The Wolf Man (2010) @ Wikipedia

The Wolf Man is a 2010 horror film by Universal Studios that is a remake of their 1941 classic. This project will be directed by Joe Johnston whose films include Hidalgo, Jurassic Park III and October Sky.

EW.com has the first photos of Benicio Del Toro in full makeup.

There's also an article with famed fx and makeup artist Rick Baker: EW - First Look: Benicio Del Toro as the Wolfman

I'm pretty excitied about this project. I'm a huge fan of the Lon Chaney Jr. original. Benicio Del Toro is a great actor and an inspired choice. It would have been nice to have someone like David Fincher directing, but I think I can live with Johnston considering that October Sky was a good film.

The Wolf Man also stars Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt and Hugo Weaving. It's slated for release on February 13, 2009.

The official site is up. http://www.thewolfmanmovie.com/

Nothing much except a few pics and the synopsis. Also, there seems to be word going around that Joe Johnston is going to be directing the Captain America movie.

Looks decent. I like the way they seem to portray the period (at least from what we see in the clip) the way the people who made Bram Stokers Dracula a few years back tried to make thier movie look, except in this movie they don't horribly fuck it all up. I'm gonna' have to check this one out.

VERY nice. I've read that they started out with practical effects from Rick Baker but decided to go CGI and make him have a more feral run, like on all fours, and that was the reason for the delay. Looks really great!

I'm guessing Anthony Hopkins will pop up at the end as a werewolf and save his son from the evil villagers but good wolfman will have to fight daddy to save the girl.

Yeah, looks badass. I actually want to see this. Thank God it's not a Stephen Sommers film.

It's funny you say that because some scenes bring to mind Van Helsing. But the cast and crew on this are great (Joe Johnston, Rick Baker, Del Toro, Weaving).

The trailer looks really good. I was a bit worried when i first saw the CGI but i think it will work just fine in the end.

Is Anthony Hopkins playing the same character from Coppola's Dracula?

They shoulda had Hugh Jackman play Wolferine. Because like he's so versatile and all. :wookiee:

just watched a really crappy bootleg of this. heard it had horrible reviews so i wasn't about to pay to see it. They're unwarranted. It's a fantastic old-school horror movie. I mean, what the hell do people want out of a movie about a man turning into a werewolf?? This isn't Shakespeare baby.

It's gory, the affects are fantastic, the story is quick and interesting and the acting is far above what should be expected in such a campy premise. The soundtrack is moody and fits the time period perfectly.

I think i might actually go and pay to see this one proper! Definitely worth a dvd purchase. go see it.

It's a pretty average/mediocre popcorn movie. I couldn't bring myself to give a shit about the characters at all. I mean, come on. You've got Del Toro and Hopkins for Christ's sake. Use them. There was some ridiculous CGI animals (I guess it's cheaper than getting real ones and hiring a trainer) and a particularly horrible decapitation at the end. Supposedly, they delayed the movie to replace the CGI with makeup effects? Or maybe I remembered that wrong. Why do they think it's a good idea to use computer graphics to create fake looking animals...it seems to be THOSE kinds of decisions alone that really make or break your perception of a filmmaker. Not the overall resulting movie, but asinine things like an awful looking CGI bear drawing attention to its fakeness.

Also, there's this idea brought up several times in the movie that love can set him free from the curse or whatever. Then, they at least begin a romantic subplot between Wolfie and his brother's widow. She seeks help from a gypsy and she again brings up the "love" thing, which is never elaborated on. Needless to say, the conclusion to all this was absolutely stupid. She just shoots him in the end. Huh? I vote we go back to the Slaughtered Lamb.
