Title: Mortician
I think they're all pretty. Nice composition, I suppose. They don't wreak of the iconography/style of posters-past. Which I kind of appreciate, but miss, all at the same time.

Personally, if this is the style of poster they intend for each episode, I hope they capitalize on the swan-dive/chase scene for the AOTC poster in some fashion when the time comes. I could imagine something like poster#2 above, but instead of the noobian (ehh?), have Kenobi falling through traffic toward the speeder. They should pay me for this shit.

Still, thanks for posting :heavymetal:

Saw the 3D trailer when I saw Tintin.

Don't know if this is the final 3D, although most of the trailers shown 3D looked solid, but the effect was non-existent except for a few depth effects. If the final product is anything like what I saw here, it's a complete waste to check this out (if it wasn't already).

I noticed this as well. I thought it was just my theater but some random folks at TFN had the same issue.

It wasn't even like a bad conversion, it was almost COMPLETELY absent. The fact that it was kind of there leads me to believe it's just an abysmal conversion and a pathetic cash grab.

Has there been any press screenings of this anywhere in the world? Some European magazine is reporting that they saw it and hated the 3D. It just makes no sense when no other outlet is reporting any advance screenings, nor would there be a reason to have one in this case.

There was a press screening at Lucasfilm a few days ago. Impressions seem to be blasé.

A few notes from the John Knoll interview with Star Wars Insider:

• The conversion took 10 months to complete
• 98% of the film was located and restored (Blu-ray) at the time of the conversion
• Knoll has been critical of 3D conversions in the past
• The beginning of the film plus half dozen scenes have a stronger 3D effect than the rest of the film
• They focused on depth rather than gimmicky things that pop out of the screen

I don't like 3D, but hey, it's Star Wars on the big screen. I'll be taking my son next weekend.

I'm of the same mind.

My girls weren't around when this came out on the big screen, and they're old enough to find jar jar tasteful. I'm in.

HAH! 10 months, well, that clinches it then; if they've been into the project for a couple of years already, and it seems like a fair chunk of those 10 months was spent on R&D, then they're working on the rest of the films already. Glad to know regardless of how badly TPM does that sometime we will get to the good stuff. Otherwise they'll have spent the money with no return, which isn't exactly LFLs M.O..

Yeah, that's the plan - I'm sure my three year old will be delighted, and the six year old will like the action. Me, I'll have a nap in the middle, so everybody wins!

After they rerelease the Blu-ray set without bonus features (Holiday 2013), they will need to have them all done for the 3D-BD set after that!

THIS JUST IN!!!!! AICN apparently has a source at the ranch who stated that:
"just as the special editions of the films in large part funded The Phantom Menace, the plan at Lucasfilm right now is to take the potential profits from the 3D release of TPM and pay for a new 4k scan of the films to replace the aging 1080 scans currently in use."

Nah, just fucking with you. You're probably right, Toeka, same shit BDs for the next few stripped down releases, the 3D discs based on the shit BDs in 2018 once RotJ has finished its run. Unless they try and milk each film Chirstmas of each year as individual 3D BDs.

Aparently the superbowl ad for TPM pretty much said all 6 films are coming - anyone actually watch football to confirm?

There was footage from all six films in the Super Bowl ad, but there were no hints other than the quick clips than any movie other than TPM was coming to the 3D format.

In the SW Insider, John Knoll said TPM only needed about 10 months' work for an acceptable 3D conversion, which makes me think that the one-per-year schedule may be possible afterall.
