out and posting new threads though DoubleSith.
