This just dropped.

[flash width=560 height=315]http:////www.youtube.com/v/vIu85WQTPRc?hl=en_US&version=3[/flash]

Best show of this reboot we've seen thus far.

Love the Ligeti music. And Cranston sounds utterly traumatized.

Breaking Gojira! I'm liking what's been shown so far, here's hoping it doesn't disappoint.

Rumors have it that there is not a single shot of godzilla in that entire trailer.

If that's true.....fscking eh, take my money now!

I haven't been keeping close tabs on this but after reading the various analysis/reactions of the trailer I was surprised to learn that there might be [spoil]other classic Toho monsters in this as well[/spoil] Bring it on!

Worth checking out?

Actually enjoyed the '98 film when I was in 6th grade. Have no history with Godzilla before or since (not quite true, recorded and watched Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster when I was a young'un and I didn't really take to the Zillo beast episodes in TCW).

The trailers look epic enough but I want something fresh and with a strong authorial stamp to it. Does the director do things substantially different than the plenty of other nameless guns for hire would? Anything special and outstanding? Anything daring and experimental? Maybe I'm laying out too much of a high-brow criteria but I'm sick and tired of middle-of-the-road experiences at the cinema. I want my mind blown, goddamnit!

You've been getting awful excited about Tranformers 4, so through that lens this movie will make you happy.

I thought it was good and fun. The human story was weak and Aaron Taylor Johnson is not leading man material. I felt cheated that Bryan Cranston was only a minor player when the marketing made him out to be the lead.

There are tons of call ours to Jurassic park and jaws that people from this forum will no doubt enjoy.

That said, Edwards is a far cry from Spielberg. I give it a solid 3.5/5 and recommend it.

I think it's a great homage to the early godzilla films.

The format is much like them. There's a human story, but it's filler until the monsters start up.

The monsters are awesome. The stuff Godzilla does is awesome.

Godzilla is a force of nature, and you'll never doubt it again, after this movie.

I'd recommend seeing it.

Back and disappointed.

Some thoughts on the experience:

-Thought it was off to a good start with creative opening credits (fast newsreel montage and censored text)
-Mostly all down hill from after Kick-Ass is all alone
-Thought about walking out midway through
-Not fun, not enough levity
-Not enough Bryan Cranston
-Vanilla characters all around
-Uninspired sequences and use of visual effects (filmmakers like Spielberg and Jackson come to mind as almost polar opposites)
-Someone really liked the design of the Cloverfield monster
-Throwdown at the end was kinda memorable, particularly Godzilla's "final smash" move
-Flare skydiving sequence was the best part for me but most of that was already in one of the trailers
-And yeah, fat Godzilla
-I'll get a lot of flak for this, but I prefer Emmerich's '98 film - more fun, more interesting characters, more imaginative sequences and far better Godzilla design
-A lot of this version felt like the last act of Man of Steel, endless and wanton citywide destruction
-Too dreary for a concept as campy as Godzilla

An example of how the skydiving sequence could have been significantly improved:

Show more of the skydivers land around the dueling monsters. Some lengthy and intricately choreographed shots of the marines landing past such treacherous conditions would've fit perfectly. And some marines make it safely after narrowly avoiding the fallout of the battle while others meet their doom by an errant tail or meat hook-looking thing. That part could have been easily infinitely better in the right hands.

And as for, "You like Bay so you like explosionz!"? Eh... no. :|

Just heard the news about the spin-off.

No. Someone stop Gareth Edwards.

I finally saw this last week, and I have to say that I really, really liked it. At last a Godzilla movie that takes itself seriously and doesn't turn into a spoof of itself.
I liked the fact that all of the characters, major and supporting, did things that those characters would realistically do. As opposed to going all Nicholas Cage and suddenly performing super-human stunts they were never trained for.

I saw it at long last. Wow, it really felt flat to me. I don't think I can remember any of the character's names. The story was acceptable, it gave itself enough respect to be taken seriously but also didn't take any chances either. Not enough tension to sustain the loooooooooong build up to a very quick resolution.

The score was good. And it had some really great sound design. I am a bit let down by the marketing and definitely not quite excited about the prospects of Gareth Edwards directing Star Wars.

I felt the same way. It had its moments and there were parts that really gave me a Jurassic Park vibe, but the human story was completely useless.

That sequence where Ken Watanabe investigates the spawn felt like it was shot by Spielberg!
