Lord Of The Rings Blu-Ray

Postby Hige » April 16th 2009 3:53 am

Amazon.Com has the Blu-ray LOTR DVD collection (theatrical editions) available for pre-Order. The pre-order page also has a great image of the box art!

There's been some rumors for a while that a release of the LOTR-trilogy on Blu-ray is prominent. The Digital Bits have had som info in their "The Rumour Mill" column before. Here (Scroll down to 10/3/08) and Here.

Now TORN got some more info that a release is prominent.

They're really going to milk this for all it's worth, aren't they? Next year: the Extended Editions. Year after that (alongside the theatrical release of The Hobbit), a brand new super duper cut. Passing for now.

And henceforth, all sheep dvd sets will follow the George Lucas method of release.

I'll wait until the Extended Editions are released on Blu-Ray. I don't want to double dip.

I found some more info about the "milking" about these films and editions.

From The Digital Bits. And i'm pretty sure there will be more to come when "The Hobbit" films are released on DVD/Blu-ray.

[Editor's Note: Sources close to director Peter Jackson have informed me that he's saving the extended editions of the films for an "ultimate" box set release closer to the debut of the new Hobbit films - that's why these BDs are set to be theatrical only.

That's obviously not going to satisify every fan, but it gives them something in the meantime. As was the case with the original DVD release, at least you're now aware in advance that a more elaborate release is coming eventually if you'd prefer to wait for it.

For Warner's part, I've officially confirmed with the studio that this initial Blu-ray release is real and it's coming before the end of this year, but I'm told it won't be officially announced for another few months yet. So you should probably still consider this release to be semi-official and subject to change. Just FYI.]

So next year is when should expect the Extended Editions on Blu-Ray? Well I can wait another year.

The Hobbit is a 2011 release, so a couple more years.

I think you mean to say "eminent", not prominent.

I spoke to a friend who is an eminent Professor of English in order to clarify that one. His answer is imminent, I'll get back to you when he gives it.

For many here, English or American English isn't their native tongue. From what I know, Hige is from Northern Europe. On the double dipping, the reason why many movies are re-released is that it keeps the films on the shelves. Every few years or a so a new generation on consumers emerges therefore new customers and new fans. The goes for "Greatest Hits" type packages from musical acts.

With that said, it's sorta hard to sit through the LOTR films no matter what format or edition is.
