The Expendables 2010

Postby Hige » January 16th 2009 7:01 am

This sounds like it could be a fun movie.

Director: Sylvester Stallone

Writer: Sylvester Stallone

Cast:

Sylvester Stallone
Jason Statham
Jet Li
Dolph Lundgren
Randy Couture
Robert Knepper
Mickey Rourke
Ben Kingsley
Forest Whitaker

Synopsis:

The story follows an “expendable” team, hired to do jobs that no one else can or will, who are sent to infiltrate a South American country to overthrow the ruthless dictator and liberate the country.

The film is part of a two-picture deal Stallone has with Nu Image/Millennium Films. Principal photography is set to begin in Costa Rica and Louisiana in February 2009.

needs Steven Segal and Van Damme to be epic. even if just cameos. Have Bruce Willis be the bad guy. ok, maybe not Segal

Here's a pic of Stallone as he'll be in the movie. This man is 62 years old :wow:

Image

Van Damme WAS offered a role in the film but he turned it down!! /film

“Stallone gave me a part in his next movie,” he told us. “But I ask him about the subject, about the story.”

“He said, ‘You’re gonna make lots of money.’ I don’t want to hear that, I want to hear what was my character. He was unable to tell what it’s going to be.”

“[Stallone said:] ‘You know, uh, well, the fighting will be good.’ [So I said:] ‘Sly, what is my character?’ So I didn’t do the movie.”

yeah fuckin right. he was more interested in the "character" than the money. :handjob:

AICN is saying Arnold will be in this as a cameo!

Hey folks, Harry here... Just got off the phone with... ahem "my source" ahem... who let me know that Arnold Schwarzeggar is going to be playing Governor Arnold Schwarzeneggar in THE EXPENDABLES. He will be shooting for one day, and it seems that the Gov and Sly's character Barney Ross have some history back when the Gov was shooting CONAN THE BARBARIAN!

Also - Ben Kingsley is out as the dirty bastard CIA sob, and Eric Roberts is in! Also, Mickey Rourke has finally signed on officially!

The production is a month out from shooting, and reportedly according to (ahem) my source (ahem), the script has been being beaten into shape by Stallone who has been struggling to nail the right tonal balance of humor, action and emotional reality. So there you have it. Sly and Arnie are both in this film. I'd take that to the bank, I have a really good (ahem) source (ahem) on this!

This seems to be the year the 80's strike back :heavymetal:

Too bad Stallone is aiming for PG-13.

Latino Review says that Danny Trejo is on and that he's likely to play a bad guy role most likely in the regime of the main bad guy that The Expendables have to topple.

Arnold was more expendable than we thought:

AICN

Hey folks, Harry here... It seems there's a possibility that my source was a bit too exuberant about the certainty of Arnold Schwarzeneggar signing aboard. The whole thing is very dependent upon what happens with Arnold's primary gig as the Governor of California. As most of you know, California has been hit brutally by the financial nightmare that has descended upon the world.

If you read DRUDGE or any of the papers in California, you can see a stern faced Arnold working with the California legislature to find a way to fix some of the insanity that's happening in that state. That's the primary job that Arnold is working on over the rest of his term as Governor. If there's some daylight in there somewhere, he might possibly find the time to do his friend, Stallone, a favor by being in THE EXPENDABLES.

My source also tells me that if this miracle does come to pass, you'll find Arnie not as the Governor, but as something a bit more gritty, scarred and brutalized.

Forrest Whitaker is out. 50 Cent is IN

AICN

[hr]
Dear Harry,

Below is a letter that I sent to the Stallone Zone that I had also wanted to send to you because I have the same loyalty to your site as well. Anyway, it might temper preconceived opinions.

Thank you and best,
Sly

P.S.

Also, for clarification:

Hale Caesar is Curtis Jackson ( 50 Cent )
Toll Road (new character) is Randy Couture
Monroe is Eric Roberts
Tool (an ex-Expendable) is Mickey Rourke
Bao is Jet Li
Lee Christmas is Jason Statham
Lacy is Charisma Carpenter
Sandra is Giselle Itie (famous Brazilian actress)

And

Barney 'the schizo' Ross is Yours Truly.

