3/18 is supposed to be the release of a trailer of some kind. I can't wait, since Rodriguez is doing this one.

I’m hoping this is the predator movie I’ve been waiting for. With Rodriguez involved, it may well be. How many more chances can this franchise get? I guess the money’s been good enough for them to keep making new ones, but I didn’t really like 3 and 4.

The 3rd was no good for me because I didn’t dig the lame-o female lead. Also, the rich industrialist putting together a star studded team felt Jurassic park-like. The 4th movie had potential, set in a rural environment where bumpkins should own hounds that would tree a predator. And maybe that happened, but it was too dark for me to ever know.

Will be checking for that trailer in the next couple of days.

When the fx are finished, the character will decloak in front of Adrian Brody. He'll remove his helmet and will simply reveal his badassness to them. A bold new chapter in the Predator universe, Predators was shot on location under Rodriguez's creative auspices at the filmmaker's Austin-based Troublemaker Studios, and is directed by Nimrod Antal.

The film stars Adrien Brody as Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors who come to realize they've been brought together on an alien planet… as prey. With the exception of a disgraced physician, they are all cold-blooded killers – Mercenaries, Yakuza, Convicts, Death Squad Members – human "predators" that are now being systemically hunted and eliminated by a new breed of alien Predators.

In addition to Adrien Brody, the film stars Topher Grace, Alice Braga, and Laurence Fishburne. Co-starring are Walton Goggins, Danny Trejo, Oleg Taktarov and Mahershalalhashbaz Ali."

I'm a big fan of the original, a mixed fan of the sequel and a detractor of the garbage AvP movies.

This looks like a film that wants to get back to its roots and that's cool. I think this is one of the rare Arnold movies where the Predator was just as much the star of the story as Arnold was (as opposed to Terminator where it's impossible for a film in the series to be successful without him), otherwise there's no way any sequel could work.

The Predator race is interesting enough to sustain a good action/horror movie. As long as the performances are solid and the plot isn't fucking ridiculous, it'll be an entertaining popcorn flick.

GET TO THE CHOPPPPPAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!

For a planet that isn'y supposed to be Earth, it looks a lot like Earth :monocle: "Nimrod" isn't filling me with confidence here.

70% fresh on rotten tomatoes. But, looks like it’s not scheduled to open at the Plaza Cinema 3 - Henderson, Texas where I'm visiting with my Dad this weekend. Will have to wait till I get back to Dallas. I'm especially interested to see the new predator tribe (super predator) who boss the predators we've seen on screen for the past movies. From what I read, they are the ruling class in the predator society and the lower caste hunts and dies at their pleasure.

it's getting mixed to somewhat positive reviews everywhere. find a bunch here: AICN this is probably worth a download

[spoil]Fishburn's character is insane apparently and talks to himself. The japanese dude fights a Predator with a ninja sword and cuts the predator's head off! The OG Predator from the first movie shows up at the end and fights the other predator so Brody can escape on a Predator ship. [/spoil]

I liked it. It's a good way to spend a Friday night at the movies. Just the right mix of goofy fun, relatively appealing characters (or, at least, people you can stand to watch for over an hour), action, adventure, dimly illuminated spaceship interiors galore and sci-fi. It just wasn't bad.

The first 20 or so minutes were a bit weak. You got the standard monotonous "we're in the jungle and don't know what the fuck is going on here" and character introduction expository shit. It might fool you into thinking the movie will blow, especially when those ultra fakey typically poor CGI alien dogs attack. But hang in there.

how do they explain the OG Predator being alive at the end?? how did he survive his own first movie where he blew himself up with a wrist-atom bomb? did he just set it off and run like hell like Arnold did??

Definitely a whole lot better than the two lame AvP movies. Only thing that really pissed me off was Topher Grace, I just sat there watching he'd be the first one to meet the Predator, for I feared his lack of any remote ability to act - Spiderman. They could of easily casted anyone else but Topher, and they would of been more believable.

Just got back from it.

The best way to sum it up as that it's a good way to spend a Saturday evening. I got a bit of nostalgia, some cheap thrills, some decent action, and an 80s sci-fi fix.

It's really silly, sure, but so was the first one...except all 80s films were like that so we accept them for what they are. I could do without the exposition that references the first film, the in-your-face throwbacks to the original (sans music, which was great) that lessen the originality and quality of this screenplay, and the forced romantic relationship.

The CG dogs weren't as distracting as I feared them to be (they actually fit into the story rather nicely) but that stupid eye-in-the-sky device was unnecessary. Fishbourne wasn't as ridiculous as I heard he was, though that whole scene slowed the film down.

Also wasn't crazy about the samurai sword fight. Cool in the moment but it really cheapened the skill and power of the predator even though he killed his man. Those sort of scenes take me back to AvP territory.

Overall, there's an honest to balls realism of the first film (and even the second) that this film lacks. Without that, the fear we're supposed to feel for these people (however dangerous they are) is gone and it feels more like I'm watching "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and simply waiting for people to die in cool ways. That being said, it's probably a better movie than Predator 2 (I haven't seen it in probably 15 years) and definitely superior to the AvP movies.

And as for the "OG" Predator that Royce lets go - I see it as being from the same 'clan' as the first. Speaking of the first, I think it's time for everyone to admit that the reason Predator was good and ever could have worked as a franchise is solely because of one name: Schwarzenegger. The same goes for why Terminator can't and shouldn't be continued without his involvement in a major way.

[spoil]Why is it so hard to make a movie I like? I was disappointed, and feel like for this movie, I was in the position to be easily pleased.

It took too long for the movie to get going. They should have just started it with Danny Trejos' death and saved us the first 20mins that could have been delivered in the first few mins. The supporting characters were mostly boring and I didn't care if they lived or died. I thought Adrian Brody did a good job, but didn't have much to work with. Best actor was Fishburne by far. Been a much lamer movie without him. It went boring 20min intro, I became interested when Trejos character was used as bait. It got boring again for another 20mins ( guestimate, I didn't keep time) and then Fishburne. That got me back in it, leading up to the predators finally showing up on screen. But, the worst thing ever happened. It got dark on the hunting preserve and I could not see crap. I felt cheated. The fighting scenes amongst predators was mostly too close up, and too fast action. I couldn't see any details of the fighting to know who did what. The jungle was boring. It's more dangerous behind my grandma's house than that place.

Another big disappointment for me was the lack of any cool predator gear. They seem to now prefer the wrist blades and I think they are boring. Where is the Frisbee, portable net (there was a net, but it was old fashion man jungle type net) and the short stick that extends into a 6ft killing shaft? Also, not enough predator vision. But plenty of audio files. The predators only reached for their wrist computer towards the tail end of the movie. The hunting dogs, while the cgi looked ok, they were lame and not used in the best way. Also, the lone alien that was killed I guess by Fishburne? He got the briefest of time, but maybe his perspective would have been more interesting than a glancing death shot. The hawk recon device the predators used was decent (because it had predator vision)

One of the best surprises was seeing the og predator tied to that arch thing. The predator camp it was held in was lame. I think too crowded. That story line ended up wasted because it didn't seem believable that while the predator may understand the most likely thing Royce is asking is for a way off the planet. Why would he power up the ship and give it to him? I know, in exchange for his release. The other predators left him tied up with a remote control to the ship on his wrist? Was that part of the challenge? What if he could remote control the ship to his advantage while tied to the arch? Maybe that's too picky, but I expected a movie I'd read had been written and re-written over however many years would have a tighter story.

Just goes to show how good the first one was. This one had no chemistry.[/spoil]
