Economic Stimulus Act 2008

Postby darthpsychotic » May 15th 2008 2:48 am

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tax_rebate

In effort to jump start the economy, Americans who filed tax returns in fiscal year 2007 received anywhere from $300 to $600 dollars. What did you spend your dollas on. :armscrossed: :armshead:

I have yet to receive my rebate, but I know what I will be spending it on. The quality time I intend to spend with my plastic Agent Spalko doesn't pay for itself. :bounce:

actually, those numbers DP are wrong. it's $600 for a single adult, $1,200 if married, and $300 for each child you have. i've already gotten ours in direct deposit.

$1200 per married couple = $600 each (x2) fyi. So individuals do in fact recieve between $300 and $600. They just like to throw the $1200 amount out there to piss off the single folks methinks. Or I got ripped off, cuz me and the Mrs got $1200 total.

And, as sad as it sounds, I'm about to use my economic stimulus money to file bankruptcy.

Aint that a fucking kick in the nuts. I hope they don't want to take away my computer. :|

well just to be a dick, a person would only get $300 if they were a child claimed as a dependant. :meatwad: If you're an adult you got $600. this 3rd grade math is hard sometimes I know

I wasn't able to do this unfortunately since my parents claimed me on their tax return, so I was fucked. :(

There's also a salaray limitation. If you make over 75k as an individual, or 150k as a couple, they start taking percentages off. I'm well under that, thank god. And mine's going to sit in the bank account until I'm sure the federal government isn't going to ask for the sh$t back again.

From what I have read and heard, this is not just the gov'ment giving a handout. The money we're getting now will be deducted from next years tax returns. So were borrowing from ourselves interest free.

There is no way that is true. If you've read it online, post a link or something.

I actually read that too, I was pretty sure this was at www.irs.gov but oddly enough after looking at thier frequently asked questions page, nothing there about it. I'm surprised none of the questions was "Where does this money come from?". Or are people just desperate enough or dumb enough these days that it never crossed thier minds until now? You people didn't think the Feds were just 'giving' you money did you? They borrowed it, at interest, so you could do your part in supporting the military industrial complex by consuming all those nice products they got rich importing from other countries for us. Ingrates.

Of course we will be paying it back somehow. Well, you guys will anyway. I'm thinking about becoming a Mexican.

Here's some clarification:

[spoil] [web]http://www.opencongress.org/articles/view/418-Stimulus-Bill-Misconceptions[/web] [/spoil]

So because of the new tax law/decrease going into effect next year, the amount of money we are receiving is basically what we would get extra from next year. So take it now or get it later, either way it's our money. So yes technically we don't have to pay it back, but we are giving ourselves a tax free advance.

I used it to buy gas, smokes and food. In that order. I'm also looking to get caught up on my mortgage, but what I have left is only going to make a dent in that shit. I'd rather buy something cooler, but being old sucks.