P.S.S.
By the way, there's enough testosterone and ego in this film to float a large continent covered in elephants, but I'm enjoying it.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Craig,

I appreciate the incredible amount of work you've done on my behalf. Please tell the loyal followers to be positive not negative in their feedback. I am not self-destructive. The anger of the casting of 50 Cent is nderstandable, but not fair. A player is only as good as his coach. If a man can communicate in one medium, he can communicate in another if his strengths are brought out and he has the support of well-wishers.

So, trust me, the change of Forest Whitaker to 50 Cent AKA Curtis Jackson is a good one. No one thought Dolph Lundgren was a good choice for ROCKY or Mr. T. Carl Weathers was an afterthought when Ken Naughton fell out. The same with Talia Shire and Richard Crenna, who was known as a comedic actor, not a serious one.

Nobody wanted Eric Roberts over Ben Kingsley, but I believe it's a vastly improved casting. The point is, you either believe in me and the project, setting your personal feelings aside, or you take a darker approach, which really serves no purpose since your insight and suggestions and overall enthusiasm are a great thrill for me to behold everyday I sign on.

Signing off -

Your friend,
Sly

This still sounds great to me. Those are Sly's real tattoos as well!

Yeah, it still sounds like an interesting film to me regardless the switch between Ghost Dog and 50 Cent. Neither one of them are that good as an actor anyway, but I don't think "acting" will be the best bit with this flick. I'm a bit "worried" that Sly wants a PG-13 rating for this one. I was hoping for some intense and gory action scenes like those in Rambo.

50 Cent is now out! AICN former San Diego Chargers Terry Crews is in. He was in "The 6th Day" with Arnold. Just think BIG black bald dude and that's him.

The various movie sites have some promotional on-set images up. However here is one that is unofficial - Stallone with Tara Reid's stomach. Stallone got detained in Australia for possessing Human Growth Hormone a year or so back. Whatever Stallone is on I hope it is widely available when we get his age. :wow:

 Yeah we can always hope DP.

AICN posted a training video with sly a while ago. It seems he's in pretty good shape after all. (Sly_Gym_031209.mov)

Collider had a chat with Sly.

He said this which sound pretty exciting. QUOTE: COLLIDER: "Does this movie represent a reboot to the action movies from the 80s, with jungle, soldiers of fortune, etc?

SS: Yes, it's a 1980s movie with today's technology. But in those days, the female leading character was a helpless girl, waiting to be rescued by the hero. Now we have a very strong female character that evolved to this form while I was writing the script. But except for this, yes, it's a 1980s movie."

Brittany Murphy and David Zayas have joined the cast of The Expendables according to THR.

Thanks for posting that b.

After Rambo IV - I'm sorta pulling for this, especially with all these 80's action titans together in one film.

Bruce Willis set to make a cameo alongside Arnold. So says MTV:

The “Die Hard” star confirmed to MTV News that he is leaving time open on his schedule to shoot a cameo for “The Expendables,” the ultra-violent, star-studded action flick written/directed by and starring Sylvester Stallone. Sly is currently putting the finishing touches on the movie, which also stars Jason Statham, Jet Li and Mickey Rourke as mercenaries overthrowing a South American dictator. Willis said that the he will soon join Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger to shoot a very special scene for the flick.

“Not yet, I haven’t united with them,” said Willis. “I’m waiting for a call from Sly about when we’re going to try and make that happen.”

slashfilm (one of the best movie blog sites around) has info on the characters Bruce and Arnold will be playing:

Bruce will play Mr Church, the man who hires the Expendables, a highly-trained team of deadly combat mercenaries, to go on a mission to South America to overthrow and execute a villainous dictator. Interestingly enough, the role of Church was originally offered to Schwarzenegger, who declined in favor of a smaller cameo part due to political concerns. Schwarzenegger will now play a retired Lieutenant General of the Expendables.

let's hope there is some onscreen chemistry and charisma going on and not giant egos trying to steal the best one liners.

I honestly might prefer option number two there. I don't ask for much out of my pulp action movies besides ego and one-liners.

doesn't look too hot really. More like a movie on TNT or the USA network. :what:

also, AICN says Stallone, Arnold and Bruce Willis filmed their scene together today in some church.
