Transformers Prime

Transformers: Prime – Show-runners Jeff Kline (“Ghostbusters,” “Dragon Tales”), Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (“Transformers”, “Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen”, “Star Trek”) continue the saga as “Optimus Prime” and the “Autobots” battle the evil “Decepticons” led by “Megatron”. This fall, viewers will experience the world of “Transformers” like never before.

This is the next Transformers cartoon TV series slated to debut on the new Hasbro/Discovery joint network "The Hub" on 10/10/10. Details are slim thus far but what is confirmed is that it will be CG animated with movie writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci as show runners. The pic of Bumblebee is the only imagery released so far. As you can see it's kind of a simplified rendition of movie BB. Whether or not this series will have any connection to the movieverse remains to be seen.

According to ADAge, Peter Cullen will be voicing Optimus Prime for the new series.

This new Hasbro network will also be airing a new G.I.Joe series (titled "Renegades") and also be showing classic cartoons from their brands like the original TF series (Generation 1).

Looks interesting. I already like the style more than the last animated Transformers show. If Clone Wars can do it, we can do it!

A couple more tidbits from Robert Orci answering questions on the donmurphy boards: Frank Welker will also be in the series (no word yet on which character) and the Transformers: Prime version of Starscream will retain his G1 Persona.
Robert Orci: "Really excited to see what you guys think about it. Seeing Cullen and Welker together in the recording studio was mind blowing."

From the images it's interesting that BumbleBee has the Bay Film's likeness.
This all-new graphic novel adventure leads directly into the all new Transformers: Prime animated series! In this epic first adventure, battles across Cybertron have left Bumblebee and his fellow Autobots in need of a new leader. But is there anyone who can step forward against the threat of Megatron and the evil Decepticons?

ABOVE: From the Transformer: Prime tie-in comicbook comes this synopsis which suggests that BumbleBee is the leader of the Autobots (source TransformerLive):

Show Details from Botcon Convention 2010 (sources: TFW2005, TFormers.com & Seibertron.com)

• Full CG show, lots of action but also very character driven.
Produced by "Cakemix" studios.

• Core cast features Optimus, Bumblebee, Bulkhead, Ratchet, Cliffjumper & Arcee for the Autobots.
Megatron, Soundwave, Starscream for the Decepticons. More characters will be featured however.

• Frank Welker will voice Megatron.
(Will be doing a slightly different voice though, "softer evil side".)

• Megatron turns into a cybertronian jet, "thinks earth modes are beneath him".
Robot design similar to WFC (War for Cybertron) form. Has the buckethead look of G1. Purple colored canon on right arm.

• Soundwave is not a boombox.

• Starscream is still a jet but alien looking, stylized but true to classic form.
(Described as a cross between Armada and Movie looks)

• Optimus turns into long nose semi like movie but has classic colors, no flames.
Robot form cross between movie and WFC.

• Bumblebee a camero type car.

• Cliffjumper will have unique design, not just a BB repaint.

• Arcee is a single robot not three seperate ones like in the movie. Is a motorcycle.

• Autobots are on Earth in case the Decepticons return.
Cybertron is essentially dead. Autobots trying to get back home or somewhere else.

• Humans involved but focus is on the robots.

• Show is called "Prime" because it is exploring what is means to be a Prime, leader, bearer of the Matrix, ect.

• Show is meant to stand on its own but will reference other continuities. 350 page bible of TF lore.

• 26 Episodes Per Season. Goal is for 65+. Show may not air with Hub network debut on 10/10/10.

• Sue Blu is voice director.

• CGI models will feature battle damage when necessary.

Apparently this series is set within the "War for Cybertron" (the new PS3/Xbox 360 videogame) continuity yet is using very movie inspired designs. :brow: The WIP animation looks promising though.

Transformers Prime Teaser that Thundercracker linked to. From the video - as much as I love the New Clone Wars it looks like Prime will surpass it.

The first two episodes aired tonight on The Hub -- and they hinted that they might be airing them again before the official Monday premiere. Not bad for the opening two installments (good enough that I'm looking forward to the rest of the 5-part premiere. Check your listings -- you might be able to catch these.

Any words on the GI JOE downloads? I appreciate the Transformer Prime downloads very much. Love this 3d style, though a bit sharp on the edges. Cliff Jumper was the only transformer who looked like his original self, which was very cool.

Renegades has been split into it's own thread with downloads by the time you read this.

After starting out slow and depressing, the show picked from the positive feel where Transfomers The Movie 2007 left off. The animation itself was slightly underwhelming, although that could be due to the low-quality {CP} rip and yes way too much sharp edges employed. The dialog was well written and even the Autobot slang: 'Cons, Fleshies, and "Scrap" was cool.

While it's quite possible that this series may steal attention away from the New Clone Wars, it's also possible that it may do the same with the next Transformers movie.

Overall I liked what I saw from both new shows. My biggest gripe with both is still the designs. Gonna take some getting used to.

I didn't think the CGI was anything spectacular and a lot of the backgrounds were a bit sparse but I'm sure it will improve as the season progresses and they start building up their model assets.

My favorite characters so far are Ratchet, Arcee and Starscream, they definitely stood out. The new Soundwave also seems interesting, I like the faceless visor.
