It's good to see some shiny surface shaders. The all-matte look of the Clone Wars grew tiring for me.

The long neck of the Star Destroyer and the smushed wings of the TIE look fucking stupid though.

Yeah that's what it reminds me of too. It was always my least favorite action figure ship because it looked so off!

For those interested, if you ever come across something, like this, that you think will be taken down quickly, or may want to be shared, please use the site below to download the mp4 so it can be re-upped.

http://keepvid.com/

If Keepvid won't rip it, then deturl will:

http://www.deturl.com/

Both of these have come in handy before, and will no doubt be useful in the future.

Stay frosty, my friends.

There is a good chance the video is still cached!.... there are articles on the net about how-to

maybe this will help http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/video_cache_view.html .... I've had mixed results with this in the past...

I want to see this! :D

They're both based on McQuarrie art. Plus the TIE is also based on the Kenner toy, which might have used Ralph's version as a model, too. :chewbacca:
I think Pablo said the TIE is meant to be an older model than the ones in the movies, though.

Agreed. The lightsabers look better too, more like the OT style. It would be nice if they have the pulsating/flickering effect like in the films as well instead of the static glow in CW.

Look at my April 28th post above.

Joel Aron, my VFX lead, has done an amazing job at matching the original effects. Something I’ll talk about – I don’t know if I’ve told anyone this, so this might be somewhat exclusive: We had the lightsaber rendered – the effect you’ll see in this show, Joel Aron and I very consciously decided to make it like what you saw in the ’70s. And they changed it in updated editions. The blade is a lot steadier in the re-releases and in the prequels. In fact, the blades in the prequels actually are wide and then they taper to a very specific sword point. The lightsabers that we’re putting in Star Wars Rebels are very much the long thin slender blade that is just more like a fencing rapier. Much more like that.

And they oscillate. They actually quiver. Joel found the original guy that did the original effect, rotoed it and everything, because it was on a rod that spun. If you look at really old, original footage of Luke’s lightsaber when he turns it on, it kind of almost goes like that [waves hand] and flickers. That really motivates the humming sound of the lightsaber and how it fluctuates when it moves. Joel’s recreated that really well.

Something else, we put in the old kind of yellow-green flash contacts when the sabers hit in the old movies that weren’t as present in the new ones. We’ve gone very retro with our effects package for Rebels. I think old fans will like that, new fans won’t even know the difference. But yes, it’s always a big consideration. For a lot of kids, Rebels will be their introduction [to Star Wars]. It’s exciting, and it’s a huge responsibility, because we want to set things up well for everything that’s going to come.

And yet, after countless editions and being the leaders in visual FX , Luke's Saber still looks like crap on board the Falcon.

I know. I just don't get that. It would be so easy to fix. I don't even care about the goddamn colors, just smooth out those jump cuts and it would be fine.

Got to meet Taylor Gray (Ezra) at SW Weekends today. He couldn't have been nicer to my wife and I. Chatted with us for 3-4 minutes.

He did tell me that characters from the OT and TCW would be appearing in Rebels. He says the quality of animation picks up right where TCW left off, which to me, was superb. They're still working on season 1 episodes right now. He flies back Wednesday for more work.

He's a very bright, engaging kid (born in 93). I hope he finds great success with the series.

Nice, thanks for the info!

So far, we've had Lando confirmed, and there's grafitti of Embo and Cad Bane. Wonder who else? Besides Ahsoka, ofc.

Saw some exclusive Rebels footage at Star Wars Weekends today.

The clip that was shown was Ezra witnessing the Ghost and a TIE Fighter in pursuit over a planet that resembled Dantooine from the Cllone Wars micro series.

The TIE crash lands on the planet and Ezra investigates the crash. At first he appears to want to help the pilot, but ends up stealing little bits of technology from the crashed ship, and says he wants to sell them on the open market. Ezra then fires that laser slingshot at the window of the ship. The slingshot appears to work sort of like a droid popper or an ion weapon in that it disables electronics. Ezra then steals the pilot's helmet and runs away.

Ezra is shown as a street-wise kid who hustles and steals things. This video clip served as a good introduction to his character.

A couple of other clips were shown, featuring Dave Filoni. He said all of the main rebel characters in Rebels were individually wronged by the Empire in some way. A female Mandalorian was also featured as one of the main characters.

No references to storm troopers or the Inquisitor. All the focus at this point appears to be on the group of heroes/rebels.
The animation quality in the clips was outstanding.
