VII Trailer III • Pre-Release Analysis

Postby CoGro » September 14th 2015 2:55 pm

I'm guessing we'll get it in about a month, around the time some of these films release:

- Bridge of Spies
- Pan
- Steve Jobs

We're getting close!

New trailer better come with more BB-8 in action (just got the amazing Sphero droid and I'm all about it)!

Even after that somewhat good teaser, Im still not 100% sold on this. Im skeptical if the cast can pull it off. The new one. I dunno, it seems everytime i get hyped for a movie Im being let down. Phantom Menace, Prometheus (not SW but as an Alien fan I was hyped) etc etc.

I recently watched some of JJ's work again and while its mostly good, its never great and at times even terrible (into darkness). But ok, I realize that I must simply keep my expectations in check and just enjoy the movie for what it is. I just hope that Fisher wont come across as you know, the cranky ol' lady she is in real life. :)

I still can’t believe that with only 3 months to go, we still don’t have a full trailer or official plot/synopsis for the movie.

It reminds me of the length and effort of secrecy that went with Jurassic Park when that was 1st released.

The projectionlist.com speculation list when trailers will be released and which films will be attached:

"ONLY AN INDICATION AS TO WHEN CERTAIN TRAILERS WILL/MIGHT BE RELEASED. NOT AN OFFICIAL OR COMPLETE SCHEDULE. PROJECTED = EDUCATED GUESS."

I'm seeing Everest today but highly doubt any TFA trailer will be attached.

Hoping it comes with The Martian I need to see more footage.

I'm now guessing they will premiere it with Rebels on October 14.

Wouldn't be a bad idea.

I've been enjoying the mystery box so far. This might change any day now, but this close to release during the prequel era we had full scripts, press photos, soundtrack titles, you name it.

I love how the books and OST are arriving with the movie. Another trailer won't hurt but it's been refreshing to be spoiler-free.

Totally agree!
It harkens back to the old days of the classic trilogy where there was very little to go off...just the odd release of a photo here & there....made the movie so much better as you didn’t know what was coming.

I remember after the 1st Phantom Menace trailer was out, everyone seemed to over-analyse it & the expectation for the movie was immense...Rick McCallum didn’t help much by way, way over-hyping it...but I really like the idea that they haven’t let too much out on this...personally I think the trailer will be epic, whilst still not showing too much...JJ is a master at that & he knows how to bait a line...

To turn a phrase on its head…” I have a GOOD feeling about this!”

I agree. It's like I'm 13 again waiting for ESB, reading 'Starlog' for hint and images, and getting more excited as the release date approaches.

Someone on twitter is claiming ESPN just posted these emoji for use communicating in their Fantasy Football iOS app. I can't seem to find the post in ESPN's RSS feed history or in the app itself to confirm, but here it is for what it's worth.

Disney owns far more than ESPN its a strange place to launch the trailer.

well actually i guess i see it. Why market to people that are already definitely going to see it. Just surprised by football. Now I gotta rethink betting on the game or it will take me out of the trailer mood.

Damnit now I gotta sit through watching two horseshit teams (Giants, Eagles) in order to watch the trailer. Damn you all to hell, ESPN and NFL!!!!

If I could defend the Bird's record, I would be angry about the horseshit reference. Look at it this way, royalguard96: it's essentially a playoff game. If the Eagles lose, their season is probably over.

MNF is usually number one or two in the weekly cable ratings. It may be Disney's highest rated TV show.

Hey I'm a Lions fan, I know horseshit football when I see it LOL

You're 100 percent right about the structure of having this on ESPN/MNF. If the trailer is looking for maximum exposure, that's the date to do it. Two big markets will be tuned into the game. Sound marketing strategy.

The tickets presale date of October 19 has been reported via various theater worldwide press releases for over a month. Any date promoted by various bloggers before or after was tomfoolishness.

It was common sense that a trailer would be released on that date: Ticket presales date + ABCDisneyESPNLucasfilm outlet = Trailer date, time, place shown.

Teaser for the trailer finale:

Pretty sure it's supposed to premiere at halftime of the Giants/Eagles game, which is just now nearing the end of the first quarter. It'll be a bit.

Here's your "Two minute, give or take a few timeouts" warning. Almost showtime on ESPN, assuming they're running the trailer at or near the beginning of halftime.
