From Starwars.com: Quicktime VR Episode III 3D pictures

http://www.starwars.com/hyperspace/member/knollvision/

[hr]
Through in-depth Set Diaries and up-to-the-second webcam coverage, Hyperspace subscribers were treated last summer to the "next best thing to being there" on the set of Episode III. Starting next week, on Tuesday June 1, Hyperspace will go even deeper, with a new photo series that puts you right in the middle of the making of Episode III, and lets you look around.

Using QuickTime VR technology, this new weekly photo series examines the sets and production areas of Fox Studios Australia in an interactive and immersive way. Dubbed "KnollVision," this series was entirely photographed by Visual Effects Supervisor John Knoll. He used a standard digital camera fitted with a fisheye lens. After taking photos from various angles, Knoll would stitch the digital images together to create a QuickTime VR view.

While photography of this type does often have practical visual effects application -- such as determining appropriate reflections in shiny computer-generated surfaces -- many of the photos were taken to be unique keepsakes from the Episode III shoot.

Join Hyperspace today, and receive a slew of benefits for being a member of the Official Star Wars Fan Club. The series starts on Tuesday, June 1, and will continue each Tuesday thereafter. Catch the excitement as it starts, and sign up now!

[hr]

Pretty nice if they show us around these sets like the General's Quarters.. Maybe see Palpatine "shackled" to the chair.

Will they be actual 3D pictures or just a picture that can be rotated 360 degrees? :meatwad:

Awesome stuff!!

I loved the ones that www.thematrix.com did for the sequels they have dozens of them, from sets, actors, weapons, sets, etc. Of course you have to find them in the Zion archives, and with the help of the Binary codes.

When ever Pablo talks about the George Lucas Selects, he kinds of makes it seems like its not happening, at least anytime soon. I bet they do a small run nearer Episode 3.

Are we going to get selects for Episode III?

Supposedly. But they always answer vaguely about George's schedule whenever this question comes up. And the newest Hyperspace tour doesn't mention them. So I'm not so sure anymore.

I don't remember a comment like that. He did say there would be about 70 BTH pictures. There were 57 Lucas Select pictures for AOTC.

For AOTC, the Select pictures started on July 13th, 2000. In our current timeline, that would be July 2003, ten months ago. We only have 51 weeks to go before EP III.

So it is looking grim. :(

Pabs just created a new thread to talk about Hyperspace this summer. I asked if the Selects were officially dead. He said:

It's getting defibrilated, but the doctor refuses to call the time. Frankly, if it happens, I can't help but think they'll be rather weak in comparison to everything else going on.

Knollvision #1: KV01 Cruiser - Elevator Lobby

Taken from the first day of filming a 360 view of the lobby and hallway.

If you zoom into the elevator you can see battle droid pieces, including a head.

Gets a big... meh from me.

Bring on the next doc.

I think it's pretty spiffy. Not much that we haven't already seen, but it's much better than a BTH pic of some meaningless set element. The dead battle droids are cool.

I like the feature, this one is a little so-so simply because we've seen a lot of the TF Cruiser lobby already in pics and web docs. I look forward to the other sets. I also really like the lighting they're using for all the TF Cruiser sets, it has an ESB feel to it.

The shadow on the floor looks like Dooku holding his lightsaber but it's probably just John Knoll snapping the photos though I'm sure.

Normally, I'd be one of the first ones here to rip Hyperspace, but this thing is very cool. You have so much control over the shot. You can zoom in, rotate the picture 360 degrees, go up, down, etc. Hell, you can even look for spots on the ceiling if you wanted to do so.

This thing definitely puts BTH pics to shame. It's the second best thing coming off of Hyperspace after the Docs.

True, we're paying for everything this time around. ;)

But at least a feature like this, with a new 3D set picture every Tuesday, and a new BTH picture every Thursday, well, it does make the fact that he's charging us for all of this a little bit easier to take.

Just to clarify my meh from eariler...

the technology behind these QT VR is very cool. I just hoped the first choice of sets was something we haven't already seen a lot of.

Now a QT VR of Nat's dressing room... that'd be worth it.

KV02 - Chancellor's Private Office

Postby Jedi Master Matt » June 8th 2004 8:27 pm

It's up.. and this is more like it. Something we haven't seen before.

KV02 - Darth Sidious, er the Chancellor's Private Office.

Not what I expected at all. Long and narrow ending in a three seat around a holographic display. Granted the set isn't lit like it will be in the film; but, I imagined this "darker" and more evil in nature. Oh, well. I can't wait till Palps asks Ani to join him in his parlor.

This is an awesome set! I love the fact that we might get to see Darth Sidious making one of his hologram calls from his end, rather than the receiving end. And what's with multiple chairs? Anakin, probably, but before that - Dooku? Dar Wac? Mas Amedda?

Very cool... I love this set and it's possible implications. :D

It's tough to tell for sure, but I think you're right. It looks like you can make out one of the chairs and the hologram thing in the middle in the video.

I hope so... wouldn't it be cool if Mace and his cronies walk in on Darth Sidious making an intergalactic call to one of his underlings? I think the Set Diary said something like "Four Jedi walk past with 'full authority'" - which tells me that they're not wanted there. We've also seen that picture, entitled "Dar Wac with the News"... so perhaps the Jedi barge in past Dar Wac (who tells them to stop or that the Chancellor's not in), through the Imperial Guards, if necessary, and find the doorway open to this antechamber. Wander wander wander in, ooh, look who it is! :)

The only problem with that is that Anakin is there too, and I'm not sure that he knows Palpatine is Sidious and what that means yet. Still, very interesting.

Well, in the "Video Village" webdoc at the end it shows Mace getting thrown into the wall of Palpatine's office (the red portion). So it seems pretty much like Mace goes into the main office with the other Jedi, Palpatine takes them out then attacks Mace eventually driving him backward through the hallway and into the antechamber. Which would coincide with what SLJ has said about being driven backward on the defensive over a certain amount of yards.

Of course it could be the other way around. Mace enters the office while Palps is in the antechamber and then he's driven back into the main office and killed.

Very cool set!

I think this is the way it will go... the antechamber is far too small for any fighting... they could hardly fit a camera in there let alone have room for stunts.

All the footage I've seen so far of Mace being attacked suggests it takes place in Palp's main office.

The fight covers both rooms as seen in the Video Village webdoc and BIB video but what room the fight begins/ends in, the main office or the antechamber is the question.

The hallway is also where Palpatine circles someone.

I don't think that's a window. It's most likely the display screen mentioned in this quote:

Here, the Chancellor is able to make holographic contact with his underlings in private, and a display screen allows him to track the progress of the Clone Wars.

I doubt he'd want a window to the outside there so that anyone driving/flying by can see him in full Darth Sidious garb. :)
